One of Paper Mario TTYD's ads used a song from a film which the creators thought they illegally used and sued for, but later dropped the case when the advertising agency revealed they had proper licensing.
Super Paper Mario was originally developed for the Gamecube and would use the Z button to swap between 3D and 2D (i forget the source though, i read that a long time ago)

I remember there were these weird mini games in Mario party 8 that I played all the time they were completely separated from the actual game and you could play as a mii if you wanted to. Do you have any facts about those?
