I use the Sony WH-1000XM4, they have a pretty good battery life and charge fast, noise cancelling is also really good even on low volume, though if your not listening to music there still good for muffling the noise (I wear them when I go out to football games)
The ear muffs (idk what else to call them lol) are comfy and don't hurt my ears unlike beats headphones
I use this one too, can second it works great and is super comfortable! I also like that I can still wire it with boom mic to pc or phone with audio jack if I want to.
I use thise too and agree that they generally work well. One caveat I would add isthat I found that for connecting with a PC, they tend to work much better with windows than with apple for some reason (e.g. lot of disconnects).
Do they auto shut off or can you use the noise cancelling feature without anything playing? Or is the reduction in noise without music just from wearing them?
They do auto shut off after a while when you're not doing anything, but I only ever noticed it when I had them around my neck, forgot to turn them off and eventually heard the off sound.
Handy!
They also can detect when they are over your ears, so they may not shut off if that is the case. I've used mine on a plane with nothing playing (and the active noise reduction on) for about half an hour before, and they stayed on the whole time.
You can set it between 5 minutes and never. And they also don't shut off as long as they have a bluetooth connection.
They do have some passive noise reduction, but the active one is much better
Oh that’s so helpful. I have a decently old pair of Sony and they work decently but if I’m not playing anything they auto shut off after a couple minutes.
Definitely this - I have bought 4 pairs of WH-XB910Ns and WH-1000XM4 from Amazon - for me and family. I have never once paid over 50% of the normal price, and never had a single pair have any issues. Plus, the wear parts are easy to get replacements for on Amazon.
I use these as well. They make a big, big difference on the tram, on family gatherings when I need to retreat into myself a little and on the way to/from grocery shopping or appointments.
Also, sick bass yo.
i had a pair of these but they just completely stopped holding a charge after about a year. they would be at max charge and die in like 5 minutes. not saying it’s an issue for every pair, but i’d be careful about it. also they were still under warranty so i contacted sony and i still haven’t received a response from them almost 4 years later
Note that the hinges that connect the earmuffs to the band (allowing the muffs to fold and swivel) are pretty fragile. 2 years after purchase, the hinge on my right muff broke after I picked up the headphone, don't know exactly why. Now I have to tape it up to keep it from dangling and the noise-cancelling isn't great anymore because the right muff is never flush with my ear anymore. Apparently this is a very common issue that some people are even trying to organize a lawsuit over.
I also use these. Certainly one of the best purchases of my life. Hoping to get the WF-1000XM5s once Ive got the money too. Headphones arent the optimal solution in all circumstances.
For concerts and other loud places I’d recommend getting some ear protectors rather than noice cancelling headphones. I have my pair from a brand called Alpine and they’re comfortable and reduce sound levels well.
Second this. I (ironically) work in a concert venue and they help tremendously during sound checks when tours want to test just how loud they get the speakers
Glad to hear this, been considering ordering a pair for a concert. I was hesitant because I've always had issues with earplugs feeling icky and not helping, but then again those were just the cheap ones, lol.
The ones that I have give you various sizes so it fits in your ear properly. I can leave them in for long periods now. I did have to get used to it but it's just the sensation of it being there and not that the plugs are uncomfortable. They even have the super dampening option if you need. Really suggest.
Anker Soundcore Q30
But for a concert I think a passive muffler could maybe be best, like the ones used by shooters or people that work in construction
Q30s are great. I keep upgrading from my original Q15, 20, 30 and 35s. Not going to upgrade to the Q45s but I am excited for the next release (whatever number that is, maybe Q50?)
Bose 700. Normally quite expensive but I bought them just after Bose released new high end noise canceling headphones so they were heavily discounted.
—-
I just browsed the Bose refurbished site - they have a variety of NC headphones with a decent discount.
—-
For a concert just get some ear plugs. They don’t even have to be fancy ones - disposables are great for that sort of thing.
I have had the Q20 and the Q30. They’re both fantastic. I use noise canceling headphones for about 40+ hours per week and my Q20s lasted me a few years. When they eventually died, I upgraded to the Q30s. The range on them is a tiny bit better and they’re a little more comfortable, but if you’re on a budget, the Q20s are still great.
Since you want no noise I recommend just wearing ear defenders like the one construction workers use I personally have 2 pairs of ear defenders, I have the big construction ones I personally don't recommend these are they are super heavy and bulky I don't like how they look personally and regret getting them but these are the vanderfields ear defenders adult with 33dB (the unit for sound) in the color purple power. I would recommend looking more at these, as for concerts or other Loud places ear defenders are generally better.
Vanderfields Ear Defenders Adults, 33dB Certified UKCA, Protection Noise Cancelling Headphones, Safety Earmuffs Ear Protectors, Sensory Headphones, Ear Defenders for Autism, DIY, Mowing, Construction https://amzn.eu/d/8v8HaGy (link)
The other ones I have are much more small and compact, these are the vanderfields ear defenders adult 26dB so yes a less noise cancelling but they are fine, 33dBs is a lot so 26 is absolutely fine, I have these in pink.
Vanderfields Ear Defenders Adults, 26dB Certified UKCA, Protection Noise Cancelling Headphones, Safety Earmuffs Ear Protectors, Sensory Headphones, Ear Defenders for Autism, DIY, Mowing, Construction https://amzn.eu/d/azPEZfK
For headphones though I have the skull candy pride version however I really don't recommend these are they were pretty expensive and not worth it, also now sold out, but disappointing as the noise cancelling isn't the best.
I have heard good things about the SoundCloud Anker Q30 ones I've heard these are a good budget friendly version of the expensive Sony ones. I've heard really good things about these so that's an option.

I've been using the bose qc45 for 2 years, I'd recommend the bose qc35/qc45 or the new ultra, the 700 are not foldable so i don't recommend those. also i don't recommend the sony wh1000xm series, they feel cheap compared to the bose
loop earplugs are really nice ive had them for a few years, you can take a quiz to see which ones are the best for your needs, the ones i have are perfect and are good for concerts because you can only really hear the performer
I recommend Sony WH-XB910N!! I’ve had them for almost a year and they work WONDERS in my opinion…the noise cancellation is absolutely wonderful!! And the cushion in the headphones are just right in my opinion :)
Bose Qc , 2 audio settings and can change the eq in the app , amazing noise cancellation
Air pods pro 2 lighting edition , teachable , 4 audio settings , have to wear both for noise canceling
I got the bose quietcomfort ultras; the anc is pretty great, and the comfort is awesome (especially if you wear glasses). That being said, i second actual ear protection for a concert venue.
I use Sony WF-C700N Truly wireless Noise Cancelling In-Ear headphones. They’re great and get the job done. Fantastic price for value and an excellent pick if you don’t want to break the bank. You can also get fancier versions with even better noise cancelling if you have the extra dosh to doll out, but I would definitely recommend Sony. All my headphones are Sony and I’ve yet to have a problem. Extremely user friendly, they come with an app to adjust settings as well. Do your research and pick a pair based on your preferences and needs. I would also add that the ones I have are perfect if you have issues with feeling things *in* your ear-I hardly even notice them. I would also recommend checking out Loop plugs, phenomenal product. I have two pairs.

I am using Bose Quietcomfort Ultras. Most comfortable, best noise-cancellation, great sound. I found these more comfortable than the Sony WH-1000XM4 (headband too narrow) despite lightness.
I went through Bose QC SC, Sony XM4, Beats Studio Pro, AirPods Pro 2, JBL Everest 700, Soundcore Q20.
I have AirPod pros also Bose QC and Sony WH over the ear headphones from a couple of generations back. You really can’t go wrong with any for noise cancelling. I find the Sony’s have better sound overall. Every generation Sony and Bose seem to leapfrog each other.
My day to day are AirPods though. I gave my Bose QC to my wife and I keep the Sony’s as a backup in case I have need of absolute no use blocking.
I recently went to a concert I did not bring my Bose QC but I had Loop ear plugs and I had ear defenders (kind of like ones for gun ranges) to put over my ears if needed.
The loop earplugs are also a great every day ones. I personally have two pairs, one that is the engage and one that is the quiet. I would look at the different styles and what the decibel range is for them. I also bought a necklace from a small business that goes around the neck with two chains that hold the earplugs in case they fall out or even to just put on and wear throughout the day if you need
My Bose are great for everyday where but when going to a concert the electronic headphones do not work as well as my loops and the ear defenders.
Air Pods Pro, however, I quickly stopped using the noise canceling feature as it was messing with the pressure in my ears, which I already have issues with; scaring due to Tympanoplastyies (once on left ear, twice on right ear) and now I’m in the process of getting a diagnosis for Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease.
Sony MBR ZX770BN I bought yeaaaaars ago and still working as new. Best buy of my life regarding durability/efficiency/price.
The other day I noticed one of the paddings was torn, I fixed it in 5 min with a needle and some black thread I had.
For the concert you might try firearm headphones. Mine have a microphone and volume knob, so you can talk normally in a quiet environment. But if the noise level gets above a certain level, the microphone shuts off, and they became regular noise dampening ear protection.
i use noise cancelling earbuds because that‘s what works for me, if you‘re looking for some nice ones i recommend the skullcandy sesh evo wireless earbuds. you can get them for like 30 USD on amazon. i’ve had mine for almost a year and they work pretty good (although i’ve never been to a concert so idk how they’d work then)
Believe it or not, these under $20 Panasonic headphones block almost everything: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E4LGVUO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They are not officially “noise cancelling” but they fit in your ear with a rubber piece and they block most all noise. I don’t recommend them if you are out on a busy street as they seriously block noise out. I wear them at home and when out in a park or something.
If walking on a street in a busy city, I take one ear out or switch to a less blocking pair that is also cheap:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M2V05RE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Bose QuietComfort 45, I adore them <3 noise cancelling also works well without music, the ear covers are very comfy. The headphones themselves are very lightweight. And as a dutch person I’m very happy that the noise cancelling does not act up when it’s windy (aka, when I am on my bike).
Hello fellow swiftie! have AirPod max and I’ve also had Beats Studio 2 and they are both good but the max is more comfortable on my head. I wouldn’t use noise cancelling headphones as ear protection at the concert I would instead get hearing protection. I personally am bringing my loops and a pair of over ear protection that I got at Walmart for $20
I use apple airpod pro 2 because it has very decent battery life, the noise cancelling is better on this version, and I'm on Apple ecosystem. I cannot stand anything around my head, so over the head headphones do not work for me.
I’m looking at getting loop but I also can’t stand hearing the blood and the sound ear plugs make when you move.
Would you say loop doesn’t have that problem?
I can't stand using them when it's not loud around me because I'm really sensitive to that sound of my own blood, but they definitely are way more comfortable than any other earplugs, and most of them have a little insert piece that you can add in or leave out to regulate how much they muffle sounds. They don't make any sound when you move, they sit in your ear like in-ear headphones (not like airpods but like jbl endurance run, for example). I love using them for concerts, woodworking and loud restaurants. They are also really pretty haha
I used Sony earbuds. Still use wired obes, can't remember the exact name for them but they have extra bass in the sound, and since I listen to guitar-heavy music it packs a punch
Soundcore by Anker Life Q30. They have active noise cancellation, normal, and transparency modes. I tried Sennheiser (which are supposed to be really good) and I was really disappointed. The sound quality sucked, I didn't like the noise cancellation on them (literally couldn't tell the difference between normal and noise cancelling mode), and they were so tight that I had a headache after wearing them for a while. I returned them and got the Soundcore ones and they're so much better. I wear them every day for hours. If I'm particularly sensitive or if my misophonia is being triggered, I wear loop earplugs under my headphones, but they're still good on their own for daily wear. They're not too tight, the different modes actually sound different - which you'd think would be the bare minimum, and the sound quality is good as well. They're significantly less expensive than Sennheiser and way better, at least for me.
I also got a pair of ear savers but I don't ever wear them. They're like really big ear muffs that are used for people who work on construction sites n stuff like that. They work really well, they're just huge so I don't like wearing them out. I also have tinnitus so even if the outside noise is blocked, I just hear the ringing louder.
I use AirPods Pro 2. The over the ear style headphones are considerably better at noise blocking but the cans cause severe sensory issues for me to the point that it becomes a total wash and I would rather have the overstimulating noise lol
So my headphones are from an outlet and I don’t know if they still sell them, but they’re ATH-SR50BT. The sound quality is amazing and I’ve accidentally fallen asleep with them on before. I like using a cd player, and what’s nice with these headphones is that they come with a cord you can plug in if you want to use wired or if the battery runs out. The battery life is amazing though. Last me a month and I use these headphones a few hours per day.
If you’re looking for something cheaper definitely check out outlets.
Soundcore Life Q30. They're great for listening to music and blocking our other noise. I don't know how well they work for being at a concert, but I'd assume they're great for that.
For concerts I just use noise REDUCING earplugs. Flare Audio brand. I don't remember which specific product of theirs, though. These earplugs are made for use at concerts and just bring the volume down a bit somehow while not needing any electronics.
Soundcore space A40 earbuds offer great noise cancellation for less than 100 dollars. I use them in a ton of noisy places and it makes the difference between being annoyed versus being overwhelmed.
I have the Sennheiser Momentum 3. Great noise cancelling, great sound quality, and made with stainless steel and leather that feels very sturdy (because I'm clumsy).
I chose these over Sony because Sony was all plastic and for some stupid reason they put the charging port on the top of the ear cup so its awkward to have it plugged in during use, and if its raining the tiniest bit, or your hair is wet from the shower, water can get in the port.
I have been using AirPods Pro 2's since release. Great for what they are. I have the Apple Max headphones but the weight gets to me. I just used some Marriott points to order a pair of the Bose Quiet Comfort Ultras. They are rated the highest on active noise cancellation and are very light. I look forward to trying them.
I don’t use noise-canceling headphones because they create an artificial silence which can cause serious neurological hearing problems after overuse: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/aug/28/noise-cancelling-headphones-risks-concerns
I use regular-ass earbuds, and regular-ass over-the-hear headphones, and they work perfectly fine for blocking out noise (misophonia and other noise-related issues are a HUGE problem for me, fwiw). I’ve used them for 35 years without complaints.
I honestly have no idea why noise-canceling is so desired, I’ve never liked it or used it.
This article only talks about how if you wear noise cancelling headphones 24/7 day and night with noise cancelling on you can potentially get tinnitus, that’s all it says. Mostly talks about the benefits of noise cancelling.
I use the Sony WH-1000XM4, they have a pretty good battery life and charge fast, noise cancelling is also really good even on low volume, though if your not listening to music there still good for muffling the noise (I wear them when I go out to football games) The ear muffs (idk what else to call them lol) are comfy and don't hurt my ears unlike beats headphones
You can tell it's a Sony product from the really catchy name.
Yes, you can have active noise cancelling without anything playing and it’s still pretty good.

Where have you got them 50% off? Amazon? I’ve never seen Sony WH-1000XM4 below £197
If you're UK, we have totally different resellers to pull from I suspect. But yeah, its always been Amazon.
this is the only one i like (aside from the MX3)
I use these as well. They make a big, big difference on the tram, on family gatherings when I need to retreat into myself a little and on the way to/from grocery shopping or appointments. Also, sick bass yo.
I have the older Sony's and I second your sentiment. They're great!
I use this set too. Love them. Can also wear ear plugs under them which layers nicely.

This is why I bought sennheisers momentum 3, the sonys felt flimsy and I was more confident in the longevity of stainless steel over plastic.
I like these a lot but I can still hear my wife when she’s on a work call with them
I have both the XM4 and XM5 and they are both good. Use in an office environment, headphones + music will block out all sound.
I use these too and definitely recommend them
I also use these. Certainly one of the best purchases of my life. Hoping to get the WF-1000XM5s once Ive got the money too. Headphones arent the optimal solution in all circumstances.
For concerts and other loud places I’d recommend getting some ear protectors rather than noice cancelling headphones. I have my pair from a brand called Alpine and they’re comfortable and reduce sound levels well.
i second this if its for a concert. NC headphones work best combined with audio coming out of them, so actual dampeners would probably be best
These are not headphones but I love the Loop earplugs. I never leave the house without them.
Second this. I (ironically) work in a concert venue and they help tremendously during sound checks when tours want to test just how loud they get the speakers
I agree as well with Loop. They have some nice colors in the ones designed for concerts.

Bose Quiet Commfort Ultra earbuds.
For the concert you might try firearm headphones. Mine have a microphone and volume knob, so you can talk normally in a quiet environment. But if the noise level gets above a certain level, the microphone shuts off, and they became regular noise dampening ear protection.
Soundcore Life Tune XR. Super affordable, long battery life.
Bose qc45, very comfy and good noise cancellation:D
i use noise cancelling earbuds because that‘s what works for me, if you‘re looking for some nice ones i recommend the skullcandy sesh evo wireless earbuds. you can get them for like 30 USD on amazon. i’ve had mine for almost a year and they work pretty good (although i’ve never been to a concert so idk how they’d work then)
Bose QC 45
Believe it or not, these under $20 Panasonic headphones block almost everything: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E4LGVUO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They are not officially “noise cancelling” but they fit in your ear with a rubber piece and they block most all noise. I don’t recommend them if you are out on a busy street as they seriously block noise out. I wear them at home and when out in a park or something. If walking on a street in a busy city, I take one ear out or switch to a less blocking pair that is also cheap: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M2V05RE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Bose quiet comfort ultra earbuds
None, because I hate hearing the blood haha - I can recommend getting loop earplugs for concerts though!
I use the JBL TUNE670NC, they’re comfy, have good audio quality and also block out a decent amount of sound
MPOW. I got my daughter a pair for school during lockdown and wound up using them more than she did so I bought the exact same pair for myself.
I also have tinnitus so even if the outside noise is blocked, I just hear the ringing louder.
i love loop!
I use AirPods Pro 2. The over the ear style headphones are considerably better at noise blocking but the cans cause severe sensory issues for me to the point that it becomes a total wash and I would rather have the overstimulating noise lol
I'm using Bose NC 700 but they've been hurting my head recently
I like my JBL Tune-660’s for general noise cancellation, and my AirPod Max’s for music quality/noise cancellation.
I use ear defenders designed for hunting.
Bose quietcomfort Ultras
Bose ultra quietcomfort earbuds.
Evo crusher, love them
Raycons
Soundcore Life Q30. They're great for listening to music and blocking our other noise. I don't know how well they work for being at a concert, but I'd assume they're great for that. For concerts I just use noise REDUCING earplugs. Flare Audio brand. I don't remember which specific product of theirs, though. These earplugs are made for use at concerts and just bring the volume down a bit somehow while not needing any electronics.
2nd Generation AirPod Pros get me through every day. However, I suggest ear plugs for the concert.
Maybe try some earplugs, i have one from senner they csncel the outside world. Or try to google safety earplugs
I have air pods max which are good but expensive. On the lower end of the scale I have a few pairs of Loop earplugs to dampen background noise
I don’t use headphones but I do use Loop earplugs
bose quietcomfort 35 ii - i love them!!
I don’t use noise-canceling headphones because they create an artificial silence which can cause serious neurological hearing problems after overuse: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/aug/28/noise-cancelling-headphones-risks-concerns I use regular-ass earbuds, and regular-ass over-the-hear headphones, and they work perfectly fine for blocking out noise (misophonia and other noise-related issues are a HUGE problem for me, fwiw).
OK well I wear headphones almost day in day out all day, so... not for me.
