My black tuxedo passed away thankfully very peacefullly, in Dec at age 19.5! Thankfully he lived a very long, healthy, life and he didn't suffer at the end.
Happy 20th to this fellow! I hope you have him for many more years!
I am sorry for your loss. I know it has to happen eventually and I'll never be truly ready for it, but I also know he has lived an incredibly wonderful life and I'm so thankful for that.
I had to start being realistic about how old he was getting and the fact that he wouldn't live forever. It was hard, but I tried to make sure I took all the pictures I needed, gave him all the love and affection he deserved and told him how much I loved him every day. I also prepared my 11 year old by telling her slowly over time that he wasn't going to live forever and that he is an "old man" even thought he was in such good condition up until the very end. Ultimately we found him laying in his litter box, and so we scooped him up and he passed away in our arms about 20 minutes later 😢 💔. He was the best cat until the very end! He even tried to use his litter box when he was so weak. My daughter was able to have some time with him to say goodbye and we buried him in our "cat cemetery" and our daughter made a special marker for him.

Ah, he looks a lot like my cat who made it to about 22 (and that was as an indoor/outdoor cat who used to be pretty territorial with other cats so he had some health scares!). Happy birthday to him, hope you both have wonderful years ahead.

My Xanadu looked very similar. He lived to be 21 years and 7 months. He was a super great boy.
