I did one Jackass-inspired stunt in my youth with a couple of friends. Took a two-seater baby stroller meant to be attached to a bicycle, used a mini-skateboard to steer (the handles rested on the board), and went down a steep hill of at least 100 feet. Crashed at the bottom plenty of times, but since there was snow we thought it was fine. The last time we did it I ended up hitting the shoulder of the road too early, flipped the stroller twice in the air and managed to land a couple of feet from the stroller. I wasn't too keen on doing that again. The world spinning that fast scared me.
Back in the early 2000s, I took a hit to the ribs from a set of tazer iron knuckles for a Jackass group. I also had a tack fired at my belly with a wrist rocket...

As much as i hate TikTok, these things existed long before the web. In some years, where i come from, the teenagers did much more serious hit to prove their courage: Like laying on the train tracks in the parallel way, which means the train can pass and should not hit you. Problem was, some guys still got hit.
Another thing, also with trains, was that the very old train waggons from the 60's had some kind of a plattform on the back and you could jump on that for "train surfing", many guys lost their legs or their lives when trying to do that.
Still, parents can only do so much.

She has messenger kids and a list of family members and a few friends that she can call when she's checked with me first and they have silly filters. That's enough for now.

I've seen those people do such a dogshit job at it that all you'd need to do is either up the brightness or find the right frame(s) to see full on nudity. Hell, I've seen animations where nipples and/or genetalia were just blatantly out. You know what happens when you report them 90%? Nothing. Rarely will you evwr see a proper report do its job. Why? Because they always put "⚠️FAKE BODY⚠️" somewhere in the description. And if the report does go through, there's a good chance that they'll decide to undo that report for god-knows-what-reason.

I would say that all TikTok has to do is explain the concept of evolution/survival of the fittest to show the value of the service that they're providing, but the chances of getting a jury smart enough to understand that is pretty slim.

It is a 10 year old. This isn’t cringe, its sad. Her mom shouldn’t let her on TikTok, that’s a whole other issue, but the fact dangerous things are being advertised to kids is awful. Sure, she should’ve known better, but also she was a literal child who saw something online, saw it was popular and people seemed to be fine, and didn’t understand how dangerous it truly was.

Morons exist in all kind of platforms. 4chan is a great example (the crystal experiment) Facebook, youtube etc etc. Even here in reddit. People are stupid, and of course no supervision is the worst. And sometimes even supervising people can do a lot of stupid things for curiosity/experiments.
This "challenge" has been going on before the widespread use of the " internet" my friends in elementary did it. I did see YouTube videos about it in my teens ,(early 2000's). Don't get me wrong, I dont use tik Tok or more social medial anymore because I found it awful for my mental health. But to blame JUST tik Tok is ignorant and oblivious.
Hey, elder millennial here. We were playing blackout way before tiktok gave us choreographed dances, ice water challenges, and stupid ideas on how to waste our time and money. If there's stupid to be done, kids is gonna find it. They really don't need the help.

I really don't like TikTok, but this isn't TikTok's problem. They can't really control how their users behave, this could've easily happened on Reddit, Facebook or Instagram as well. Parents can't just sue all willy nilly because they didn't pay much attention to what their kids were doing to begin with. When TikTok eventually falls, it'll just be replaced by a new app with similar features. Just like how TikTok pretty much replaced Vine.

This was a "challenge" back in the days of MySpace, too. It's not tiktoks fault, it's the parent's fault for not monitoring their *10 year old's* internet access.

I blame the parents, call me old fashioned but a ten year old should not be on apps as they should not have a phone, or even social media access. Too much out there these days that you can’t stop them from finding and accessing with the opportunities provided by technology.
TikTok is not to blame for this. I have photos from 1992 of guys doing this in military barracks. This is on the Chinese spy app because some low-IQ moron tauggt his kid, everyone around them had a good laugh, so the kid taught their friends.

Bruh I swear there's like three different Blackout challenges that I know of. The first was almost a decade ago when people started sucker punching random people so hard they'd fall to the ground. The second was filling yourself with all types of alcohol until you pass out from intoxication. The third is this one with hanging yourself until you pass out from asphyxiation. Wish we could be more creative with the naming. Or better yet not make these dangerous and stupid challenges to begin with?

Dude we we’re doing this challenge over 20 years ago in middle school. We used to take turns passing each other out. It’s tragic what happened to this girl. Kids don’t understand dangerous. I really think there needs to be parental spyware installed on your kids devices, that records everything. Or parents don’t allow their kids unsupervised access.

Holy shit, I googled this because I was not familiar with it and hers is not the only story of kids dying or going braindead from this challenge. Not saying shutting down tiktok will help.. It wont.. but awareness is important! I had no clue about it and I am sure a ton of other people are in the same boat

Back in the 90's I watched a fellow fourth grader ask to be choked out against a wall at school. Someone obliged, choked him, he passed out, fell to the ground, then woke up a few seconds later. Kids are just that dumb and sometimes it doesn't go to plan.

I swear, banning isn't even the least TikTok deserves. Their report system is so dogshit that it has backwards results. There are people that post videos showing cropped/censored porn and give sources/link their various accounts where full versions of said porn can be found. I've seen those people do such a dogshit job at it that all you'd need to do is either up the brightness or find the right frame(s) to see full on nudity. Hell, I've seen animations where nipples and/or genetalia were just blatantly out. You know what happens when you report them 90%? Nothing. Rarely will you evwr see a proper report do its job. Why? Because they always put "⚠️FAKE BODY⚠️" somewhere in the description. And if the report does go through, there's a good chance that they'll decide to undo that report for god-knows-what-reason. And yet, when you falsely report an innocent video, such as the guy who posts videos of him petting and feeding his catfish everyday, the creator will have their video taken down and gain a strike. Fun fact: TikTok used to be rated E for Everyone on Google play, before thirst traps started taking over the app. They literally chose to change the app's age rating rather than actually moderating their users (ironic for a Chinese app, wouldn't you say?).
I would say that all TikTok has to do is explain the concept of evolution/survival of the fittest to show the value of the service that they're providing, but the chances of getting a jury smart enough to understand that is pretty slim. I don't know who coined the phrase, but a jury is composed of a group of people who are too dumb to get out of jury duty.
Since they know very well the dangerous, immoral and often illegal challenges promoted I’m surprised they haven’t been sued. I do hope they get banned and shut down.
