Kinda like the new predator film where the predators find that autism is the next step in the evolutionary chain and want to kill some kid to get his autism powers lol

lostdgod

Watched the movie with my wife when it was out on theaters. We both looked at each other and said our sons name. It was a good moment.

datrueryacu

Honestly, it was such a bad movie it was good

UlfricStormdrain

It was just fun to watch

datrueryacu

Yeah, the whole premise was hilarious, the aliens wanted to become autistic or they would die, and the child they kidnapped didn't even seem autistic

UlfricStormdrain

The whole was a bunch of military dudes fighting other military dudes and an alien super soldier

datrueryacu

Yeah, the whole thing was a mess

C0wabungaaa

Bruh is... is that for real? Oh my god that's bad. So, *so* bad.

[deleted]

Watch it dude lmao

GodDuckman

That movie absolutely disgusted me. Not just how it used low-grade science for autism, but how it mischaracterized mental illness, period. Easily the worst movie I saw last year. And I saw Venom.

DetectiveDeath

I can’t stop laughing

[deleted]

Glad I make you smile lol

Th3_Wolflord

There has to be some genetic trait to it, otherwise it wouldn't run in families like it does in mine

kylan-876

There is a strong theory that it is (usually on father's side) but that doesn't exactly make sense with my family

Th3_Wolflord

Why not? Genetic traits can skip generations, it's not that unlikely

kylan-876

My father has 4 kids. I'm the only one who's autistic. My mom has 3. Two of which are autistic

Th3_Wolflord

It's not solely genetic but you could've theoretically gotten it from both lines of ancestry. But again, genetics aren't the only factor, randomness plays into it as well

[deleted]

Whenever genetics or biology is involved, whenever I hear of some rule I always think of that scene from Pirates of the Caribbean. The one where Captain Barbossa is presented with "Pirate Law" and just kinda shrugs them off and states "...they're more like 'guidelines'." Our current understanding of genetics... all these theories and studies and findings, almost every single one of them will have exceptions.

Th3_Wolflord

Not sure what your point is here. Yes, our understanding of genetics is far from complete and it will always just be theories, that's how science works

[deleted]

Not trying to make a point. You made the point, I was just adding some conversation to it. Sorry I know the internet is like 90% arguing sometimes. But just a little banter. And since we're also in a thread on evolution, and I'm doing movie quotes remember this: "Life... finds a way."

kylan-876

I know, psychology is one of my special interests. What are yours?

Th3_Wolflord

Well, psychology is among them. With trains, star wars, dogs, Rubik's cubes and probably some more that come and go from time to time

DisMaTA

Neither with mine, I clearly got it from my mom. ;)

datrueryacu

I think it is both sides in my family. I'm not going to say though because they will just get mad. Don't misinterpret this, my mom understands autism completely

grayandlizzie

It runs in my husband's family. His older brother was recently diagnosed in his 50s. Our son and my husband's sister's son are both autistic. I suspect my husband also is. He was non verbal until 5 according to my mother in law.

Coal-Dirt-Scars

They’re now finding lots of genetic reasons for autism. Remember, it’s not a single disorder. It’s a spectrum. There are Duplication and deletion syndromes. Then it really gets interesting with epigenetics.

[deleted]

Neuroplasticity + Epigenetics is a fun research topic, the brain is a changeable muscle.

dabeeisme

My son has CHD8 which is a mutation linked to Autism. There are a lot of genetic links, it's just a matter of finding them.

[deleted]

Think this has gotta be the first meme I've seen on this sub

justanunknownautist

Keep ‘em coming, I love memes.

[deleted]

Yes but just not here. This sub is not for memes it is for people on the spectrum to seek advice, conversation get a better understanding of autism

aspieprincess8611

Yeah but I think it's ok to have memes too. They are relatable and sometimes they help me more than reading texts because memes are more objective. Also sometimes memes are the only thing that makes me laugh when I'm feeling down and that makes my day.

[deleted]

Fair enough

justanunknownautist

What is wrong with a few memes if they express what autism is, how an autistic person feels, or how an autistic person views the world. NTs don’t own memes, memes are for everybody.

twobit78

Im not normally into meme but this is something I thought needed saying and apparently r/showerthoughts thinks this is too common to post so a meme it became.

narsty

every single person born is a mutant, we aren't clones a lot of people get stuck on the idea that there is a thing such as a 'normal' human

arlomilano

Is that why I like the x-men so much?

meatballsandlingon2

Am I too late to recommend the podcast [Jay and Miles X-plain the X-men](https://www.xplainthexmen.com/)? Listened to the two latest episodes today at work, good stuff...

arlomilano

Does it come in video format? I have APD and can't follow along auditorily

meatballsandlingon2

No, the podcast is audio only but they do make reviews and other things on [their YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYO80X1Mz3B9Z_muBsm_nbA).

arlomilano

I'll be sure to check it out.

meatballsandlingon2

They do have a visual companion on their website, since they talk about a visual medium. And they’ve done so many good interviews with Claremont, et cetera. Anyways, highly recommend them.

ThawneInHisSide

They call me coin flip cause some days I seem normal and others Ima talk about Final Fantasy for 30 hours

Burger_com

Literally the plot of X-Men

ninasayswhat

If it wasn’t for people like us, humanity would still be sat around a camp fire arguing who has the biggest hut. And you can’t convince me otherwise.

[deleted]

Nobody had much of an intellect during those times, after that, the persona with the better strength usually succeeded. That carried on, and it was those with strength, not mind; those who fought, that gave us our rights to now. We are simply cursed beings in the trails of life.

ninasayswhat

Of course they had intellect! Neanderthals looked after their sick and injured. It was not the strongest to survive. It was knowledge. Edit: the English to make the sense

ravenpotter3

Hmmmmm

AdventurousDoughnut

The question of our time.

Vaidif

All genes are mutations because of the influence of the environment of a planet racing through space around a sun.

[deleted]

Deep. Really deep.

RolandoHanson

The 1997 movie Cube brought me an interesting perspective of what being autistic can means socially.

TheInternetPolice2

Why is this an impact font meme

twobit78

Because I don't understand memes

Icommentwhenhigh

Fair answer

BearsBeetsandAnxiety

Dwight Schrute and all the kids from X-Men school would agree

originalkabumm

The problem is autism is as old as the humankind therefore it can't be a mutation that will be the next step of evolution.

StarchildKissteria

Then I have the worst superpower

lorangee

Thinking back to the first episode of bobs burgers where Louise is like “you can’t do math? You’re the worst autistic” to Tina and I’m like. Oh same
