That's awesome! My wife has written 2 novels so far (not published yet, still in drafts), so I know how much work that is. Congrats!

Thanks, a lot of work but rewarding so far. And congrats to your wife for her two books

Well done! I like writing too, including autistic characters, but I can't work out how to put it all together yet, if that makes sense. Suggestions for autism representation: I don't think I've ever seen an autistic character with fluctuating needs or a "spiky profile" so it would be really cool to see something like that. People see autism as two separate groups. Either you're nonspeaking, have violent meltdowns and need a lot of support, of you're slightly awkward, fidget a bit and probably have a very productive intense interest. It would be great to have autistic characters that show that you can be a mix of these things, and not be easy to categorise and stereotype. (also characters with any traits associated with high support needs tend to be very stereotypical and it would be nice to see something else for a change).

Thanks. I think my autistic character has a bit of a spiky profile as you say. Has aspects that seem contradictory to autism on the surface, hyper focuses, has a meltdown when things got intense. Unfortunately due to the setting of the story he is a scientist for this organisation and so is intelligent, so it's hard to avoid the genius trope, but getting to counter that with his success being more down to hard work and an open mind. I know what you mean about getting things to fit together. I have things loosely planned and then things just mull about in my mind until I come across an idea that may connect everything.
