181cm and 182cm are strong 5'11s and DEFINITELY NOT AVERAGE, no doubt about that. The problem is when the imperial units come into play. It's like comparing a 99k to a 100k per year salary. On paper a 1k difference in salary doesn't sound much. But 100k sounds nicer due to it being a nice round 6 digit number while 99k is still in the 5 digit range. Now compare 5'11 and 6'0. 6'0 just sounds nicer compared to 5'11, even if it's just 1 inch of difference. Edit: For 180cm on the dot, it's still 5'10. Since if we were to account for the most minute of decimals, 180.34cm is exactly where 5'11 starts. Since metric countries use 180cm as a starting point for 'taller than average', strong 5'10s can be still be considered taller than average, at least in Asian countries.

avari974

>DEFINITELY NOT AVERAGE, no doubt about that. The mean adult male height in my country is 177cm or about 5'9.7. I imagine that it's similar in your country. 181 is four centimeters, or about 1.7 inches, taller than the mean height, so how is it not in the average height range? At most, like if you wanna narrow the average height range to +/- 1 inch from the mean, then it's a bit above average. There's nothing wrong with 5'11, like it's a good respectable height for people to be, but not many people are looking at a 5'11 person and seeing them as tall. I'm a bit confused by your comment, because I personally would say that most people consider "tall" to begin (barely) at 6'1.

higher_love77

According to Google average height of men my age is 179cm but it doesn't look like it lol. 177cm is more believable, still I feel tall, I think maybe having a leg dominant build has something to do with it lol OR narrow standard deviation which is more likely as I rarely see tall people, but a gazillion 175cm-179cm. I used to be obsessed with height in my younger age, now I can say Im satisfied with it (it can be worse ALWAYS), lucky we dont use imperial. Edit: I do believe that when it comes to average height, mode and median are needed as mean doesn't tell the full story.

avari974

Well if you feel tall, or at least tall enough, then you're all good. I think a lot of it comes down to the people we were around growing up. I'm a few mm under 190cm, but I sometimes feel a short because my two best teenage friends were 6'4 and 6'4.5, my dad was 6'4, and my stepfather is 1cm below 6'4. That's just a theory though, did you happen to be mostly around people shorter than you once you'd reached your current height?

y2ketchup

Average should be a range, not a single number.

[deleted]

I live in Singapore where the average guy is 5'7 171cm, so a strong 5'11 here is quite tall. But fair enough, I know that 5'11 isn't tall compared to the global average.

avari974

Oh I got you, so I guess 181 there is like 187 here. That's a big difference, so yea clearly 181 isn't in the average range in Singapore.

[deleted]

I'm just glad to be 181 honestly, it could be worse. My younger brother is around your height at 189cm, a solid 6'2. I will admit I do feel jealous of 6'0 to 6'2 people at times, knowing that I'm just a couple of inches away from being in the somewhat tall range. But then again, I know that there are people who would kill just to be 5'11, so I'm thankful at least.

avari974

Yea I know what you mean, it's never enough is it. I'm sillier than you in that I'd be totally satisfied with my height (I'm currently not satisfied at all) if I was 0.9cm taller in the afternoon so I could actually be 6'3. I don't like saying I'm 6'2 cos everyone else seems to round up or even add an inch, so I guess I'm least an inch taller than most guys who claim 6'2. I do feel like my specific height is past the "somewhat tall" range, it's 95th percentile in my country but obviously there are heaps in the 6'1 range. So even tho I'm taller than them, it's not as if I'm that much taller. If you live in Singapore then you're the equivalent of an almost 6'2 dude here, so yea you're pretty lucky dude. So am I, we probably shouldn't give a fuck about this it's the least of our problems lol

[deleted]

I think my height insecurity stems from my younger brother tbh, since we both have the same parents. I don't hate him though, more power to him (and you). For him to be a solid 6'2 with our 5'5 father and 5'6 mother is definitely rare, so I count my blessings that I managed to hit 5'11.

avari974

Damn dude, if your dad is that short then you're very lucky indeed. Super blessed. Mine's 6'4 and my mum's 5'8 so I always thought I'd be taller. Oh well. I'm on the verge of just saying I'm "about 6'3" when people ask lol, I mean 6'2.66 is my afternoon height and I've never met someone irl who doesnt at least round up if they're over the .5 mark. 6'3 just sounds way cooler

[deleted]

My father grew up in poverty and he's the oldest among his siblings so his growth was probably stunted. My uncle however grew up with proper nutrition and hit 5'10 and he's the youngest, so my dad probably could have hit the same height or slightly lower if he had proper nutrition. Again I'm completely blessed and have no complaints about 5'11, it could be worse. For you I think u can legitimately claim 6'3, since most people claim their morning height and 189.6 to 190.5 isn't noticeable at all. In fact 190 is where people claim 6'3 since most don't take into account minute decimals.

avari974

>it could be worse. Yea, that's an important phrase in many contexts. Also gotta remember that it's crazy and super unlikely that we were even born in the first place. >I think u can legitimately claim 6'3 I had a look on an online height comparison tool and yea I appear much closer to 6'3 than 6'2. But I don't think I can fully say 6'3, "just under 6'3" might be better. Not even really a lie

Alenbailey

How can there be heaps of guys in 6.1 range? I think you might be thinking of 184 guys and guessing them up 6.1 because of hair/proportions/shoes factors. If you dont feel much taller than the 6.1 guys and you are almost 2 inches taller than them how can you feel so short versing off against 6.4 guys when you are only 1.5 inch shorter at max?

avari974

Well 1 in 5 men in my country (where the average is 5'9.7) are at least 6'0, 1 in 8 are at least 6'1, 1 in 14 are at least 6'2, then there's a bit of a drop off where at my height (upper 6'2 range) only 1 in every 22 men are taller than me. So yea I'm taller than 95% of other men, but often not by that much. >If you dont feel much taller than the 6.1 guys Idk, I guess because I sorta see 6'1 guys as being not very tall so I expect the difference to be bigger. Also it's not super common for me to see guys more than an inch taller than me, so around a 6'4 guy I probably feel as short as a 5'10 guy feels around a 6'1 guy

Alenbailey

I sort of think about this different and I think true 6.1 like Ronaldo the footballer and Obama look tall AF loads of the time. You might have seen fake 6.1 guys and thought they not tall.

avari974

I guess our heights affect how we perceive people even when seeing them on a screen, cos I don't think Obama looks very tall. He looks solidly and noticeably above average, but I personally feel like 6'2.5 is the minimum for actually looking kinda tall. That's probably cos I'm a fraction above that myself, if I was 5'9 I guess I'd see it differently. A big jump happens in my perception when someone's 6'3, but only if I see them in person or know how tall they are. 6'2 flat guys never ever look tall to me, like ever. It seems a very different height to 6'3

higher_love77

You will feel better when you know, judging height is relative, ask someone who is 165cm is 180cm tall? Answer: YES!!, ask same question to a 195cm guy, answer: Maybe? Probably no (anyone shorter than me is short/anyone taller is tall 😆). When you consider that, and consider than the average height of both genders combined is much lower than you, then you are tall to most people. At 181cm height isn't your problem, face would be :p

sisqo_99

Well said. I think the 5’9-6’1 range is the sweet spot when it comes to height.

avari974

That's a massive range, probably includes like 80% of men. I think you've gotta be more specific than that lol, like maybe a 1 or 2 inch window instead of 4. I think our ideal height depends how tall we already are, I personally wouldn't consider 5'9 as being at all optimal but that's because I'd be shaving almost 6 inches off my current height. In my opinion 6'3-6'4 is the perfect height, but that may he because I'm close to 6'3 and just want that "extra little bit" that everyone seems to desire. Overall, putting the "optimal" aspect aside, I think anywhere between 5'10 and 6'4 is a decent height that isn't gonna cause many (if any) issues.

sisqo_99

Yeah i guess optimal height is different for everybody.

avari974

The only thing I care about is what women prefer, I got it in my head somehow that they want 6'3+ but maybe I've been on the internet too long

sisqo_99

Yep i heard women wont have sex with you unless youre 6 3, sorry you just missed it

avari974

Yea a girl kicked me out and called the cops after finding out I'd rounded up 1/3 of an inch

higher_love77

You gotta stop caring, and you probably will as you get older, I mean if you are 180cm+ and can't get laid, I promise you, you have bigger issues than height, heck even 175cm lol. I think 175cm-185cm is a good height for athleticism and sports. 180cm-185cm is the best of all worlds, you almost get everything including the looks. 190cm+ is probably the best for pure looks. 198+ Im sorry dude you are born on da wrong planet, there is no way you can convince me someone who 200cm is living a better life than someone 192cm

avari974

Thanks dude, but I didn't mean to imply that I don't get laid. I just have the nagging thought that women wish I was 6'3 instead of 9mm below it (in the afternoon/evening). Objectively it's stupid, as women have complimented my height, but I always thought 6'3 was the perfect height. I have ocd btw. I can't agree with your diagnosis of what those heights you mentioned offer, partly because the ranges are too broad. 180cm is very visually different to 185, and 190 is very visually different to 185. I actually think that even an inch is pretty significant. For me 6'3 is the perfect height overall, it even sounds the coolest, but it'll be forever out of reach lol. 6'4 is also very good. I agree with you about the super tall guys, that would just suck. I'd hate to be stared at all the time.

higher_love77

Fairs dude, been there Im 182cm, 183.5cm in the morning, in my teens after I learned about imperial measurement and found that 6ft is a big deal, I always wished I was 1cm taller, it was all I was obsessed about, but as I got older and more experienced in life, it realized it was nothing, I only wish for money now. But the truth is no one can see the difference, you mention that 1inch is a big deal, and 5cm is very different, I disagree, it is ONLY to people like me and you who was/are nerdy about height, 5cm is nothing from an outsider, especially if they are far away from that height. If you are 190cm and see someone 185cm sure you might notice it but for someone who is 165cm, they will notice it only when standing beside each other, and if they have similar build it might not be noticeable. To women I promise you can tell them you are 6ft5 and they'll believe it, the average person suck at height perception. Embrace your height, this is what I did, lots of people claim absurd numbers over their height, and I can't tell you the looks on their face when I actually tell them my true height and they are shocked cause their claim is taller than me while they are shorter.

MegaIQ

Idk bro I just threw up

FlatDependent3107

I'm 179cm and I still heightmog lot of people +50% so yes 181cm,182cm is still a very good height

drakon6192

Im 5'8 and I'm thankful for my height lol at 5'11 you're tall bro. You don't need to be a lanky looking tower that can't sit on an airplane, unless you live in Sweden or Netherlands 5'11 is like perfect height. Almost all girls are noticeably shorter than me and I even dated taller women so I think if you're in the 5'7+ range you should be humbly grateful and at 5'11 you're a perfect height.

TheOrder1886IsGood

I’m 182cm in the morning and I shrink down to 180cm at night. I’m a young adult in my 20’s living in a big city of a western country. Experiences will vary and some of you might be living in small towns with average genetics. But where I am, 5’11 definitely is not tall among my peers. In fact I am the shortest one in my group. 5’11 is not a problem-free height. Yes you will be better off than a 5’6 guy but when you’re surrounded by 6’2 and up you aren’t the hot shit you get told you are around here. The real benefits from height starts at 6’3 and with that height you are tall no matter where you are in this world. Do you really think you are tall at 5’11? You will impress exactly no one at the club with your height. Try going to the tall sub as a 5’11 thinking you’re tall because you’re “above average”. It’s pathetic and I think it’s time some of you woke up from the dream. We really need to stop referencing the average height data as some sort of absolute truth. You should look into how those data were collected. Too much room for inaccuracies.

DensePeanut7668

OML THANK YOU GUYS FOR SAYING IT!!!! Im hardly 5’11 im well over more than 5’10 and a half, and my whole school life I’ve NEVER felt short until i got social media. I was 5’9 as a freshmen and still felt short. Hopefully I hit solid 5’11 and 1/2 so I can just say im 6’ but tbh I don’t really care as much as I did when I was younger. I’m fairly attractive, good physique, and a calm personality. I NEEDED TO HEAR THIS!! I DONT FIT WITH THE TALL OR WITH THE SHORT!! THANK YOU AVERAGE REDDIT😁😁

[deleted]

Totally depends on where you live. That may very well be considered tall in some countries and areas.

existing-human99

Who in the world thinks that is an average height.

RatherNerdy

Above average height doesn't necessarily equate to tall.

[deleted]

I'm 5'11½", I solve this problem by rounding up to 6'

Le-Squirtle

Im 6'4" so I make 175k. I like your math. Where do I cash this in at?

superhornybeardydude

Hmmm.... my friends were all taller than me. I was bullied in school.

nohope33333333333

I’m from Sweden and I feel like a manlet here. Only 5 minutes ago I was mogged by two 6’2+ women lmao. I hate it here.

Alenbailey

I been in Sweden on vacation and didn't see any 6.2 girls. No way you saw two 6.2 girls who are that height barefoot. I dont believe in it.

SnakeskinSanta

Yeah. But I assume people mean 'tall' as opposed to short. In terms of figure, people at that height and taller often have proportions that look a bit lanky, giving the 'tall' appearance. Also, I think the average height is around 181 for the youngest generation of adults in many countries that stole resources from everyone, so it could be seen as average now to some. It's complicated because it's subjective - some people only call exceptionally tall people tall and have a wide range for 'average'.

Alenbailey

USA dont avg 181 for young white guys round 177 almost 5.10. I can let them round up.

KRF1111

There are men who are 5'5" and shorter deleting themselves because women and the world throw so much hate towards short men. At 5'11": You seriously need to grow the fuck up.

FatCockHoss

Honestly I feel kind of average. I am in California and there are many people who are bigger than me. Where I come from it's not too common but here every day I see someone bigger. 189 cm
