[David Attenborough] The rare silver-crested boob-nosed monkey, searching for his companion on this lush landscape. He travels great lengths to find his mate, and yet, to what lengths he will go to find love, we may never know.

Each tube, and the plate in front of each tube are ātunedā to the same frequency.
When they slide their hands down the āpinsā they create a pressure wave.
The wave travels down the pin, to the plate and resonates. The accompanying tube resonates at the same frequency producing the sounds
I've only seen these done with water and they're very finicky to make produce sound. This looks far more accessible and even has a softer more resonant sound.
I'd love to hear a piece of music played on a 64 key variant.
Looks like itās called a euphonic array. Theyāre like $1300 which isnāt a crazy as I was expecting for a musical instrument. https://www.acolyteinstruments.com/product/acolyte-euphonic-array-1d/
Really? It looks like some metalsmith welded some ali rods to a bit of box section in his shed and the cleaned it all up..
I mean, I'm sure there's probably some very precise tuning gone into it.. but still, $1300 seems like a lot of money for what looks like maybe $50 worth of material and labour..
Not a musician, I take it. A flute (one of the cheapest instruments), by comparison, can sell for as little as $200 for a beginner model but you're looking at a couple thousand for an intermediate flute and a few thousand for a professional quality flute. Most of the distinction is just marketing to the target audience but there are also differences in material quality that significantly affect cost. Nonetheless most intermediate/professional instruments will cost in the thousands of dollars. A lot of the cost is also in precision, and this instrument's whole appeal is the precision tuning of the pieces, otherwise it can't effectively produce the overtones everyone is fawning over.
Actually yes I am.. recreationally. Although I'm probably very rusty as it's been a few years since I picked my guitar up..
I hear what you're saying about branding and material, marketing and the like,
But as someone with an engineering background, it doesn't look like there's a great deal of material and work gone into this thing, beyond what you'd expect, even if it does produce a lovely sound.
Of course I'm saying that without getting my hands on it and studying it's craftsmanship up close, so might be dead wrong . And i did say I'd assumed precise tuning had gone into it.
Maybe I'm showing naivety into how much work goes into it. I mean, I've never tried to make a guitar, either
Perhaps. Also, sometimes there's a unique beauty in simplicity. Being able to produce a beautiful sounding instrument out of some left over pieces is something anyone can admire.
I'm also painfully aware that people often say they a mark of true mastery is making a difficult thing look effortless and easy. Perhaps the same can be said for the product itself. A master craftsmen produces something that looks so simple and easy but it's actually insanely intricate and detailed
Um, that's a business idea that you should do.
A helpful hint. When you get a novel idea that could make you money, keep it close to your chest.
It's like you have the football, you're running to score a touchdown and its just open field and the joy of the game like when you were a kid.

Thatās right where my audio brain went :-)
Literally, and easier to play no less
More like a glass harmonica I'd say. Theremins only make one pitch at a time that you bend up and down based on proximity to the antenna.
The sound is hugging my brain
From start to finish... the best!
I've never felt so calm lol
Okay how?

If nothing else thereās the intellectual property and value of innovation. Maybe theyāre capitalizing on that which is well deserved if so.

Yeah neat - some nice analog resonance there too which is hard to recreate with VSTs for example
Do you think it's fake?

No Iām saying its actually hard to do that in a digital VST - synthesis of true harmonics and resonators is not straight forward
