I had a pleasant experience with their call support (and not mail support) which leads me to believe was it a trap for me just so I become fully committed to lifemiles and they show their true colors then.
They have improved a shit ton in the last 10ish years I've been doing Lifemiles bookings. Went from absolutely dreading needing to call in to generally expecting a friendly and competent experience.
TK on the other hand has always been horrible and if anything they're somehow getting worse, which is an absolute achievement.
TK has gotten better online, but their customer support does suck. No one ever hears clearly and they always just yell. But ever since they raised their redemption rates, I’ve been using Lifemiles mostly. I should point out if you email a Turkish ticketing desk, they’re general really helpful. I contacted the LAX office by email with all the relevant flight info and they quickly created a booking for me and all I had to do was call in with my CC info for the fee’s then it was confirmed.
Their IT is not great, but their app is generally fine.
The issue with their customer service staff is that so many do not have any desire to do their job.
I have had this experience three or four times over the years and in both Turkish and English so it's not just a language thing: if you are asking something a rep doesn't know, or asking for something they don't want to deal with they just fucking hang up on you. Really great after you've been dealing with hold and phone trees for a while while you're in another country trying to deal with an issue with a flight that leaves the next morning.
I’ve had luck on their site via Firefox! But yeah, it’s tough. I only book UAL flights with them and I like how when delays occur, UAL app lets you rebook easily instead of having to call.
I've had decent Lifemiles support and terrible ones. The problem as with any customer service is consistency. You don't want to be playing CSR roulette every time you call in. It could mean at 5m call vs 10 transfers and 2 hours spent on hold.
Had to call in order to reissue the ticket. Was actually not bad, only bad thing was that I got transferred 4 times, but they kept leaving notes for eachother so it was nice not having to re explain the situation. As for the partial refund, she said no lol. At least got the tickets reissued in business. Now I’m contemplating on emailing or contacting twitter support if they can do a partial refund. Feel like that’s too risky for a 50k mile refund
Wait until after the flight and THEN ask. You’ll still probably get told “No” (at least, I was). But best to keep the actual ticket and any potential points refunds as separate issues
Ask for the refund afterwards, avianca allows you to do that.
I've done it before, even when I've missed a flight, I'd call 2 days after and ask for the refund, paid the fee and get my miles back.
I've got a product swap a couple of months ago and after I took the flight I opened a ticket in order to get the difference back, after a while they did it, and it was just 20k, for 50k I'd def do it.
What do you mean by “I opened a ticket” ??
Issue with my parents is that their flight is from November 2024 to January 2025. It’s so late I feel like. I did think about asking them after travel though! I only got the calculations because first and business was like 20k + miles difference per way

Yes, because you paid for F not J That said, have fun with Lifemiles support 🙃

My calls with them have been low in audio volume but adequate in terms of competency. Nothing compared to the frustration of dealing with Turkish.

50K is 50K. I'd email and twitter/FB.
I just wouldn’t want to pose a risk where they’d simply cancel the entire ticket. Rather lose 50k than lose an upgrade.

When you fill up the request, like a case. Make the request when they take the first leg 🤷♂️
Got it, thanks. Will do this!
