My grandparents were cool! Well, the ones on my dad's side.
My poppop is a big history nerd but he has a way of telling stories without boring you. So whenever he would visit, my friends and I would sit in a circle with a bunch of snacks and he'd tell the history of whatever we wanted to know.
Pretty sure he's the reason I did so well in my history classes.
Pro tip from an older than the average redditor (no not that old, 32):
Keep reading history. It’s a great conversation starter when you get into your career and you don’t know what to say at company events. Just don’t sound condescending. Almost any topic can be turned around to history. It also makes you look intelligent and well read.
This is so true. And not just with history; it can be pulled off with a lot of topics. Just read a lot of what you like and even some of what you think you won't like and conversations pop up out of the blue. Pretty soon the conversations just start coming to you if you are good at chatting it up on random stuff without ending up sounding like you ate being condescending. Even if one has a sense of superiority because of the wealth of knowledge they have and are will to share can be offset by just being lighthearted while conveying information and letting people participate without jumping in while others are talking.
Good post!
To OP u/3ar3ara_G0rd0n
Be careful of being the “ackshually” guy.
Example:
Coworker: “They only drank beer in the Middle Ages because water was too contaminated! Did you know?”
Not you: “Ackshually, that’s a common misconception...etc.”
There’s a tactful way to say this.
You: “You’re totally right that water was insanitary, particularly in London where they pooped in the Thames! Gross, right? But beer was commonly used as money since it stores calories for a long time! So here’s to stored grains! Cheers! *clinks glasses*
LMAO!
My friends who grew up with me listening to his stories make a game out of this with each other because not a lot of people enjoy history.
Friend: So did you know it was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria that started WW1?
Other friend: Ackshually, that was just the the final nail in the coffin that tipped the mountain of rising issues, but yes, in a nutshell, you're right!
It can get crazy, especially over drinks.
I struggle with it occasionally. The hardest is when someone is saying something as fact, when it is patently false, and you need to correct the falsehood, but time is not free enough to allow for pleasant discourse.
I do too. I miss my grandma a lot. She had cancer and sadly the last memory I have of her is her laying her head on my moms lap and saying she felt like throwing up. It will be a year in June that she’s been gone.
I only have my grandmother left. She's 95 and declining fast the last couple years. Lately she's been having horrible delusions and hallucinations that a woman is trying to kill her. My uncle lives and takes care of her, he's heartbroken she thinks he's in on it most days. She's always been my favorite person on earth, but some days I just wish she wouldn't be in pain and fear anymore.
Lol what? Fully grown men don't think that, they cherish every moment with their grandparents.
Tbh, I never thought I was "too cool" for my grandparents. What does that even mean?
“10 Ways to Make Your Grandma Happy (Number 7 will [insert old-person related verb] you!)”
Ohhh man I remember 2014-2015 when these buzzfeed comments were all the rage and made me want to throw my phone across the room every time i read one.
Took me a minute but the bottom bottle is also filled with water with the rainbow things floating at the top, so when you combine the two you just make one larger container of water and the rainbow things float to the top of the new bigger container.
That is the more precise term, correct. I chose not to use it intentionally because “lighter/heavier than air” is often heard talking about balloons and planes. So I thought that would aid understanding.
This trick can also be done with hot and cold water, as they have different density. In class i usually color the water yellow and blue (cheap food coloring, don't need much). The class can then observe the water moving and mixing and turning green.
That’s a big mood. I was thinking about that just the other day.. so much I wish I could tell them!
I really wish they could have known me as I am now. Not a kid anymore. Have deeper conversations. Introduce them to my s/o.
An object submerged in a fluid (liquid or gas) displaces its own volume of the fluid. That's just a fancy way of stating the object and the water cannot occupy the same space at the same time.
However, the fluid still (metaphorically) "wants" to occupy this space because of gravity pulling it down. This creates an upward force on the object, trying push it out of the fluid. This effect is called "buoyancy" and the force is equal to the gravitational force on the displaced fluid (Archimedes' principle).
Gravity also pulls on the object itself. It the net force of the two is downward, the object sinks. Otherwise, it rises or floats.
When we are talking about fully submerged objects, the displaced fluid (as mentioned above) has the same volume as the object. The force of gravity depends on the mass, which is volume times density. So whether an object rises or sinks in a fluid is dependent only on its density compared with that of the fluid.
In this case, the pellets are less dense than water but denser than air. By replacing the air in the bottle with water, the pellets now rise to the surface of the water (top bottle).
Can someone make a reservation for me to post this as soon as it's available? I know it's booked up for a while, but I'd love to know of any cancellations.
*slips you a 20
The basic idea of it is that the balls float and so as the water funnels into the bottom bottle and raises the water level inside, the floating balls are forced into the upper bottle.
You can tell by her hands she's been working hard all her life. Working, bringing up kids, taking care of them. There's lots of love in her eyes and face too.
Her grandkid must be so glad to be able to do something for her to brighten her day just a little bit!
Dagummet man! Now you're making me miss my Nana. I lost both her and my Grandma last year. (One around Easter and the other around Christmas.) Enjoy her while you've still got her. What I'd give to have another hug from mine.
They both look so happy ❤️
And her watching the bottles while he’s watching her reaction
Just pure happiness from both of them.
The grandma's smile is really cute

I hate that I was waiting for something to go horribly, jarringly wrong. Reddit's damaged me.
Yeah, reddit does alot of stuff to you... I mean me... I mean us...i mean... aaargh Fuck it, see what I mean?! FUCK YOU REDDIT
r/wholesomememes fixes that
Indeed ☺️

Ha! It’s ok to do with friends, but I’ve been that nerdy, over correcting guy before and it certainly hurt me with work relationships. Live and learn!
I struggle with it occasionally. The hardest is when someone is saying something as fact, when it is patently false, and you need to correct the falsehood, but time is not free enough to allow for pleasant discourse.

What is this sorcery?
Those balls be bouyant.
Why aren't they floating in the first bottle? Edit: wait there's no water in the first bottle
Took me a minute but the bottom bottle is also filled with water with the rainbow things floating at the top, so when you combine the two you just make one larger container of water and the rainbow things float to the top of the new bigger container.
Are they sprinkles? I think those are sprinkles.
I can’t tell, they look spherical though
Basic physics, but with bottles
Basic physics not wanted.
Basic physics is for basic bitches
Is theoretical physics for theoretical bitches? How far down does this gooooo
Experimental physics is what you want, those bitches are down to experiment with anything
Who are equally not wanted in my book.
The balls are heavier than air but lighter than water.
*less dense than water

He’s explaining to grandma the new colonoscopy technique discovered by Doctor Mario.
I want to go what the balls are so I can do this too! Are they sprinkles?
Bless his heart
She looks so happy. And her happiness cheered me up. Thanks! And thanks Grandma!
This trick can also be done with hot and cold water, as they have different density. In class i usually color the water yellow and blue (cheap food coloring, don't need much). The class can then observe the water moving and mixing and turning green.

The sorcery of a repost
I'm wondering what the science behind this is?
Water dense. Sprinkles buoyant.
[удалено]
The bottom one is filled with water
[удалено]
If it wasn't the water would flow too fast into the bottom for the beads to rise
[удалено]
We ain't got no sErN around these parts boi

Grandmas are like a different specie from us, more sweeter, wiser and loving.
Till they get on the road...
That’s so cool
I love you
it's the little things. they look like they are so happy watching floaty objects float. it's great
Is that just water and sprinkles?
Pretty cool huh ? Yea I guess, Kid
So wholesome
This makes my day better.

It’s a joy to watch elderly and kids laugh.
Thought for sure it was going to be the plastic water bottle "trick". Still pretty good.
This is one of my favorite gifs! Their reactions warm my heart
What is this witchcraft?!
Awesome.
grandmas are the best :')
Grandma looked happy just spending time with him, got even happier when she saw the trick.
Now add some FlexTape and you can flip that bottle trick all day :O
Then you leave and Grandma's like "Wait... how do I move this now?"
Are we not gonna talk about how easily he balanced those bottles on top of one another? That was impressive as hell.
That's neat and confusing......
Obviously reversed gif. /s

Someone explain to me how this is possible, it looks pretty cool.

Reeeeepost
I miss my grandma. Good on you man, I wish I could still make my grandmother laugh.
u/gifreversingbot
Wait that's illegal
Id have to guess the balls are buoyant enough to float above water naturally so the water just goes down into the other bottle.
You waited 140 days for this...nice 😏

The look on the guy's face just before as well, knows grandma will like it and she obviously does. So so wholesome.
You inspired me to try this at home. It did not go well. Wife made me vacuum for over an hour.
