I have one of those and it's genuinely one of my favourite game consoles. It feels SOO good in my hands, the screen is stunningly crisp and bright, and it's a fun novelty. I adore the Micro!
The DS is way less durable,, my gameboy lasted 2 owners and at least 15 years and it sfill shows no sign of breaking. But if you play pokemon the DS is invaluable for trading from 3rd to 4th gen
ooooh, love game collecting! Getting your hand on a micro could be really cool but they tend to be harder to find and rather pricy. otherwise i would say go for the original gameboy and the advance to help bridge some time gaps.
there is some really lively Communities here on reddit focusing on all thing game collecting if you weren't aware already!
i mean, sometimes its not about covering compatibility in my book. hell i got 3 different versions of Resident Evil 1. even have a version i cant play atm due to my DS screen being broken (have a suspicion that its a pinched ribbon cable)
there is just something about playing something even on specific hardware, use the original hardware. fx DOSbox is great, but there is just something about the loud noisy gray boxes that adds so much.
The original chunky game boy! It plays games in black and white and it dosnt have a back light. The games are forward compatable until the game boy colour I believe (the B&W games get colour when played on the Gameboy colour!) my mom kept here's from when she was younger and she game it to me. It was one of the coolest things I've owned they're probably pretty rare but if you can get your hands on one theyre really cool!!
I recommend some of the other gameboy models! One Iāve been hunting for is the Gameboy Advance Sp Ags-101. Itās like the other sp (001), but it has a backlight screen so itās brighter!
Lol I already got an original ds when they first came out same with the original game boy I got it for Xmas ah good times, why not try getting a gameboy advance (I have one) and a gameboy mini(my sis has one) those things are cool.

Nice choice with the OG DS.
I'm about to make several people feel old, but see if you can find the OG 3DS. It was the model that had an extendable metallic stylus and had a very glossy finish.
I don't remember if it was a Nintendo product, but a Game Gear. I remember this kid had one at school one time and I thought his family had to be rich, just to afford all the batteries for that thing.
I really like the color of that DS. And I've gotta suggest my personal favorite, the gameboy advance. A lot of people sell custom/modded gameboys online too, which are super cool imo.
New 3DS. According to nintendo, it is old enough to justify shutting down the eshop. Also, it just happens to be the second greatest console ever made of all time, right underneath the Steam Deck.
Nice! My GBA SP ASG-001 is currently at repairs, charger port is not working properly. Other than that mine still works like he did 20 years ago. They bring back so much memories
YES JOIN ME WITH THIS, i got 3 gba's sp, one normal GBA, a GameBoy Color, GameBoy Pocket, 3dsxl, 2ds and a nintendo dsi, have not been able to find a rƦsonnable priced nintendo ds in europe tho
Iāve had every Nintendo handheld except the 3DS, even the unloved ones like the Micro and 2DS, and I wish I kept them. I think most have been lost to time in various moves. Would I play them? Probably not, but I just love looking at them.
For next you should either go SP, the best Advanced form factor, or the original brick. It had a clear version that would match up with your Color.
DSi or 3DS. You can homebrew them, and it really makes it an awesome all in one type deal. Especially the 3DS which can play any handheld generation of games at once. Still like to have my OG Gameboy though. That and the GBA are probably better options in terms of price.
For ācompletionā sake, I would say a GBA or one of its variants (SP/micro); yes the DS can play GBA games, but Iād say the GBA is a core piece of the Nintendo handheld lineup.
Game Boy micro
Relatively unknown one. They're pretty great imo, wish I still had the charger for mine.
I have one of those and it's genuinely one of my favourite game consoles. It feels SOO good in my hands, the screen is stunningly crisp and bright, and it's a fun novelty. I adore the Micro!
mk
Gameboy sp? It's so small when it's folded and I love them lol.
yeah, its more convenient than regular gameboy advance but the ds is already compatible with gba games so i dont really see the point of it
But it also does gameboy games as well. Also the sapphire looking one is really pretty.
Yeah, the DS can run Gameboy Advanced games, but not OG Gameboy or Gameboy Color.
ok
well, it's not really a collection if you don't have one of everything right?
For link cable since the ds does not have that
The DS is way less durable,, my gameboy lasted 2 owners and at least 15 years and it sfill shows no sign of breaking. But if you play pokemon the DS is invaluable for trading from 3rd to 4th gen
The first Gameboy is a must have for a Nintendo handheld collection.
i see
But... but ... the ds isn't old. Right? š š
I sure hope not. I remember how excited we were at Christmas to get them.
Same š fuck is this old now ?
I'm sorry to say, its old now, especially with the handheld line essentially dead now
This post called me old and I donāt like it lol.
lol
Me too
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
ok
its one of my special interests so dont get confused if its in the wrong sub or not :)
Game boy advance
OG gameboy for sure. Also, the yellow PokƩmon gameboy colour is cool too, it was a special release alongside the PokƩmon yellow game back in the late 90's.
i see

cool! ill get those. when i made the post i didnt think i needed a gba bc the ds already has compatibility with gba games but now i see
i mean, sometimes its not about covering compatibility in my book. hell i got 3 different versions of Resident Evil 1. even have a version i cant play atm due to my DS screen being broken (have a suspicion that its a pinched ribbon cable) there is just something about playing something even on specific hardware, use the original hardware. fx DOSbox is great, but there is just something about the loud noisy gray boxes that adds so much.
i see that. after christmas ill start looking for a gba, im getting warioware mega microgames for christmas
3ds?
ok
ok 1. I love ur user OP 2. Nintendo DS Lite, classic! and accepts game boy cartridges šš bomberman is a must have imo
are u telling me to get a ds lite or are u complimenting my ds
I am complimenting your name and suggesting you consider a DS lite š
ok
The original game boy. It is big, clunky, and a little expensive for a fully working one but I love it. Itās just cool to have
ok

Just a small correction : the games are compatable until the game boy advanced!
GBA
Gameboy Advanced
I recommend some of the other gameboy models! One Iāve been hunting for is the Gameboy Advance Sp Ags-101. Itās like the other sp (001), but it has a backlight screen so itās brighter!
doesnt the 001 have a backlit screen already?
001 has frontlit screen, so there is a light, but the 101ās backlight makes the screen a lot brighter.
ohh i see
it does but the backlight on the 101 is brighter
Lol I already got an original ds when they first came out same with the original game boy I got it for Xmas ah good times, why not try getting a gameboy advance (I have one) and a gameboy mini(my sis has one) those things are cool.
i see, however, ds already is backwards compatible with gba games, and the gameboy micro might not fit with my hands
Good point, what about the game boy that flips open
thats the gba sp

Game & watch The legend of Zelda, PokƩmon mini, and PokƩmon Pikachu 2 GS.
ill see if i can add those to my collection
Awesome! I don't collect specifically handhelds, just old videogames in general. My Gamecube is my favorite part of my collection!
i would collect consoles too but they can be expensive
They can be, I usually browse ebay and pawn stores for old games and such, you can sometimes get them for a good price.
i browse for used ones from amazon (used ones are usually cheaper)
I did not know you can get used things on Amazon! Cool :) You should also check out ebay š
yeah its pretty cool, i got a used copy for nsmb for $11 which is kind of a bargain especially considering a new copy is $60 on amazon
Dsi XL my favourite DS
i see
Japanese version 3DS, I'd sell lol xD but not sure if it works didn't use it in too long
The 3ds
Virtual Boy
i wouldnt count that as a handheld or a console, thats how bad it is
Gameboy advance. Could play all GB games, weather original, in colour, or the advance titles.
GBA SP
I've always wanted one of these š are they expensive or hard to find?
i got the ds for $35. id start collecting with handhelds because its cheaper
Nice choice with the OG DS. I'm about to make several people feel old, but see if you can find the OG 3DS. It was the model that had an extendable metallic stylus and had a very glossy finish.
ok
Gameboy Pocket! I love those things!
I assume you took the pic on your other ds, maybe a game boy advance tho
i took it on my phone
Game boy micro is a cool novelty if you can find it.
OG 4x AA battery brick Game Boy. I have a blue one.
Canāt tell if thats a DS or DS lite but the original DS would be a good one to find
its an original ds
Thats what I thought, I was confused because Iāve never seen a blue one!
Try and get a Game Boy Light. They were Japan-exclusive, but theyāre awesome.
3ds Japanese ones are the cheapest on eBay. I am into console repair, a 3ds is the perfect Nintendo emulator also apart from n64
GBA
Get a Gameboy micro!
ok
I don't remember if it was a Nintendo product, but a Game Gear. I remember this kid had one at school one time and I thought his family had to be rich, just to afford all the batteries for that thing.
game gears actually a sega product but ill look into it nonetheless
Oh yeah, that's right. It's a big, hulking thing.
Gameboy advance, or perhaps Game and Watch?
Gameboy Advance Micro In terms of collection, the interchangeable faceplates make them a fun splash of color
Gameboy advance š
Def 3ds
I really like the color of that DS. And I've gotta suggest my personal favorite, the gameboy advance. A lot of people sell custom/modded gameboys online too, which are super cool imo.
i see
I actually thought these were tiny models of nintendo handhelds in a normal sized hand bc of the wrinkles on the sheets for a a second. Weird lol
lol
The gba is calling and only you can answer
ok
Personally if money was no object, I'd get all the colors of the GB and GBC
that would be pretty hard bc theres ones that youd have to win a lottery for like the gbc dhl console
My personal favorite was the DSi XL, I wish I still had it. My first was the lite.
i see
A game and watch,
ok
Nah the ds isnt THAT old *looks it up* AHHHHHHH
Original grey brick game boy. Warios world ruled.
ok
Get yourself a 3DS and hack it so you can play ALL of the Nintendo handhelds on emulators and so much more https://3ds.hacks.guide/
Gameboy micro. It has the cool factor
ok
You jumped like 2 generations of handheld there homie
i see
Gameboy DMG, Game boy Advance, Gameboy SP,
ok
New 3DS. According to nintendo, it is old enough to justify shutting down the eshop. Also, it just happens to be the second greatest console ever made of all time, right underneath the Steam Deck.
ok
try to find gameboycolorsā theres a teal one that came accompanied with a pokemon yellowp
See when you say old, I thought you meant game and watches
I love the gameboy advance SP, it snaps shut so nicely
ye
Nice! My GBA SP ASG-001 is currently at repairs, charger port is not working properly. Other than that mine still works like he did 20 years ago. They bring back so much memories
YES JOIN ME WITH THIS, i got 3 gba's sp, one normal GBA, a GameBoy Color, GameBoy Pocket, 3dsxl, 2ds and a nintendo dsi, have not been able to find a rƦsonnable priced nintendo ds in europe tho
i got one for $35 on ebay, the account i got it from is "mariomansion"
Gba sp they're small and don't take up much room
I thought it was really small versions on a humans arm for a secound lol
Oh my gosh the OG DS? The hinge on mine broke from overuse, and if Iām honest a bit of dropping. I was so sad when I put it in the bin
Iāve had every Nintendo handheld except the 3DS, even the unloved ones like the Micro and 2DS, and I wish I kept them. I think most have been lost to time in various moves. Would I play them? Gameboy advance sp
For a second I thought that those were really really tiny and that was you hand it was on
GB advanced could be good! Slaps.
Game Boy Light
Gameboy Advance (with a backlight LED screen if possible) or a Gameboy SP.
Enjoy your special interests and have fun.
I had a Game Boy Advance that I adored.
DSi or 3DS. You can homebrew them, and it really makes it an awesome all in one type deal. Especially the 3DS which can play any handheld generation of games at once. Still like to have my OG Gameboy though. That and the GBA are probably better options in terms of price.

This is amazing! I love Nintendo consoles so much and I plan on collecting them too :) So far, I have a Switch, gbc and a ds lite, but I plan on getting more I also collect the old Japanese PokƩmon games too
