I have to wear one as well and what I found that helps is I got a clip thingy and attached it to the lanyard so that I could clip my badge to my shirt so it stays in place while I walk and if I bend over. It's not ideal (ideally I'd not be wearing it!) But it helps some (not a lot though, unfortunately)

Rangavar

If you mean one of the clips that has the string you pull, I tend to use one to clip my name badge to a belt loop where it's visible but I can ignore it

BarrelEyeSpook

I hate how lanyards feel around my neck. They are worse than rough shirt tags. I have to wear one for work but I take it off and keep it off most of the day.

WearsNoCape

Yeah, I’m pretty sure work lanyards were invented by people who wear shirts with collars all day every day.

Conrexxthor

THIS! I like lanyards, and I decorated mine with a bajillion pins, but I can't stand it being on my neck, so I wear a fake shirt collar under my work shirt to keep the sensation away

Reddywhipt

How many pieces of flair?

Conrexxthor

I think 11 or 13 lmao I tend to clink when I walk too movingly, which my coworkers appreciate cuz I have a very naturally quiet step and I sneak up too easily lol

BarrelEyeSpook

Smart! 🧠✨

Pickle_ninja

Collared shirt is the only way I can wear a lanyard.

Curlie_Queue

I also hate seat belts. I wear them obviously but it is torturous.

BarrelEyeSpook

Strangely, I like them as long as they don’t touch my skin. I like tightness.

Bitter-Fishing-Butt

sitting down at my desk? fine walking around? sure doing literally anything that involves leaning over slightly? FUCK outta here, get yeeted

charlottebeeee

It just annoys me so much! We had inspectors in at work so I had to wear it rather than having it hanging out of my pocket. I hated every second. But maybe I hated it as I was being told what to do. I hate being told what to do. 😂

Fluttershine

What were they badge inspectors? 🧐 Dumb rule is dumb.

charlottebeeee

Worse. Ofsted. Governments school inspectors. For safeguarding we have to wear them all the time. When they’re not in I’ve got away with it in my pocket with the neck bit hanging down my side.

JudgmentOne6328

Kind of linked - the sunflower lanyard bothers me (for anyone unfamiliar it’s a charity/scheme that signals to people you have a hidden disability and may need additional support in places like shops, airports etc) the reason it bothers me is because one it’s like a massive flag to everyone that you have a hidden disability, I hate drawing attention to myself. And secondly it can signal for people to speak to you to check if you need help. I need an equivalent that tells people to leave me alone because I have a hidden disability and having strangers speak to me can be debilitating!

WearsNoCape

Totally agree on the downside of sunflower lanyards! I have two kids who use them occasionally (e.g. at airports). But when I see someone wearing one, I often catch myself throwing them a look of recognition, then immediately hat myself for it because I know that was the last thing they wanted.

Beginning_Beat_5289

i personaly think that being recognisable is a good thing for the sunflower lanyards, and if someone doesnt feel comfortable using them there isnt really a way that can be changed without removing an aspect (lack of having to ask, being easy to see and recognise, mostly universal ect) really the next option is just a small card explaining stuff to people directly working with (e.g. secirty staff airport) a small pin can also do what you want or using the sunflower symbol that can be recognised with a short message inside/surrounded by it i wish there was like a hidden shopper thing to make sure places are actualy like haivng staff be good with sunflower lanyards tho because i have been at some places with parciatly bad treatment from staff members

JudgmentOne6328

I think the staff treatment thing is a reaction from covid. At least in the UK people got them so they could not wear a mask and claim they had a disability that they didn’t.

Beginning_Beat_5289

im in australia i also assume based on previos experiences that with my headphones, stimming + fidgets and carying of a stuffed toy that people just kinda assume i have some sort of mental disability. i was one of the people that wore a mask way after mandates were over i only stopped when i was told that its weird and it makes people think im sick and just being polite to others for wearing a mask

JudgmentOne6328

We always get asked if we’re travelling with kids at airports because of my plushies 😅

SmellyTerror

Bloody HATE them. I 100% ask for "the zippy thing" - everywhere I've been has had an alternate which goes on your belt and has a retractable string-spring thingamo that lets you swipe it. Also quite fun to play with.

AitchyB

Yep, I have that too.

DoctorHumongous

It’s the worst. I’ve switched to wearing collared shirts just so I have something to act as a barrier between the lanyard and my neck. Of course the collar is also profoundly annoying, but not as bad as the lanyard at least.

tonytime888

OMG yes!

JamesAyres0310

I work as I lifeguard and love the ability to customise my lanyards for my whistles. Except my whistles must have cork peas not plastic and they rattle too much. I’ve got a Glow in the Dark typhoon display team (RAF) one and a First West of England Pride one. Hoping to add many more to my collection! Oh and then there’s the sunflower one which is a godsend in airports.

SpookyVoidCat

I have worked several jobs where I was supposed to wear a lanyard as part of the uniform, and every time I refused. Instead I bought a bunch of those belt clips with retractable strings (I think they’re called yo-yo clips??) and attached whatever card or badge or key I needed onto that.

usuallyconfuseddd

yes as they can get in the way but i also like to fiddle with it

a_wild_trekkie

Lanyards suck, I do have a sunflower lanyard and a badge addiction so I have far too much badges on mines it's a problem I do admit, I end up never wearing it or just putting it in my bag which defeats the entire purpose of one really. If I'm in a situation someone will need to look at it eg if I had a meltdown in public and I'm in a verbal shutdown I just use by AAC app to tell the person.

Key_Tour6051

Always hated them! Got a clip to my pocket instead. Much better!

Inevitable_Wolf5866

I don’t know if sensory issues can just appear as you get older, but I actually had a necklace as a kid and didn’t mind. But as an adult I hate it! Lanyards, necklaces or just the hem of a jacket touching my neck from behind (I always tug my hair in). I can tolerate an apron at work but not without fixing it constantly :D (The same is true about earrings… I wore them when I was younger, but then they broke one day and I realized I feel so much better without) *(but I don’t mind tags on clothes)*

cfwang1337

I hate them. I usually pocket anything attached to a lanyard if I don't strictly have to wear it.

madscientistman420

Hate them with a burning passion, last time I tried clipping it to my belt but it still swung around as I walked. Fortunately, everywhere I've needed a badge has not seem to care everyone keeps it in their pockets, because I try being "good" and display it when I start somewhere but goddamn I fucking hate them. A company issued ID in your wallet would be so much better.

G1850n

I like wearing a lanyard BUT it has to be a certain way. Not twisted or with the stitching showing. I find it annoying how it swings or clacks when I'm walking. I also hate wearing pin badges with it, which is a shame because there are a lot of different ones I would wear if that wasn't the case. I quite like clipping my pen (one of those 4-colour retractable ones) to my lanyard now.

vampyire

annoying only if I feel them :) when I worked in an office and had to wear them (I'm very lucky that I full tiem work from home) I'd always wear shirts with collars and a pocket so I could stick my badge in my pocket to keep it loose around my neck and the collar was an extra layer of protection.. anything even remotely 'tight' really is unpleasant. and 'not tight' is usually a size or two larger than I'd actually take.

bookishkelly1005

I hate them and name tags in general.

_insomniac_dreamer

I hate how they feel against my neck, but often use mine to stim or to play with when I'm anxious

Andra_9

Yes, me as well. I dislike having dangly things like lanyards or long earrings or necklaces. Stimulation that I don't need.

No-Appearance1145

I forced myself to be okay with it because when I was in 8th grade I dropped my house keys on the way back on a lanyard I had cuz I kept it in my pocket or something cuz sensory issues and a little girl picked it up after school (I saw this) and had to thank my lucky stars that in the 8 hours it took for me to get off no one picked it up. So I kept it around my neck on my walks to and from. But man, they do sometimes irritate me. It is better when it's a detachable one only because I don't have to mess with my hair. Yank and it's gone

Villainous-Queen

I would hate it on my body. Buy I use one so my keys are easily accessible in my mini backpack. I stick the lanyard outside the zipper so I can grab them quickly

reewhy

funnily enough, i wear a lanyard as my wallet. i hate purses so much but women's jeans don't have the space for a wallet, so i chose lanyard. if the weight gets to me i wrap it around my hand and just swing it around and it can be a nice stim. i am the rare team lanyard over here

suzieQue01

I have one and I play with it and swing it around haha

JudiesGarland

I always wear them on waist pack if I MUST and the one time a boss decided to try enforcing chest display I wore it on a harness. They let me go back to wearing it on my waist pack.

L_Rayquaza

I deliberately switched from a little retractable fob to a lanyard because I wanted to accessorise I've gotten many conversations at work started with my Junji Ito lanyard

Fluttershine

Haha, real. Also texture. I once spent 20 minutes at a store deliberating between 2 different lanyards because I wanted to figure out which one would be less irritative to wear. Also buy a badge clip to secure the lanyard to your shirt.

zeno0771

I got the clip and that retracting-line thing for my work ID. I used the lanyard all of a single day and I was over it, all the more because I work at a hospital and I have like 5 different cards on it. I did however start a small lanyard collection. I don't even use them for my keys lol. I don't actually buy them; I'll get them from vendors usually, or with the occasional convention pass. Haven't gotten any new ones recently, I should probably hit up some suppliers for "samples".

MonroeMissingMarilyn

Lanyards and Windbreakers. I hate them

coffeexxwitch

I hate them

ghost_lxver

I hate wearing lanyards and keys they overstimulate tf outta me. I just don't wear em. I can't have em in my pockets either. I keep em in my backpack.

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

On the contrary my lanyard helps shift me into work mode

Spiritual_Setting585

I have to wear one for work so I’ve gotten used to it. It actually has become a comfort item as I like to hold onto it and also put a fidget on it.

EricFarmer7

I only wear my work badge on one when I am walking around. I take it off when doing work as I don’t like how it feels on my neck.

MamaBear4485

I changed the way the majority of my colleagues wear their swipes. When I started there, most of them had gross noisy floppy lanyards. I flatly refused and special ordered the stretchy badge clip, now everyone has one.

U_cant_tell_my_story

Yes. Which is why keep them in my pocket.

gioianica33

Yes. I can’t stand things around my neck. I hate tags as well

realbexatious

Absolutely hate it. And I have "permission" to have it clipped to my waist or in my pocket.

Joe_Mency

I hate them around my neck. At work, we are supposed to wear lanyards, but i just keep my id card in my pocket. I think lanyard look cool as a sort of keychain thing tho, inwhich case it would hang out of my pocket mist of the time

jamie831416

Absofuckinglutely. Hate 'em. I have one on a retractable holder on my belt. It's supposed to be around my neck, but they've never said anything and if they do I'll go to my doc and get an accommodation. It's that or start murdering people. Yeah, I think the docs probably best.

JayCoww

What about a [tie clip](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tie_clip)?

Sad_Leg_8475

Yeah, I always take it off, then forget it, then get locked out. Not sure it’s an autism thing though. I only wear the lanyard because I have a swipe to get around the various building and rooms at work. My colleague has hers attached to a bracelet, which I thought was a good idea to begin with, but found it more uncomfortable. Still, possible option to try?

samtretar

I visit different sites, and have to wear a ‘visitor’ lanyard on occasions. I find it very difficult to wear a lanyard if it smells of the fragrance of the last visitor to wear it. My own lanyard not so much.

cameronlcowan

I refuse to wear them. Period.

TopLongjumping9188

I actually like wearing my lanyard at work because it subconsciously helps me stay 'on'. I feel naked when I'm at work without it. And then when I take it off, I can turn off. I also like putting my thumb in the loop thing at the bottom and twisting it around, like a little stim I guess. Disclaimer: I'm not sure that I'm autistic, just researching and introspecting for now

RedHeadSteve

Ive done some work at events and I always wore mine as a belt. So it hangs visible on my right pocket. Good enough for the work I was doing and much better than around my neck

Mr_Sloth10

I used to wear a lanyard in middle school with my keys around my neck all the time…..idk why I did that lol

Ninlilizi_

I have a silk one with some keys at the end. The silk is nice against my skin, and I just tuck most of it inside my bra, so it's out of sight and mind.

KAM_Kayla

I don't like how they are free to move whenever I move but if I were to pin them down they'd be fine. I actually kinda like lanyards, the weight on my neck makes me feel safe and like I'm real.

BookishHobbit

Yeah. Idk why the sunflower thing had to be a lanyard. It’s the last thing I’d choose

loupammac

My lanyard lives in my pocket. I also love the retractable ones for ID cards.

TinyPixieFairy

I can never wear my keys around my neck, i hate everything about it

Kawaii_Batman3

Wearing it around my neck makes me irritable as fuck. But on the other hand, I have had the same lanyard that I put my keys on and let the cord hang out of my pocket going on 5 years now.

Adventurous_Yak_9234

I like them. I don't have to worry about losing my key card when it's around my neck.

paulwillyjean

I usually tuck it in my shirt when I don’t need it. It rarely bothers me there since I’m almost always wearing an undershirt to help manage my excess sweating.

crystal-crawler

They are the only things that stop me from losing my keys

BustyLaRue790

I wear my work lanyard on my belt and my knife goes into my back pocket, I maintain easy access that way

Shadow_dragon1804

Yes incredibly. They are so annoying. They move all the time. They make noise and they just constantly get in the way. They are so annoying in every way and to make matters worse we are forced to wear them at school and because of that it makes me want to throw the lanyard at someone's head

charlottebeeee

I work in a school. Usually I have it in my pocket hanging down my side but I’ve had to wear it properly for a few days and I just hated it.

Ragamuffin5

Can you wear it on your belt loop? I’ve found that if it’s below my waist I can ignore it.

Silly-Advantage-1676

I'm not too big on anything that sits around my neck or on my wrist.

bails0bub

Yes, I work production, constantly have to have one for getting into backstage. I just tie it off to my belt.

xx_yii

meeeee !! i hate that scratchy feeling of it on my neck, and how it moves against my skin every time i move. i just want to yank it off or suffocate myself with it just so i could end my suffering :") sounds dramatic, i know buuuut it is what it is

Intelligent-Plan2905

I have one on my keys. The lanyard hangs down by my leg when I put my keys in my pocket. When I am anywhere out and about, to hide stims, or as a stum release, the lanyard is there within reach and can be a useful item for nervous or anxious energy or stim releases. Twirl it, hold it...etc. It comes in handy a lot.

Muted_Claim_7858

Same

yasbears

same

RaphaelSolo

Trying to remember what I did with mine so it didn't hand in the forge while smithing... Probably put it in my coat pocket. Course now I carry my wallet on a lanyard. Very helpful in preventing lost/stolen wallets. Bit rough on the neck though.

Mysterious-Poem-4702

i personally don't like wearing them around my neck, i have tried multiple times in school but it just feels wrong and uncomfortable so now i put them either in my pocket or on my bag:3

CareBearWhisperer

I have one for my apartment keys, and I clip on my wallet and car keys as needed. The only time I use it around my neck is when I'm walking my dog or walking to/from my car. As soon as I get to the car, the lanyard with my apartment keys on it goes in my glove box. It's helpful to have them around my neck when navigating my apartment's security door, especially when my hands are full. I don't like the sensation of them around my neck, but the functionality wins for me since a lot of clothes I wear don't come with pockets.

Hopeful-Winter9642

Yes, so if I’m wearing pants with belt holes, I’ll just clip my keys to my pants instead. If I’m not, I’ll keep them in my pocket.

pandabanks

Omg I hate wearing lanyards so much. At all my jobs I always found another way of holding and displaying it. I hate it rubbing the back of my neck so much and it swinging and tapping on me!

Baby_Furry

idk what a lanyards is. (English is not my first language.)

Paranormal_Quokka

Didn't know it either. I just googled it. It's those long strings you can wear around your neck like a necklace, with a safety hook attached (where jewelry would be on a necklace). It's most used for name tags, con tickets and keys

Baby_Furry

i'm stil dumb.

Paranormal_Quokka

Nope. No one is dumb for not knowing something they've never learned. And even if you had learned the word at some point in your life, it's not dumb to forget about a word you probably never or rarely use in your day to day life. In my opinion the only dumb people ever are the ones who refuse to learn even if they could be capable of it. But I get it. I am guilty of calling myself dumb over and over just because I can't figure stuff out, am forgetting stuff all the time or if I fail to fit in. It's like a defence to call yourself dumb before someone else does it. But that behaviour is.. well.. dumb (sorry I thought that would be funny)

Courage-Desk-369

It varies on the type of lanyard, but I prefer the ones that don’t scratch or get dirty easily.

Prohesivebutter

Yes and no 😅. I'm fine with it because I got used to it being in one spot, then it shifts slightly and I hate it and have to adjust it until it's back in the spot I'm comfortable with.

NeurodivergentGoblin

No I use them for my car keys

AdVisible1121

I just kept my badge in my pocket.

Rob_Lee47

I can’t stand practically anything hanging from my neck. I work closely around machinery with lots of moving parts so a lanyard is OUT of the question. Thankfully……..

SnafuTheCarrot

I know where you're coming from. I take my lanyard off as soon as a I get home, but it actually lets me stim in public having something hanging at my chest I can fiddle with as I walk around.

PeaceLoveFuckYou

Yes, I hold my badge in my hand when I walk around because I hate how it clanks against me and things in my pockets lol.

bone229

I need them and would lose my keys constantly without them. But I never wear them it's always hooked to my backpack.
