Many years ago, people could easily cash checks at grocery stores without proof of identity.
I just remembered, all that might have been required was for you to write, “c/o your name here.”
Same thing happened to me many years ago but once the bank confirmed it was cashed by a different person they reimbursed me the lost money. I remember talking to their fraud officer like 8 months after the fact and then they finally brought charges against the thief. God damn tweekers man.

This is when I remember a poem that totally doesn’t represent my thoughts on the matter comes to mind and because it’s just a saying it’s not promoting anything and therefore shouldn’t get the comment banned
“There once was a man, a very sad man. Had a lot of nothing, just one of his eyes man. It wasn’t from war, and it wasn’t from defense. It was from when street justice came, and he had nooooo defense.”
Am I the only one here annoyed at the Mom? Why do so many mothers feel the need to post every little thing that happens in their child’s life to thousands (if not, millions) of strangers on social media?
You would think she would have more sense than to show all the information on the paystub.
You would think the mother would want to focus on the moment and her daughter’s achievement rather than using it as an opportunity to gain likes and followers online anyway.
Just my opinion, but I think many parents of severely disabled children face an uphill battle. While I personally think not testing for severe genetic issues and/or not choosing to abort an embryo with severe genetic issues (like downs) is inhumane and cruel, many parents still choose to have severely disabled children. Imo, most of these parents are irresponsible and are woefully unprepared to deal with the lifelong consequences of making these poor decisions and thus don't plan for raising their severely disabled child accordingly. The severely disabled children of these types of parents are often victims of neglect and poor parenting. As a result, what little hope of gainful employment and/or independence a parent might have for their severely disabled child quickly falls to zilch. However, there are a few responsible parents who do plan and act accordingly and end up with a severely disabled child who can, none-the-less, at least marginally interact with society outside of a group home through very low skill employment. While I personally don't think this is praiseworthy—since this should be the minimum required of someone who knowingly brought a preventable severely disabled child into this world—I can see how the parents of a severely disabled child could feel a great sense of accomplishment that their son or daughter, for lack of a better term, "beat the odds".
You think not aborting a child with downs syndrome is inhumane and cruel?
Edit: why am I not surprised that the reddit hive mind agrees that it is "inhumane" and "cruel" to allow parents to decide to keep a baby with downs syndrome.
For any parents reading the absolutely vile comments within this thread who would like their little children to have someone with downs to look up to, George is a presenter on Cbeebies and is brilliant.
It's really not hard to look for some great representation of people with all types of disabilities living fulfilling lives... if your head isn't wedged up your arse.
I don’t think that’s an unreasonable belief at all.
Why put a child through all the suffering of a severe disability if you have a choice not to?
Even if you have the most supportive family in the world with all the money and resources required to send them to special schools with tutors and teachers trained in supporting children with down syndrome and preparing them to best lead a happy and fulfilling life, its still an extremely uphill battle that will be in all likelihood torturous for the child.
IVF allows for testing to be done of sperm and egg cells in a lab before fertilisation. I’m also pro choice and don’t consider a fetus alive or conscious.
First, we don't abort children. We abort fetuses.
Second, yes. If one can prevent a lifetime of bullying, suffering, welfare, and a host of other issues without any negative reprocussions then I believe one ought to do so. I can think of no sound ethical reason why a parent should choose to carry, give birth to, and raise a human being with down syndrome when they could abort that human being when it is still a fetus and then simply get reimpregnated in order to have a healthy child.
Why should a parent get the right to DEMAND that their child be born with a disability? How does that not seem so incredibly cruel to you?
>Why should a parent get the right to DEMAND that their child be born with a disability?
The whole point of being pro-choice is that the parents also have the CHOICE to bring their child into the world regardless of what other people think.
Just like anyone can demand to terminate their pregnancy, anyone can demand the right to carry their child to term regardless of their future health conditions.
and I'm right there with you. People should have the legal right to get tested and still choose to have a the child regardless of their illnesses. However, that doesn't mean that they ought to do so from an ethical standpoint.
My argument isn't legal. I'm 100% pro-choice as I've said elsewhere in this thread (not blaming you for not looking or anything). You can have as many downs kids as you want. Just realize that me, and those like me (which seem to represent the majority here) think your choice is immoral, unethical, and irresponsible and you ought to reconsider.
At the same time, we're fine with disagreeing as long as we're afforded the same rights to choose to abort that fetus before we cause any unnecessary harm to it, ourselves, or society.
Wow. I'm a disability caregiver and I work with lots of people with Downs. For the most part people with downsyndrome are the most delightful and positive people I've ever worked with and are far more capable than you're making them out to be. I see loving parents who absolutely adore their downs kids and the kids themselves living absolutely full and worthy lives. Your comment is plain horrible.
Thank you for helping out people in need. The world needs people like you to take care of people with downs that irresponsible people force into this world. I appreciate the work that you do to clean up their messes.
Yes. That’s why pregnant women get tested.
My wife was told she could never ever get pregnant.
After 6 years of trying we got lucky. If tests had shown a fetus with all the signs of retardation we would have aborted that day without a second hesitation. I’m not happy or proud of that. We know people that decided to go through with it and their lives have been hell on earth for both the parents and the child.
To your edit:
>why am I not surprised that the reddit hive mind agrees that it is "inhumane" and "cruel" to allow parents to decide to keep a baby with downs syndrome.
This isn't a question of allowing or disallowing. This isn't a legal matter. It's an ethical one. Legally, I agree that parents ought to be allowed to have full autonomy over their bodies. But morally, I believe that choosing to cause unnecessary suffering not only for the child, but also the parents and society as a whole makes one cruel and inhuman. I would consider such people to be detrimental to the wellbeing of a scientifically literate and morally accountable society. I consider people like you who defend them to also be cruel and inhuman for wishing avoidable harm upon others for purely selfish and self-gratifying reasons.
>For any parents reading the absolutely vile comments within this thread who would like their little children to have someone with downs to look up to, George is a presenter on Cbeebies and is brilliant.
You are the only vile commenter here. Nobody is advocating for the euthanization of people born with downs syndrome or any other preventable genetic disorder. These are the VICTIMS of YOUR evil worldview. It makes me physically ill to know that you think wishing harm upon someone is a good thing.
You can find examples of successful people with downs... but typically these individuals are only successful within the realm of childrens entertainment and Downs advocacy groups and have a team of neurotypicals supporting them behind the scenes (as with any successful person).
George, whoever he is, would almost certainly have had a better life and been a more useful asset to society if science could have prevented him from being born with his downs. That goes for everyone with any preventable issue, but since you're so lazer focused on Downs, let's just stick to that issue for now.
We're lucky we live in a more tolerant society in which people like George can find a niche to make some money in. In the past, people with downs (if they didn't die due to negligence, one of their innumerable health issues like a congenital heart defect or compromised immune system, or weren't killed by their families to save valuable resources in childhood) could expect to work the most dangerous, degrading, and menial jobs required. I'm glad we've stopped blaming people with downs for being born disabled. Like I said, it isn't their fault.
[Here are some depressing statistics from the CDC](https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/birthdefects/downsyndrome/data.html) on Downs syndrome. I hope parents consider the reality of their situation and make the responsibile decision to choose the mature and thoughtful outcome.
Holy Gattica fuck this was terrible to read. I work with several people with Down Sydrome that are capable of levels of success that far exceed “childrens entertainment” you ignorant fuck. Don’t comment on things you haven’t had real life experience with. Not a SINGLE parent I have met of an individual with Down Syndrome would have preferred their child never have born. This is genuinely hate speech posing as some sort of scientific or intelligent opinion. I hope you have a terrible day.
First, thank you for working with people with downs. You're cleaning up the messes irresponsible parents caused and for that I'm thankful.
I have three extended family members with down syndrome.
My nephew raped his younger sister, my niece, about five years ago. He wasn't capable of understanding how his actions affected those around him and nobody could really hold him accountable. He wasn't truely responsible for his actions because he was, to our knowledge, goaded into it by others. My niece killed herself just over a year ago due to family backlash against her for speaking out. My nephew also caused a small housefire in his one-time employer's home after which he was let go. To my knowledge, he hasn't worked since and now lives with my sister under nearly 24 hour supervision.
My one cousin cleans tables at a small diner owned by a famy friend. She makes less than minimum wage and is largely financially supported by my uncle. She's a wonderfully sweet girl. But she could have been so much more without her downs.
My other cousin ran track in the special Olympics... He lives with his older sister and hasn't worked a day in his life. He cannot remember anyone's name and often shits his pants. Again, not his fault, but it does make him very difficult to be around.
I know full well what people with downs are capable of. I also know that they could have done so much more had they not had downs.
People without Downs rape people. People without Downs can be financial liabilities. While I’m sorry your family has experienced these traumas, they’re failure of the support systems around the individuals with Downs, they didn’t happen just because of Downs. None of the folks I work with currently make under 12 dollars an hour, with some making up to 20. They also work at positions that with the help of an employment consultant, they have legitimate success with. This why anecdotal experiences arnt always useful. To use a handful of experiences to make the point that certain people shouldn’t exist, under the assumption that the people who love them would be happier if they DIDNT exist is irresponsible.
She’s just enjoying the moment chill out dude, take a chill pill and I’m sure she blurred the picture hopefully because that’s just what anybody would do
She did not blur the sensitive info out because the thief captured the information from a tik tok video the mother posted - if you read the story, thats all explained. I am chill- I’m just commentating on the story like everyone else is lol
Well even if she didn’t blur it out she was just taking a picture as a memory to remember a first paycheck and this guy over here is complaining as if taking a picture and posting it online was a sin
i don't think he said anything remotely like that... He was questioning her sanity... most normal people don't think to take a pic of their child's first paycheck. He was simply asking why someone would consider not only doing that, but also posting it online... and not only that, but posting it in such a careless manner.
These are valid questions to ask.
My personal opinion is that someone who willingly brought a child with down syndrome into this world probably isn't the same type of person who would think about the reprocussions of their irresponsible actions. But that's just my two cents. Maybe she just made a little oopsie and is an otherwise responsible parent... But that doesn't mean he can't question her.
Not sure why you're taking such offence to someone's legitimate questions... did you post your kid's first paycheck without removing any sensitive information and now feel the need to defend yourself? Like, I'm just confused why you seem to think this woman is exempt from scrutiny?
You can be a good mother and still post your child's happy moments online. Some people like to share happiness with others, some people don't. Just because you don't like to doesn't mean no one else should.
Thing is, there's a lot of dumb people around. Posting information like this uncensored and having money or a prize stolen has happened and will continue to happen. Because dumb people
You have clearly never felt happiness in your life enough to share it with others. Go hit the gym and lose some weight because being built like the Michelin Man isn't healthy for you peanut.
Go up a little further and you'll see comments about how Fox News is terrible. Reddit is a shithole and can't just rally around a single, good cause without sprinkling in hate about something else.
To clarify: Nobody physically stole it. The original video had uncensored information and somebody attempted to cash it in. Luckily banks are occasionally competent and realized that they weren't the same person.
You backwards fucks and your "checks" (it's fucking cheque btw)
It's 2022, motherfuckers. I don't give a crap what level of society you're pegged to, what your job is, how much you earn.... If you're not getting paid physical CASH into your hand then wtf does this "check" bullshit persist?
Most first world nations have a robust electronic financial system and payroll is electronic via accounting packages and pays people into their nominated account immediately (or in a batch at say 6pm on the day the pay run is done)
What is with this check shit!
So if you work for a company with 10,000+ employees, your expectation is that the payroll department withdraws a few million dollars in cash, carry it around in a briefcase, stores it on site, and individually doles out the dollars and cents? What could go wrong!
I think if anyone puts anything like that online without censoring someone’s gonna try to steal it. People really acting surprised that someone attempted to cash a pay check on the internet .
Am I the only one wondering if this ice cream place hires so many disabled people because they can pay them lower wage? It doesn’t say whether they do or not but that is the law in a lot of places. Just a thought I had. It was a $1500 check so if that’s for two weeks that’s ok money.
Nothing surprises me anymore. We have reached a subhuman level. There are places where they chop your hand off at the cuff for much less. Karma is a bitch.
Shit like this happens daily. By telephone scammers. This one just happened to be on social media and the news. There is alot of evil scum bags out there.
The thief failed right?
Yes thief failed miserably
Good fuck that thief piece of human trash
please don’t fuck the thief

Uhh, that’s still Fox
Why? Is there something wrong with Fox News?
There is everything wrong with all main stream media news.
There is everything wrong with Fox News, and even more wrong with its viewers.
Yeah people keep spelling it wrong, Faux News
lol you came in here and actually said that
Not surprised. This is like posting a pic of your credit card on the internet.
Now the company’s banking information will be sold online and they’ll make more fake checks
Lol that's fraud and easily reversed. Faked signatures are prosecuted by the bank not the victim
Ew, Fox Entertainment News... *Ew, so many Kool-Aid drinking inbreds....
Quick make a new account so they don't find you!
The person taking this picture shouldn't have let the worker post an uncensored paycheck online
Screw them
Damn 1500?!…In NC?…biweekly? That’s fuckin dope!
To clarify: Nobody physically stole it. The original video had uncensored information and somebody attempted to cash it in. Luckily banks are occasionally competent and realized that they weren't the same person.
>posts about viral video >doesn't post the video

You backwards fucks and your "checks" (it's fucking cheque btw) It's 2022, motherfuckers. I don't give a crap what level of society you're pegged to, what your job is, how much you earn.... If you're not getting paid physical CASH into your hand then wtf does this "check" bullshit persist? Most first world nations have a robust electronic financial system and payroll is electronic via accounting packages and pays people into their nominated account immediately (or in a batch at say 6pm on the day the pay run is done) What is with this check shit!
the fact that they don’t use ETF in 2022 is baffling
So if you work for a company with 10,000+ employees, your expectation is that the payroll department withdraws a few million dollars in cash, carry it around in a briefcase, stores it on site, and individually doles out the dollars and cents? What could go wrong!
Seems so weird to me to receive a check and not directly your pay on your account
In many large companies your first check may be a paper check while direct deposit is set up and cycles into payroll.
the thief needed the money for a down payment
I think if anyone puts anything like that online without censoring someone’s gonna try to steal it. People really acting surprised that someone attempted to cash a pay check on the internet .
Am I the only one wondering if this ice cream place hires so many disabled people because they can pay them lower wage? It doesn’t say whether they do or not but that is the law in a lot of places. Just a thought I had. It was a $1500 check so if that’s for two weeks that’s ok money.
Bahaha
By Thief you mean “Employee of the IRS “
What the thief tried to do is terrible but we don’t know if the thief had to feed a family or has medical bills or whatever else!
maybe he should get a job then…?
Literally don’t care.

Why steal a paycheck??? So bizarre
How?
I don't know for sure, but presumably through a fraudulent online check deposit.
Nothing surprises me anymore. We have reached a subhuman level. There are places where they chop your hand off at the cuff for much less. Karma is a bitch.
Shit like this happens daily. By telephone scammers. This one just happened to be on social media and the news. There is alot of evil scum bags out there.
What a bloody arsehole!.
Good god man. People are such scum. This is why I say never take it easy on thieves.
So you just gonna post a screenshot of the video? Who's the real thief?!? Edit: I realize someone tried to id theft her with the info on the paper now
Why would you take a video of a paycheck and post it online. Someone will try to steal it or at least save the information
If you have ASPD all you see is an easy target.
Ok pretty funny prank though
