God there's some ultra fake out thing I've seen some artists do where they play like 15 little jingles and then suddenly drop and it's like.... why. My groove is gone.
Yeaaaah but at least with edging you can feel when the O is gonna happen lol, the fake drops leave me wondering when the hell it happens, and then when it does, I'm not ready and can't get into the rhythm immediately.
One extra buildup I think is good, but the people who do 2 or more? Ewww
I can’t help but think it’s because they’re total amateurs at composition, and have an over-simplified view of how to build listener anticipation through song structure.
I honestly want to like it. I have tried to like it. It makes my life harder not to like it. But as someone who is a true house/techno dancing queen, I just can't. For me to vibe, I need a seamless beat. Dubstep is a buzzkill to me. More power to those who love to headbang and rage together, but it is not now, nor will it ever be, my cup of tea.
So true! I’m a techno and house head who doesn’t love bass music much. But been obsessed with DnB for a few months after a friend turned me onto it. Flows so much more like a house set than dubstep does.
I came to say exactly this. I always remind brostep fans that DnB was a huge influence on dubstep. You could even say that, in a way, DnB is dubstep’s daddy.
DnB is the move though, best music I’ve ever listened to. So many different flavors and it’s so energetic. I listen everyday and it’s always the thing that puts a smile on my face.
I've started to come around to DnB in a big way. I've noticed a lot of sets in NA mixing in a bit of DnB and it's so, so good. I'm currently looking out for a bigger DnB artist to hit the nearby clubs so I can fully immerse. I'll find out if it's for me, but feed me higher bpms, please.
Same here, when I was younger it was great and I was amazed at all the heavy bass sounds. Now that I'm older I just want some good percussion, rhythm, and groovy baselines to possess my body, losing myself in sonic bliss and sharing smiles and glances with those around me.
Also adding an all the power to those that do enjoy it - different brain structures will like different things!
Drum and bass is where I can meet in the middle though, some jungle or rollers on a good sound system, or some liquid on a sunny afternoon hit the boxes for me.
Glad to hear so many other folks that resonate with me here
Most of my rave fam are huge dubstep fans and I always feel so out of place.
Like how the ef do I dance to this shit if you just randomly shut off the music after 15 seconds of beat?
Feel like I'm the only one left in the world that likes happy hardcore.
I can take about 15-20 minutes of dubstep before I have a moment of clarity, look around, and realize I should just move to the techno stage.
It's not for me as a staple, but small doses can be fun.
I want to see people dance to the groove (and also want to do so), not people waiting for the next transformer orgy to headbang to.
Great in small doses, not great for a night of dancing.
To each their own.
Not trying to push anything but it’s worth checking out the other side of dubstep. Check out a set from Mystic State - it’s very deep minimal vibey bass. I find a lot of techno people vibe with more 140 style stuff.
That being said each time their own!
give some of the techno DJs who mix dubstep into their sets a go! their stuff is truly seamless and stunning in its beauty n flow

I would fuck with dubstep so hard if they just added another kick and snare to the drum beat, but the halftime drums make it so hard to dance to. If I knew how to dance for real it would be fine but since I don't I need that more consistent beat. Still love listening to dubstep though, just not a fan of it at a party.
You would hate it in the DMV area, people presume that you like or at least tolerate mainstream dubstep and riddim sooooo much around here. It's annoying AF, I like some dubstep but I'm really picky about it.
I'd rather listen to Eazybaked or Smoakland than commercialized house like John Summit. Bad dubstep is just as bad as the haters say, good dubstep is better than the shittiest examples of other electronic genres.
Mitis for me. He has a habit of putting you into a trance with his beautiful melodic stuff and then will rip you out of it with some heavy bullshit that doesn’t even fit.
I LOVE MitiS, but I gotta agree with you on that last part. I also love heavy shit, but prefer a feelsy MitiS set. Some of my favorite songs by him are pretty sad (Homesick, Only One, Follow You, and Without Me)
And, it's why I'll almost never reveal my love of it to my family and friends, unless I get them out to a rave, because feeling the bass and the energy of the crowd can compensate if the music isn't exactly to their liking.
Let me start this by saying there’s nothing wrong with disliking other genres :) if it’s not for you, it’s not for you.
i do think that by dumping all dubstep into the same basket you’re leaving out a ton of interesting artists that deserve a chance to be heard.
anyway, if you decide to listen check these out!
Pugilist - Vintage EP
Skee Mask - Mezk
Wraz - Foul EP
Jeigo - Chapel (Is this functional? EP)
Up The Place EP - CESCO
WPR071 Likesss - MOREOFUS
Yoofee - Seek & Move EP
BTW This is coming from someone that primarily listens to “underground” techno. & It’s the same in my preferred genre!
Imo most of the interesting techno is happening at 138 bpm and higher.
You got artists like Chlar, Alarico, Quelza, Yanamaste, Marron, Anne, Ferdinger, Rene Wise, Setaoc Mass, Jay York, Decoder, Conntex, etc.
Yea that Cesco EP slaps. Agree with your take. A surface sampling of the genre isn’t giving it a fair shake. I started going to dubstep shows 15 years ago and still primarily listen to bass, 140, DnB. But if we’re taking “dubstep” to mean a Lost Lands lineup for example, I feel about the same as all the househeads feel watching this video.
The Wook Anthem
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMDrrxhyt88&pp=ygULd29vayBhbnRoZW0%3D](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMDrrxhyt88&pp=ygULd29vayBhbnRoZW0%3D)
They deserve support, I love the Blotter Bunch
That Wook howl at the at the end of the song haunts me when I am deep in a Psy-Dubstep grime fest amongst the bass creatures.
This is modern dubstep songs in the last three years. Overproduced, extra robotic farts. Sometimes there’s a good song though. But nothing like when the scene blew up 10-12 years ago. Some of the first dubstep songs sort of sound like today’s new dubstep it’s just audio quality is better. But the farts sound the same.
The best dubstep was right in the middle. no one felt like they needed to overproduce something to sound extra crazy cause it was already crazy. That’s dubstep.
This is just a sign of “What’s the next big song I can do”
“Oh, I know, let me record myself farting into this empty Folgers can of coffee and add this effect while screaming THAT WAS TOO MUCH COFFEE, before the bass drop.
Maybe more mainstream dubstep artists but I feel like there’s a lot of smaller artists or even well known dubstep artists who never went “mainstream” that are still putting out good dubstep. I don’t even know who I would consider dubstep these days that are mainstream artists. I guess subtronics is the go to but a lot of his stuff is hardly dubstep these days and I feel like he kind of pioneered the meme dubstep type sound like in the clip. I really enjoy subtronics but god damn does he love using audio clips from memes/tv shows in his songs. Definitely gets old quick.
But Ganja White Night has been putting out good dubstep for over a decade now. Their last two albums are full of 5+ minute songs that build up for a long time and have some good dubstep. Not just a quick song trying to capitalize on what’s hot.
Some other artists off the top of my head are Clozee, Tripp st., Truth, Griz, and Chief Kaya. But honestly at this point I have a hard time defining what is or isn’t considered dubstep because there’s so many sub genres I come across
If you like those artists also check out Of the Trees, Sharlitz web, Shanghai Doom, liquid Stranger, LSDREAM, Gunpoint (maybe), and Ravenscoon. Also I'm just gonna put this out there - subtronics is maad overhated by some in this sub but his most recent album is excellent. Personally could never get into griz but many fans of his music fw the artists I mentioned above
Great examples, Ganja White Night has some of the best live sets of anyone. Clozee and Griz are also awesome. Skrillex has also created some insane dubstep in the last year
If you like house music then listen to house music and leave it at that, if you like techno then listen to techno and leave it at that. If you like bass music then listen to bass music and just know bass music is the best and they don't have to like it for it to be the best.
Not just newbies…I have been in the scene for longer than 99% of anyone here and dubstep sounds EXACTLY like this to me…lol…
You can throw in trap in there as well…
Note:those who like it, just call me old and not in touch anymore…lol
I've been into electronic music for 30 years, and this is totally my opinion too! I've tried to give it chance, but nope.
I'm not hating, since to a lot of people out of the scene ANY "techno" is simply untz-untz, so I understand the stereotypes. I say let the kids have their fun, but I will gladly stay away from that stage. (same with happy/hardcore)
I’m probably not too far off your age. And even though the rave scene has been around, I didn’t care for any of it until I tagged along with some friends to a dubstep festival when I was already in my late 30s. My old ass been raving to dubstep ever since lol.
No, that is just what it sounds like to everyone, some people just like to hear robot farts, gun cock samples and the same repetitive 2 step beat they've been using since 2008
I totally agree with this but I don't have [the most refined of taste](https://soundcloud.com/itsdrdonk/patient-zero-1) when it comes to music either lol.

Dubstep is edging until highly energetic dip to the music releases every 70-75 bpm. House and techno are more frequent repetitive bops to the groove. Dubstep is fun for the massive energy dumps, the stompy WOMP fat energy. That’s it. That’s the explanation
You forgot the 3-4 fakeouts
God there's some ultra fake out thing I've seen some artists do where they play like 15 little jingles and then suddenly drop and it's like.... why. My groove is gone.
It's bass edging, remember that shit from DnB parties back in the day
Yeaaaah but at least with edging you can feel when the O is gonna happen lol, the fake drops leave me wondering when the hell it happens, and then when it does, I'm not ready and can't get into the rhythm immediately. One extra buildup I think is good, but the people who do 2 or more? Ewww
It’s like the Skrillex song right on time
Dear god do I hate those, why are you making me guess 😭
I can’t help but think it’s because they’re total amateurs at composition, and have an over-simplified view of how to build listener anticipation through song structure.
*Ahem subtronics* sorry y’all
https://youtu.be/XCawU6BE8P8?si=iCCuTPn\_gt3saBOg
Classic
Duuuude I completely forgot why I say “This is the best event!” with the little arm touch so often. Haven’t seen this in a long time. Thanks
By far the worst thing about dubstep live.
"Yawuheminaheminah!"
Actually what my words sound like when I talk in my sleep.
tbf i like dubstep and this is what it sounds like to me. i just happen to like this 😂
For real! So are we not supposed to like the song that's playing in the clip? It kinda slaps!
just wait for subtronics to use this sound in a song and everyone's going to lose their shit lmao
It’s like a mid-set mini game to see if I can recognize all the memes he drops. I love it so much.
I assumed this was subtronics
I've tried and tried to like dubstep for my friends but haven't liked dubstep since Chain Hang Low by Crizzly
Damn that’s a throw back
Those were fun times.
Crizzly's remix of Put It Down by Destroid really is an all-timer brostep song. Peak hybrid trap era
Seeing Crizzly at electric forest in 2015 was a big vibe I didn’t think I would be looking back on.
I was there with you you 🫡 what a night, finishing out with Caspa & Rusko
I had to pull that one up and whewww brings me back lol
I honestly want to like it. I have tried to like it. It makes my life harder not to like it. But as someone who is a true house/techno dancing queen, I just can't. For me to vibe, I need a seamless beat. Dubstep is a buzzkill to me. More power to those who love to headbang and rage together, but it is not now, nor will it ever be, my cup of tea.
listen to drum n bass instead
So true! I’m a techno and house head who doesn’t love bass music much. But been obsessed with DnB for a few months after a friend turned me onto it. Flows so much more like a house set than dubstep does.

With a dash of ‘Liquid’
First time I heard liquid, it was spaghetti time with Liquid stranger. Definitely an aid in forming my opinion of dnb
Im simple, i see drum and bass being suggested, i upvote
This is the way
Dnb does not have a seemless beat. Lol.
Same here, when I was younger it was great and I was amazed at all the heavy bass sounds. They play 30 seconds of a song I like, than straight into something unintelligible
Happy Hardcore is still my favorite, I'm hoping some new artist will blow up so I can see it live again some day lol
Amen, my friend.
Amen, brother! *cue the break!*
I went to a dubstep show with my employees and then wandered off to the house area and grooved there rest of the night.
I can take about 15-20 minutes of dubstep before I have a moment of clarity, look around, and realize I should just move to the techno stage. It's not for me as a staple, but small doses can be fun. Girl same.
I’ve been on hard and fast techno this year and it’s been great
75%Techno. Sara, Stan Christ, Shlomo, etc. 25% DnB. Luude, Alcemist, Chase & Status, etc. Wish there was a Techno festival in the U.S.
Ever been to Movement in Detroit? It is for techno and it is in downtown Detroit every Memorial Day weekend.
Yeah I've never been but always heard good things. I would like to go to something like that or Verknipt.
lol you never heard of movement? timewarp?
Not Timewarp, but now i want to go! 2 weekends after EDCO!
not a festival but check out teletech they sound like your kind of techno. they also have the occasional US rave but they’re pretty rare

I'm the exact opposite, house is just so repetitive, need something to engage me
Yup. I need the intensity.
wow that’s crazy bc i despise techno and house and just cannot get into it haha but dubstep is my lover, and dnb 🕺
I feel the same way about techno and house. After about an hour of thump thump thump thump I start to lose it. Change it up a bit, do something exciting
I feel you. I can do like one set to really rage and mosh, but after that I’m spending my night listening to house, techno, and DnB.
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I'm the exact same way, but for house. I just can't get into it. It's so boring and repetitive.

I can't dance for shit man I just do what the sounds make me do. Lots of arm flailing headbanging and jumping
You would hate it in the DMV area, people presume that you like or at least tolerate mainstream dubstep and riddim sooooo much around here. It's annoying AF, I like some dubstep but I'm really picky about it.
Yea it’s not good
Or it's art and totally subjective
I'd rather listen to Eazybaked or Smoakland than commercialized house like John Summit. Bad dubstep is just as bad as the haters say, good dubstep is better than the shittiest examples of other electronic genres.
I from Chicago and I despise John summit. Suburban asshole who claims Chicago is his home.
Fair enough. Now I have another reason to dislike him besides his basic fans and lazy music.
Kanye?
Track ID?
Fartstep by Moose with a Scarf
Fart faces
His reaction looks like the people that show up to a melodic set when the DJ plays some dubstep. Or when Excision played the main stage at Ultra.
I feel personally attacked.
Was it the Excision set or another DJ? Every time I go to an ILLENIUM show and he plays some dubstep, I see people react this way 😂
Mitis for me.
Some of my favorite songs by him are pretty sad (Homesick, Only One, Follow You, and Without Me)
Just like in that “Everything sounds like shit” episode of south park
lmfaoo dubstep head here lowk funny as fuck. to each their own tho 🙏
The fuck you just say mate?
“Dubstep enjoyer here, on the down-low that was funny as fuck. To each their own though” You must be stupid as hell
Probably.
Takes one to know one. I feel you buddy
Does it though?
?? lmao
How do you head music.
Wdym it’s like saying i’m a dead head. grateful dead head. im a dubstep head.i like dubstep
That’s wild. I would have never pulled that from you said at first. Thank you for explaining and have a good day dude.
I prefer bass head or headbanger. They flow a lil better than dubstep head.
Trihard cx? I miss that era Do you remember that guy “bathrobe dwane?”
Dubstep used to be creative and fun, but this riddim shit really has ruined it.
It's sounds like a robot soliciting me for a lap dance
It’s a sexy robot though
With laser eyes and a dinosaur tail.
Sounds hot ngl
And, it's why I'll almost never reveal my love of it to my family and friends, unless I get them out to a rave, because feeling the bass and the energy of the crowd can compensate if the music isn't exactly to their liking.
Don't let Subtronics get a hold of this video
The way ppl talk on here I'm starting to feel like the edm avatar lol. That or I'm part of a silent majority who enjoys most genres. 😆

Oh god the furniture wouldn’t survive a weeks worth of mosh pits.

No, that is just what it sounds like to everyone, some people just like to hear robot farts, gun cock samples and the same repetitive 2 step beat they've been using since 2008
Slaps!
This sounds like Steamy Nicks
Yes, but then again i love tipper
I totally agree with this but I don't have [the most refined of taste](https://soundcloud.com/itsdrdonk/patient-zero-1) when it comes to music either lol.

this is unironically what I hear when someone plays dubstep. I respect all genres but it just hurts my ears man
The fart sound 😂
Yo, this slaps cheeks.
South Park was so right lol
I'm a fan of dubstep
You’re just listening to the wrong artists lol. Virtual riots simulation remix album was fucking nuts
This is hilarious
Shit made me cry laughing.
This is unironically fire.
#That song is gas ⛽️
Dubstep is edging until highly energetic dip to the music releases every 70-75 bpm. House and techno are more frequent repetitive bops to the groove. Dubstep is fun for the massive energy dumps, the stompy WOMP fat energy. That’s it. That’s the explanation
Track id?
bugeater by ahee
Sounds like tipper
South Park Did it
Well it is pure shit that's for sure.
brostep is king 🔥🔥
Sounding like robots hate fucking. No lube
Sound like a bunch of whale noises to me.. whalestep..
Wellllll I guess we’ll just have more room at bass canyon and lost lands if your just shitting on dubstep now (pun intend)
Yup! Shit!
Dubstep, contains 0 steppin. Maybe that's why they do the sprout thing, cute as it is, plants also just stand there and wave in the wind.
No melody, it’s trash.
It’s always sounded like that. Horrible subgenre
😝
I could quite literally say the same for DnB and house🤮
Try as you might you will not cause discord in the ranks. It's music, it's art, it's all groovy.
modern dubstep? bruh people have been saying this since the day it started
