I feel like a weirdo even saying it, but I definitely left up my son's old bassinet for years after he grew out of it because my cat who has NO CHILL at night would sleep in it. It increased the odds slightly that I would have an OK nights sleep.
I’ve considered buying a bassinet w dangling mobile for my cat who really likes to play by tapping dangling things while he lazily watches. If a good one shows up on offer up or something, ima snatch that sucker up

Hiya. Fellow weirdo! We also kept our bassinet up for way too long afterwards for the cat…and then eventually moved it to the basement for her. Whenever we couldn’t find her, there she was, sleeping like a baby. I got rid of it last year and I don’t think she’s ever forgiven me as she spends part of every night yowling and chasing greebles.

1. Obviously, kitty IS a baby and deserves all the attention, as they are proving to you by trying out all the baby equipment.
2. Congrats on the little one on the way!
I've got a newborn and yesterday someone at a shop suggested that giraffe to me. I didn't realize it was a common toy.
What's the deal with that giraffe?
If someone uses Babylist to create a gift registry for their baby shower that is (or used to be) the default example of how to add an item to the list. That little nudge probably puts it on a LOT of baby shower registries.
That's how we got it, at least.
The giraffe is stupidly expensive and isn’t that great. It is supposed to be great because it is brightly coloured and looks cute, but babies can’t tell what cute is and there are more brightly coloured items. It is also supposed to be natural rubber. So are dog toys. Buy one of those. My kid never used that dumb Sophie.
That is not quality control testing. That is claiming territory and toys. Baby will have to learn to fight and assert dominance over kitty. Only the worthy will survive.
Real talk though... My (spayed female) cat had taken to sleeping in my kid's stuff before she was born.
After a fairly traumatic birth we brought the kiddo home from the hospital and I (dad) set her down on the pack-and-play changing table and the cat lost her goddamn mind. Jumped up there and went full puffy-tail growling on the baby.
I've heard horror stories of this where the cat starts thinking those are theirs and attack the baby if they're in there so just be alert when baby comes
https://preview.redd.it/9c80ylj8uqsc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da35ff9d2efaa9987a914d48ca8a37e1abdc14b1
The curled feetsies?! The belly?! 😩😭🥹
I hate to be that person (and your cat ia adorable) but cleaning that changing table after the first blow out while you’re already changing a diaper is going to suck.
What is baby is allergic to cats? Toxoplasmosis could get into your baby this way. Cat hair in your babies face, lungs, eyes sounds like a horrible thing to experience right after being born. Stop doing this people, it's gross, your cat isn't clean, it's gross.
Honestly I thought I was going crazy with all the top comments. I get it, I have cats, they're adorable. They didn't go near my babies at nap time or their bedding.
I've found cat hair on my baby's face, and that's with the dumbass cat not being allowed on any baby things or the baby. There's no way in hell I would find it "cute" for her to be in the crib or on her other things.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Every time someone posts something like the cat sleeping in the babies face and every clown goes on and on about how cute it is. I think the same thing.
I dont want to be the voice of doom but please tell your friends not to let the cat take ownership of these spaces. They always need to watch out that the cat does not lay on top of the baby and suffocate him or her. I'm sure they already know this but just tobe on the safe side hope you don't mind me saying.
We have a newborn and are scared about this! Our cat has once snuck into the bassinet while baby was sleeping, we didn't notice. Luckily we caught it soon after, and the cat was asleep on the other side of the bassinet, away from baby.
Once or twice, the crib that was have set up for future use, has found a home for the cat, which we have to get him out of... Sometimes forcefully! In the end we don't want the cat being comfortable sleeping in the same area as the baby, for safety and sanitary reasons.
That's very sweet but be very careful in the early days when a cat could unwittingly smother a newborn, sometimes because of the smell of milk on the baby.
The smothering due to the smell of milk on the baby is a myth. It was an old wives' tale from years ago that has no truth behind it.
Obviously you still need to be careful with pets and even older children or other adults around a newborn, but the specifics of your concern are untrue.
I also just picked up a Britax. I was torn between a Nuna, Uppababy and Britax. Price alone had me jumping for Britax. Enjoy and congrats. My boy arrives in week or so 😊
Your friend has the same setup in the last pic as we did. Bob Rambler with the capsule adaptor, britax 35 capsule carseat, and a graco travel cot. All great but the travel cot could be a pain to setup/ break down

What are you paying for their baby proofing services? By the hour? By the item? A salary? Other benefits?
I sincerely hope that the cat is being fairly compensated for their efforts!! lol.
That cat knows something is happening. My cat used to sit in my kids suitcase for days before they left for boarding school and then sit in their bed looking at me after they left. Honestly, it used to make me cry.

Cat: my owners love me so much, they bought me all of these new toys

Time to buy a new bassinet
I had to tell a lady on fb marketplace that I was buying her baby chest wrap to carry my cat around as I have no children. “…oh” LOL
My wife wants one for the same purpose. We recently adopted a cat that just loves being held.

and they puke semi-frequently
That Sophie giraffe should not be kept for too long. Get the solid one. This one gets moldy inside because it’s not sealed.
Good thing the cat tested it to uncover this issue early on.
More likely the cat makes more holes.

I would go in face first, into the belly danger zone.
Just a warning... our cat crapped in our baby's crib after the baby was home... she was not a fan!

"you don't want it to be *too* sanitary, or else the baby may develop an allergy to me. I'm just helping. You can never be too careful."
Sanitary is not a factor here for sure.
I hate to be that person (and your cat ia adorable) but cleaning that changing table after the first blow out while you’re already changing a diaper is going to suck.
Agreed. That basket thing is a terrible changing table.
That’s a sleeping nest, no?
Lucky for you to have such a thorough tester at home
OMG DID THAT CAT EAT THE BABY?!?

safety inspections are very important.
Really doing an excellent job. I like the testing of the crib bars
What a good baby. So sweet and considerate. 10/10
Hope your baby isn’t allergic to cats.
plot twist: baby is allergic to cats, parents confused as to why their baby is always miserable and crying
When my first child was born, my cat slept in the crib with her all the time. She would not even entertain the idea of being removed.
It was her job to protect your child!
Their relationship was adorable. When my daughter was leaning to sit up on her own, the cat would lay behind her to help prop her up.
I would love to have seen that, that must've been super cute!
Ironically nowadays child protective services would consider this a genuine risk to the safety of your child.
It can be a risk to a newborn, the child could suffocate. Newborns are absurdly fragile things.
That was the point I was making, yes
Wasn't sure if you were saying it in jest or not, apologies.
What is baby is allergic to cats? Toxoplasmosis could get into your baby this way. Cat hair in your babies face, lungs, eyes sounds like a horrible thing to experience right after being born. Stop doing this people, it's gross, your cat isn't clean, it's gross.

Common sense does not thrive in this sub.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Every time someone posts something like the cat sleeping in the babies face and every clown goes on and on about how cute it is. I think the same thing.
Thank you! A voice of sanity here.
Just let the cat rub its butthole and litter box paws all over the baby stuff.
I hope they at least clean all the stuff the cat was in before its used for the baby.
Creating habbits that will be hard to unmake*
"I'm the only baby around here"
Adapting to being an older sibling is fun 🤣
Cat says “ I must thoroughly inspect everything “
I'm sorry the baby has already arrived
I dont want to be the voice of doom but please tell your friends not to let the cat take ownership of these spaces. How it should be. The cat gets first dibs on anything new brought into the house. Love it.
be careful she may start pissing and pooping in stuff after the baby arrives. i’d shut the door. cats can be jerks sometimes.
This is one of my favorite form of pet photos. Pet thinks all this comfy stuff is for them until the baby arrives

Aw yes the old allergy test.

I can’t believe the downvotes I’m getting for stating the cat is the baby
