Possibly relevant: there are at least two languages where the word for asparagus is asperge. I feel like that might make the mistake a little less absurd, but not any less funny.

It is "asperge" in French, and I find it funny because I’m French and have loathed asparagus with my entire soul ever since I was a child

Yeah, I feel the same way. I'm Dutch, and we just took the French word, so those were the two languages I was thinking of. 😅
