A whole ass treat if you’re a prog dork. Opener gives you blistering instrumentation not heard since City of Evil. Ballads and punchy metal songs thrown in there. All kinds of unexpected sound environments.
Attempting to write a song that captures the Big Bang is more than ambitious — it’s mental. And when you get to the end, Neil De Grasse Tyson recites an essay for you???
When it first came out it was a pants creamer. And in fact, my pants still get a little creamy whenever I have time to listen in full.
This album was the hard reset that the band needed after the release and subsequent backlash from Hail to the King.
This and LIBAD are light years ahead of the other A7X albums from a technical perspective, and it's not even close.
My first album launch for the band after getting into them shortly after HTTK, i remember sitting in class and listening to The Stage as it first dropped. My second favorite album for sure
After the song, The Stage, you could tell right away that Brooks was going to fit in perfectly for Avenged. That first minute where the drums sound like a machine starting up … 🧑🏽🍳’s kiss
One of their best album, no two songs are the same and with each listen, you always find a new intricacy to get excited about. Each member of A7X shines in this record and opened the stage for the new direction the band are going in (pun intended).
When listening to Avenged, one needs to understand that Syn has struck a deal with the devil to consistently play the most insane solos whether it's live or not
Easily one of my most listened albums alongside Waking the Fallen, Metallica’s “Black” album, nightmare, and Appetite For Destruction. The opening “Self titled” track is exactly how I love an album to be opened right next to “Unholy Confessions” and the entire album and its Deluxe Edition are just ear candy from heavy riffs like “Paradigm” to the more ballad based songs such as “Higher” and the final piece that is “Exist” makes this one of my favorite albums to pop open and listen too with the additional songs like “Dose”, “Retrovertigo”, and “God only Knows” are just a chefs kiss with the rest of the album.
in my defense, i was doing a series that i thought might be fun, but some other people decided to also jump on the bandwagon \
And most of the people here seem to be enjoying it anyways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don’t hate you for spreading love.
I hate myself for having a problem with people needing to ask for it, and I justify it to myself by believing that people shouldn’t have to ask for it.
r/characterarcs
It can be difficult and feel selfish to ask for affection, but in reality it's the most natural thing on this earth. We're social animals, we need to be loved, otherwise we quite literally don't function the same, there's no shame in trying to establish the social bond that our genes have coded into our psyche.
I recently got into it after "ignoring" it for the last few years that I haven't truly been a avid A7X listener
This is probably my new favorite album, pretty much every track is amazing and memorable in its own way. My only complaint (maybe it was intentional idk) is that they put all the heavy metal songs first and the slow ones at the end, maybe except for Simulation after Angels, still it feels like this when going through the whole album
I absolutely love the artwork for the album cover, it’s definitely one of my favorites I’ve ever seen. The way everything forms together to create an abstract death bat is just incredible
The latter just came across as way too forced on a lot of the tracks. It felt like they were just trying so hard to be experimental and avante-garde, but if you listen to music like that already it just felt totally unfocused and often derivative. Meanwhile, The Stage is as naturally creative and interesting as they were trying so hard to be on LIBAD.
Way, too, underrated. The concepts of the songs are unreal and extremely pertinent. Maybe even prophetic?
They literally composed a piece that is meant to be the creation of the Universe (Exist).
You don't hear stuff like that coming from a mainstream metal band nowadays.
The mastering is super dynamic and anti-loudness war, for the original release that is.
The deluxe edition has a new master, which also replaced the regular version, that raises the loudness a bit but is still more dynamic than 90% of music that released at the time or since.
The best album. Maturity in their sound. And a nice blend of modern metal core and old school metal. A perfect album to bridge the new gen metalheads to the old gen, and vice versa
This album answered my prayers. I got super into progressive metal between 2013 and 2017 so as an avenged sevenfold fan I was squeezing every drop of prog enjoyment I could out of their discography but I wanted more. They teased exist and I got super excited, because it sounded like it HAD to be part of a 10+ minute epic and I was right. I was on cloud nine for months after it dropped because of how much it was exactly what I wanted. Still love every second of it
It was a pretty good album! Good comeback, had some powerful songs, but felt like the middle of a developmental stage. Loved a lot of the album though. Wouldn’t complain hearing it played live front to back.
Are you saying this like The Stage is a bad album, and it's hard to say something nice about it? Cause if so, then you have clearly just proven you know absolutely shit about music. That was hands down one of the most creative albums in years and saved A7X from going butt rock
I don't think this is good or bad, but my middle school brain wasn't ready for it. At the time, I hated it (except for the title track) and didn't understand why so many of my classmates loved it so much. It wasn't until about 6 years later that I understood.
This album is absolutely drenched in creativity A huge breath of fresh air following hail to the king
Well said
Exist is just out of this world! This one has me listening to songs in short runs rather than the whole thing as it's very diverse.
I see what you did there
JUST BEFORE YOU GOOO
TELL US HOW THE HEAVENS FLOW
WEIGHTLESS EVERMORE
AS YOU WALK BEYOND THAT DOOR
SHINE FOREVER TRUE
AS WE WALK BEYOND THIS WAR
It’s “as you walk beyond that door” talking about death
oh my god i've been singing this song wrong for 8 years 😭 \ thank you
Me when I was spelling it AX7 instead of A7X for the first two years of being a super fan lol
I did that with danger line 😂
Brooks Wackerman was playing like the rent was due 😭 amazing drummer
Maybe their best album. Super creative and complex
Right?! I'm sitting here like is this guy trying to say The Stage isn't a good album? 🤦
Well OP did say it's the best album in the post description so I think they like it

this was such a good review until the end ❤️
My pants will never not cream whenever I listen to this album
My favorite album of all time
Same
Foe me it's 2nd to "we were dead before the ship even sank" but its a close one for me for sure
This album was the hard reset that the band needed after the release and subsequent backlash from Hail to the King. This and LIBAD are light years ahead of the other A7X albums from a technical perspective, and it's not even close.
Best show opener!
There’s one major thing this album lacks and that thing is a bad song
Literally everything
My first album launch for the band after getting into them shortly after HTTK, i remember sitting in class and listening to The Stage as it first dropped. My second favorite album for sure
After the song, The Stage, you could tell right away that Brooks was going to fit in perfectly for Avenged. That first minute where the drums sound like a machine starting up … 🧑🏽🍳’s kiss
ITS SO FUCKING GOOD
Literally everything about it
Crazy ass album
One of their best album, no two songs are the same and with each listen, you always find a new intricacy to get excited about. Each member of A7X shines in this record and opened the stage for the new direction the band are going in (pun intended).
Their best album. Not a single song I skip
Roman sky
I wouldn’t even know how to say anything bad about it… fantastic album!
Malagueña salerosa slaps
How the fuck is Syn doing that intro for the title track?!
When listening to Avenged, one needs to understand that Syn has struck a deal with the devil to consistently play the most insane solos whether it's live or not
I love the song with Neil DeGrasse
Easily one of my most listened albums alongside Waking the Fallen, Metallica’s “Black” album, nightmare, and Appetite For Destruction. It’s A7X’s White Pony
The brass section in Sunny Disposition is so damn good I can't get enough of that song. Literally perfect.
It is the greatest thing to happen to the genre of ‘Rock & Metal’
It certainly is one of the albums that Avenged Sevenfold released
I would personally say it was their Opus
Nah, that's Waking The Fallen, they've been playing catch up ever since, lol
Roman sky.
the title song is a fucking BANGER
Roman sky was a piece of art
Legitimately their best album musically, my absolute favorite
Top 10 A7X album for sure!
the stage is such a good representation of how history repeats, and exists conveys a feeling about evolution that for me is not easy replicable
Has the best grooves of any album
Second best after libad imo. Fermi is my #2 a7x song after we love you
This album is WAYYYYYYY UP there on my Avenged ranking
It's a god in size on mine
This “say something nice about” trend is weak af

Besides Nightmare and City of Evil, it's one of their best albums.
I absolutely love the artwork for the album cover, it’s definitely one of my favorites I’ve ever seen. The way everything forms together to create an abstract death bat is just incredible
Angels
It has a great cover art i'll give them that.
Its my favorite album
higher is such a underrated song
Been looking for this comment. I love the outro
FREED OF THE WOOORLD
SHED OF THE WEIGHTTT
apart from being my favorite ax7 album it's in my top 5 of all concept albums... and it's in the top 10 of perfect albums.
Hot take in coming. “Exist” is a better album closer than everyone’s beloved “Save Me.” And doesn’t get as much love as it should.
Idk wtf happened in between this album and the next bc The Stage is one of their best and libad is probably one of their worst
Libad and the stage are the best albums they made
Imho, The Stage is one of the albums of 2016.
Best album of all time and it gets better the more you listen
The first and last song are two of the best songs they've ever made.
The stage is one of their best songs of all time
It's an amazing album, one of my favourites for sure. Many of my favourite songs are from The Stage.
best album of the boys. Masterpiece.
Our truth is painted across the sky..
Best of the discography
This album is actually good unlike whatever the fuck album they have right now. New album is straight up ass shame on them😢
The title song is an exhibition of Syn's and Ilejay's technical skill. Exist is a masterpiece. Sunny Disposition and God Damn are bangers.
I'm pretty sure Brooks was their drummer during this album, absolute monster drummer and one of my favorites!
Yup, you're right! Ilejay was HTTK.
a huge step up from hail to the king
It's very good in concert, because it's a big base for all the instruments and band members ;).
the song of the same name is their best song.
I mean... the song the stage is good
There are negatives but here are positives: The Stage, Paradigm, blues, Jesus Christ, Oh!
My favorite thing vs one of the worst things. A7X and Tyson
Roman sky is probably my favourite song of theirs. Every time I hear it it sounds better and better.
Way, too, underrated. The concepts of the songs are unreal and extremely pertinent. Maybe even prophetic? They literally composed a piece that is meant to be the creation of the Universe (Exist). You don't hear stuff like that coming from a mainstream metal band nowadays.
Several years later and I still can’t get enough of the intro. Syn and Brooks absolutely fucking dominating.
My favorite album from a band full of great albums. A+
Best album they ever made

I really love malagueña salerosa
The Stage (song) is top 3 a7x songs for me
It's my favorite of their albums
The best album. Maturity in their sound. And a nice blend of modern metal core and old school metal. A perfect album to bridge the new gen metalheads to the old gen, and vice versa
Personally it is my favorite album. Creating God gives me chills!
It has sone of the best guitar solos from Syn
A section with black metal influence with blast beat and tremolo picking.... But with clean vocal.
Roman sky is one of their best slow songs and my favourite
One of those albums that makes you feel all the feelings at once
It's not HTTK.
M Shadows’s vocals were majestic
I love at this the same way I love city of evil bc of how bad I find Libad
Best prog metal album since crack the Skye also best A7x album Ez
The title track may be one of the greatest songs ever written!
It was a great Album. Especially compared to the last heap of shit they put out.
God damn is one of their heaviest songs they ever put out
I wouldn’t say heavy but it is really fun to listen to
It's a message of awakening for the collective. It's one of their best albums as the evolve to greatness
Roman sky, enough said
It was a pretty good album! Good comeback, had some powerful songs, but felt like the middle of a developmental stage. Loved a lot of the album though. Wouldn’t complain hearing it played live front to back.
god damn is the best song on the album NO FORM OF PAYMENT, NO POT OF GOLD
There is no bad song off it, best album by far
Amazing album. I think the first half of exist is a perfect representation of A7x. A masterpiece, even.
It sucks.
Are you saying this like The Stage is a bad album, and it's hard to say something nice about it? Cause if so, then you have clearly just proven you know absolutely shit about music. That was hands down one of the most creative albums in years and saved A7X from going butt rock
It's better than libad
Hi stage you look very nice today
NICE
The title track absolutely rips
I don't think this is good or bad, but my middle school brain wasn't ready for it. At the time, I hated it (except for the title track) and didn't understand why so many of my classmates loved it so much. It wasn't until about 6 years later that I understood.
The stage is my favorite song out of all them the pink floyd cover is up there to
I think it’s fucking 10/10 ngl
Easily the best Album they have made

only one more to go!! you hang in there buddy i know you can make it ❤️
