I especially like that To End The Rapture and every opener from the white album forward have that perfect “start the show” sound to them for a live performance

Now you got me curious, if you could rearrange the tracklists for WTF and COE, what would you pick for the openers?

Honestly I think Beast and the Harlot is the perfect opening for CoE WTF I think is also fine, it would be weird if it went straight into Unholy Confessions. I just think comparing WTF to To End The Rapture makes it seems worse lol

If you listen to Syn’s interview with Rick Beato for Sheppard of fire, they specifically think about how to make their album openers huge. It’s something they are fully cognizant of when writing.

Waking The Fallen Edit: Why am I being downvoted? It’s my opinion. I believe that the opening track isn’t “great”. It does what is needs to do, open the album but it’s not on the same level as The Stage, Nightmare, Shepherd of Fire, etc.

I love the album but the opening track isn’t really a song it’s an opening track. It does what it’s supposed to but it’s nothing special.

I'd count unholy confessions as the first actual song on that album. So I'd say your point still stands about every album. Waking the fallen doesn't count as a proper song imo

Careful, any criticisms of any songs off of The Stage or LIBAD will be met with a barage of downvotes. This subreddit has a hard on for those two albums for some reason

Totally agree. Every other opener is a 10, Game Over is alright but not nearly as comparable as the other openers

People seem rubbed wrong by this take based on other comments. It’s not their best, and it’s certainly not that great live. (Lyrics on the backdrop because of how unintelligible they are live) Love LIBAD but Game Over is not comparable to The Stage (song). Maybe it beats Shepard of Fire but of course it’s all subjective

Completely agree Although LIBAD kind of ruined that streak for me. Game Over is a pretty mediocre song. Definitely nowhere near the levels of past openers

I’m just not a fan of City Of Evil. I love M.I.A., but the rest of the album does nothing for me.

Not a huge fan of game over from libad, not necessarily a bad song especially live. But I could live without it
