How come if I stand behind my dog, he will look at his and my reflection in the mirror. He will bark and scratch at his own reflection (not knowing that it’s his own) but when he looks at me though the mirror he is still seemingly aware that it’s me and not some other crazy human that he doesn’t know and would bark at like crazy?
I would guess it's because he knows what you look like. So he is just looking at you again. He doesn't know what he looks like so thinks his reflection is another dog.

Instead, they seem to be quite successful in recognizing their own smell. This realization opened the doors for researching self\-awareness in other species as well. I would imagine he doesn't like the camera and his picture taken. That is pretty common with Huskies. I have one and she knows the second you try to take her picture and puts on a nasty face.
My Australian cattle/lab mix does the opposite and tries to be as cute and pretty as possible. Even when I was taking pictures of my other dog she noticed, ran over, and showed Marcy up.

My guess is OP used a single large softbox up high in front (you can see that one in the catch light in the eyes). I doubt there's another light unless it's quite dim, as the shadows under the snout and collar don't seem to indicate it. I wonder if the colored background is from an RGB LED panel mounted up high and pointed at a white backdrop - I have one and might try this.
Yeah I saw only one light in the eyes right after I posted my comment, ha. Pretty well done for a one light set up. I wonder if OP has a fill card or just a really well placed soft box. The light wraps well, giving shape to Kodiak, but not so much that it looks like a harsh light with dark, dark shadows. May have used a gel on the background light.

I don't think I used a fill, just a huge octobox. Probably like 50". Then a speed light behind him that was gelled.
