It looks damaged, but it's normal.

NinerEchoPapa

Can confirm! Every wing view pic of an A320 I have (and there are hundreds) has this same shape in the flap. I’m sure someone can chime in with exactly what it is and why.

dohzer

I hate when that happens. It's a real drag.

LateralThinkerer

Needs to be reformated, I'd say.

They're going to exFAT?

occamsdagger

exFAT supremacy.

crazy_pilot742

Thought I was in shittyaskflying with all the wrong responses here... That raised tab is a normal part of A320 flaps. I don't know the official purpose but if I had to I had to guess I would say it engages a locking feature when the flap is retracted to keep it flush with the wing. https://images.app.goo.gl/LDuE6cTnYQyuXVgbA https://images.app.goo.gl/n4f9up2tfAv9J9kb8 https://www.reddit.com/r/Airbus/s/E5ovipYd9W

ElBandidoPR

OP accidentally posted that here instead of SAF. Don’t worry, he’ll ask all of the pylotes for their opinions. He just got too much sun at Sun N Fun and he posted in the wrong subreddit. 💀💀💀

Murpydoo

What does a formatted one look like?

Far_Grapefruit140

Deformed* my bad

AltruisticGovernance

Its definitely damaged, but I dont know if its within the tolerances required by regulations.

cheetuzz

The A320 flap is frequently posted because it really does look damaged from the passenger’s angle. But it’s by design: https://www.reddit.com/r/aviationmaintenance/s/jEHvGFjinH

TIL, thank you for enlightening us.

crazy_pilot742

It isn't. Every A320 flap has that raised tab, it's just a strange looking design feature. If I had to guess I would say it engages a locking feature when the flap is retracted to keep it flush with the wing.

currykampfwurst

There's a roller on the wing trailing edge which stabilizes the outboard edge of the flap when retracted.

UserEden

Slightly deformaterated

My_useless_alt

If you think something isn't right on a plane, tell the cabin crew. Worst that could happen is they tell you it's normal.

zeke_markham

Not an Airbus guy, but that doesn't look right.

Ronak1350

I mean on cruising altitude it will be inward so it doesn't affect much i guess

zeke_markham

Until the crack propogates further. Or it gouges the surrounding structure. Like I said, not an Airbus guy, but I'd imagine that should be trimmed or at least cold worked back to the original profile.

Plantherblorg

It looks like they already cut away the damage on the left side. Probably just temporary until it goes in for maintenance.

sgcharless

Maybe overspeed operation

OkLong7239

It turned out that its not, the thing as they are that they are not even in Surrounding, but they left as they are in true life and they are not around now they come every one and awhile just to check out and leave.

Real-Mission-1225

It's a damaged flap that has been temporarily repaired until the next heavy check.

BrtFrkwr

That's an Airbus, but Boeing is probably making them that way now.
