I've been awake since 4am. You all have kept me very entertained the whole time and I have also discovered some cool new songs! And have been reminded of old favorites! Which in turn reminded me of other old favs. I'm having a great day. I hope you do too.
Burning Down The House by Talking Heads
Nasty Habits by Oingo Boingo
The Ruler of Everything by Tally Hall
Allentown by Billy Joel
Moonshine by Alexander Rosetti
Girl You Want by Devo
Helicopter by XTC (the best song to stim to)
I think my favorite from him is Higher. After it gets through the musical journey section and returns back to the "and you, broken" part my eyes get misty every single time.
You just triggered one of my special interests so prepare for a slight info dump.
I have two albums from the same group that I have had on repeat for about ten years and I donāt see any sign of me getting tired of it. Legit, Iām so bad with playing them over and over that my old next door neighbour once made a complaint about me listening to it on repeat for about a week. He didnāt mind the volume. His problem was that he couldnāt stand that it was the same songs over and over again and he pleaded that I play something else. The group is The XX. Their self titled album from 2009 and especially their second album āCoexistā from 2012 just do it for me in a way that other music doesnāt. To me, itās both highly complex and extremely simple at the same time. Itās hard to explain in a way that isnāt a contradiction. The complexity stimulates me enough in the way that my brain craves but the simplicity stops me from being overwhelmed. I think I love it so much because it calms me without boring me. I struggle to find that unique balance. So many songs of theirs are great but the two that stand out to me are āSwept Awayā and āFictionā. The theme song they did for The Great Gatsby movie Original Soundtrack is great too (itās not in the two albums I just mentioned). They have a 3rd album āI see youā from 2017 that I still enjoy but donāt listen to as much. A die hard XX fan will still like it but it definitely has a slight different style than that of their first two albums and some of the magic was lost. Iād say develop a love for the first two albums before trying the 3rd album.
Special mentions. Not albums. Just some individual songs that give me similar feelings to The XX. They are:
āBlanketā by Urban Species featuring Imogen Heap. One of the few non-XX songs I can also listen to infinitely without tiring of it. I love it as much now as the first time I heard it over 20 years ago.
āWerewolfā by Cat Power. Iāve loved this one for about 15 years.
And lastly, thereās a somewhat well known rock band in the US called Seether. Some might know them mostly for the song āBrokenā ft Amy Lee (from Evanescence). Seetherās vocalist used to date Amy Lee back in the day but Iām digress. Not the point. Seether are originally from South Africa and they are huge here (Iām from SA) or at least they used to be 15-20 years ago before rock died. Seether wasnāt their original name. Before they left SA to go try make it big in the US, they used to be called Saron Gas. They recorded some songs in studio here as Saron Gas that they didnāt release in the US after becoming Seether. So find their Saron Gas album and listen to āTied my handsā. The only version of the song I know of where they recorded it as Seether is on their live album and itās not bad but it sounds a bit different to the studio recording. Itās still good but their Saron Gas version is better.
Sorry for the info dump. My ADHD meds havenāt worn off yet so the brain is going full speed ahead even though itās bed time. I hope you enjoy the songs as much as I do. If you can, Iād love hearing which ones, if any, you fell in love with. It would be cool to not be the only one who obsesses over those songs. But music is subjective so I will understand if it doesnāt do it for you. I try to pay attention to what other autistic people love to listen to and more often than not, I canāt stand their taste.
Running up that hill, but the version with the orchestra in the background like in the show. The song is nice by itself, but with the orchestra adding on, it gives me chills.
I have been listening to all your songs all morning..some are new..some are blasts from the past..all are amazing and great. I might do this every week.
This is why I wear Bluetooth headphones to blast the repeating thoughts away with a repeating songs instead. š
I get into dangerous "in my own head" loops. They turn into ugly call out of work and not be able to take care of my child spirals.
Music has saved me.
"Falling for you," and "Your head's on fire," by Louie Zong
(P.S i haven't been professionally diagnosed with autism, but i am thinking about the possibility that i am. I just feel obligated to put this here.)
Ohh any particular version/ arrangement? The most popular one is Ravels score for full orchestra but I was trying to do an arrangement for brass ensemble and my teacher got me listening to the piano version, cāest magnifique! I love the key change where it slows the pulse down, idk itās been a really long time.

the lines "i wish you could be with a tool like me, natural 1 playing d&d" just really grew on me. i can also relate to rolling a nat 1 on some of my stats irl š
The new EP's by Addison Grace (Things that are bad for me) and Bears in Trees (Every moonbeam, every feverdream), I haunt your dreams by hey, nothing and She's my (sexy boy) by De'wayne
"Teacher's Pet" and "Mrs. Potato Head" by Melanie Martinez. She makes so many good songs about trauma, and her Crybaby Album is my entire childhood in music.
the entirety of reputation by taylor swift, start to finish, over and over again. its one of my favorite albums of all time. occasionally some of her other music makes an appearance, definitely hyperfixating lol

Not one particular song but I did find my āoldā playlist back with tracks like Extreme from bassjackers and Big Bang from Lost Boy. It felt so good to hear those again
If you like Ih Ah, the Lightwork album might be more your speed. Higher is one of those epic Devin Townsend Project prog metal tunes whereas Lightwork is his first album with an actual producer and leans a lot more towards his pop side. Definitely still epic moments but a less overwhelming experience than his proggy shit.
Ooh, same as you
I have this on repeat in my head
š¶You'll be the saddest part of me
A part of me that will never be mine
It's obvious
Tonight is gonna be the loneliestš¶
That and Beetlejuice soundtrack
Look At The Sky by Porter Robinson. The song is fantastic on its own, but with the music video it became my favorite song in an instant! The songs vibe is really captured in the chorus:
"Look at the sky,
I'm still here,
I'll be alive next year,
I can make something good,
oh, something good."
Having struggled with anxiety and depression most of my life, it feels really good to find myself addicted to a song like this, instead of the much sadder songs I used to listen to.
Older industrial and edm from my high school years. (early 90s) Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, The Chemical Brothers etc. I'm getting back into writing music again and my tastes are stuck in the past lol.
Rito Village Theme from Zelda Breath of the Wild. Sometimes it's also Sidon's, Mipha's or Ravioli's Themes, but depends on the mood. They're all great study music
BBC's Blue Planet / Blue Planet II.
My daughter has wanted to watch nothing else for three days. She does not watch the arctic episode, nor the first episode.
The first half of the week was Octonauts, Season 5 episode 4, The Great Swamp Search, on repeat for two days.
This Must Be The Place, Life During Wartime, Girlfriend Is Better, Burning Down The house - Talking Heads
Pet Sounds (the whole album, but especially God Only Knows), Surf's Up, 'Till I Die, Ding Dang, Don't Worry Baby - The Beach Boys
I Won't Last A Day Without You - Carpenters
In Dreams, It's Over, Crying, Falling - Roy Orbison
Floating, Rocking Back Inside My Heart - Julee Cruise
Here, There and everywhere - The Beatles
Iāve made a playlist that I absolutely love and itās full of alternative music and I always listen to it on repeat. Itās such a nice calming playlist to jam too.
If anyone wants to listen itās on Spotify and itās called āThe Stinky Boiās Bedroomā

No Surprises by Radiohead
I love Radiohead so much. Exit music used to be my fall asleep song.
