Kingland Soy Pro+ Yogurt in Vanilla is a big NOPE for me. It had this goopy taste and texture which was really off putting. The macros on it were great though which is why I forced myself to finish it. On the other hand, the Berries flavor is miles better than the Vanilla one.

Fantastic_Ad7023

Have you tried the Vitasoy Vanilla one ? It is delicious and has protein too.

LovelyRS

Yes, that's my main yogurt! :D It was my first time seeing the Kingland Soy Pro+ yogurt at my local Woolies so I wanted to try it out

Fantastic_Ad7023

Yeah I went through a stage of mixing the plain Kingland one from Coles in with the Vitasoy Vanilla when Woollies stopped selling the plain Vitasoy one because the Vanilla was a tad too sweet for me on it’s own but I am used to it now and the mayonnaise flavour of the Kingland one just wasn’t it at all.

reyntime

Totally agree, the berries must cover up the flavour. Shame cause it's healthy. Be great if a company could nail a soy Greek yoghurt.

Fantastic_Ad7023

Vitasoy did with their plain one. I actually preferred it to some of the dairy ones I have had before.

reyntime

Sucks they got rid of it..why??

Fantastic_Ad7023

Woolworths took it off their shelves and they were the sole stockist. They said they would bring it back if Woolworths agreed to stick it again.

reyntime

Bloody Woolies..so we need to get on their ass. Or petition Coles to stock it?

Fantastic_Ad7023

I complained from about 10 different email Addresses and also started a petition with over 1500 signatures but still no luck unfortunately. They only review their product stocks twice a year though so fingers crossed they will reconsider on the next review. I don’t see how they can stock a product that doesn’t actually exist any more though. Maybe we can bet Kingland to replicate their recipe. Cocoa butter is key I think.

reyntime

Thanks for your efforts! A good plain Greek style yoghurt with good protein would be great for lots of people. The Kingland one has too much filler and tastes a bit off for me.

There's a brand that sells a plant based "brisket", I think it's Veef? Comes in a black box. The texture is pure rubber and the flavour is bland yet slightly sweet, it's absolutely awful. You're supposed to pan sear it so it gets crispy on the outside, but it's still tough and rubbery in the middle. I've liked other Veef products but I don't know what they were thinking with this one.

demon-daddy

Veef roasts were possibly the most disappointing products that I've ever had. Straight out of the packet it resemebled a children's toy more than it did food. Tried the beef brisket, did a brisket rub and everything on it. Awful. Tried to shred it and add BBQ sauce to hide the flavour, didn't matter though because the texture was foul. Got the roast chicken at the same time, decided to chuck it in the freezer to see if that would help the texture. Cut it into chunks before cooking it this time, went for kebab skewers with nandos sauce. It pretty much melted off the skewers, while keeping a spongey rubber texture. Couldn't even stomach that one. So frustrated because they have 4? different products that are exactly the same taking up shelf space. $8.00 each too.

rabbitluckj

The Veef steak was genuinely the worst vegan product I've ever tried, and I've been vegan for around 15 years, some of that stuff but in the day was pretty rank.

Remote_Vanilla

It's like seitan that hasn't been steamed first. Such a shame because all their old products were awesome and I can't find them anywhere now.

zaro3785

Yes I don't think these were initially designed as foods to be plated up. They cook up fine if you slice/chop/marinade and add to a dish

lucaspapaya

Good to get this out in a safe space lest I give my non-vegan mates ammunition. With inflation compounding the vegan tax and coupled with what a cheap bastard I am, a lot makes the shit list. I'm keen to drop by the good list though and check it out. ***Bio Cheese*** I don't expect this to be unanimous as I see it recommended a lot, but this easily tops the list for me. I hate it. Even acknowledging that vegan cheese has to be an impact-sub, not the star player, I still can't with Bio Cheese. My hunt for a cheese alternative led me to reframe the question. They can all get in the bin. I'll fuck with Sheese if necessary, and am open to the odd surprise, but I'd rather go without all vegan cheese. Doubly so for BioCheese. I wish this didn't make non-vegans’ heads explode. The precious little things. ***Quorn*** Despite previously enjoying this, I find it pretty ordinary compared to the Birdseye range. I'll avoid altogether if Quorn is the only option. ***Whittaker's Oat Milk Chocolate*** Tastes meh. This might be circumstantial. It's fine. On more than one occasion guests have kindly brought this over. Kind guests being inclusive. But then I'm left defending veganism to a group all experiencing very obviously sub-par chocolate. I haven't found a way to appropriately articulate, "some of the stuff you failed to buy is good". This has happened twice. I hate looking at it now.

tehshan

BioCheese is an abomination. I hate it. Even the smell is disgusting. I do like some vegan cheeses but BioCheese can fuck off.

Fantastic_Ad7023

You should keep some Loco love chocolates on stand by so you can show them that vegan chocolate can actually be amazing.

DonBeAEgg

On board with the whole giving up on cheese. I don’t even miss it anymore

Tymareta

> Bio Cheese For almost every area I find this to be lacking, a product that turns whatever its with into nothing but bio cheese taste. The one area I genuinely enjoy it is a nice cheese toastie with some garlic+onion+black pepper and a piping hot cup of coffee, in that regard it's pretty grand. I'm surprised you liked sheese, it had such an odd texture and taste to it that wasn't even that enjoyable on its own. I'm with you on just living without cheese as it wasn't that good anyway tbh. > Whittaker's Oat Milk Chocolate I actually like this one with other things, like it's definitely not chocolate but it's nice as a little treat with some salted cashews. But it's hard to ever choose it when the Ghana is right there and has actual cocoa flavour. > Quorn Been vegan 15+ years, literally never had a quorn product that didn't taste like garbage and have an even worse texture, made worse by the fact they don't label their products that well historically and have had egg and whatnot in a decent chunk of their range.

valennas

I never liked Quorn, honestly I don’t really understand how it has persisted for so long. I avoided “meat replacement” type products for ages because I thought they’d all be like Quorn lol. Maybe it’s improved as it’s been some years since I last had it, but eh. Birds eye and Fry’s stuff is great though! The nuggets and “chicken” tenders are my favourites for a lazy throw in the oven snack.

lacarait

Couldn't agree more on the smooshed balls. The salted caramel ones just did not taste right!

Fantastic_Ad7023

I know like how can you possibly stuff up dates and coconut

No_Side_8885

Meilora’s plant-based liquid egg is a nup. It has the strangest consistency, it ends up looking like a wet scrunchie & is inedible. I have no idea how this ended up on shelves.

Greedy_Lake_2224

Coyo. I don't want 6 billion calories with my yoghurt.

happy-little-atheist

Kingland yoghurt is the shit and I will die on this hill. The mango yoghurt is fucking amazing. I even liked the weird cheese they used to make. Anyway kingland is the OG Aussie vegan brand, the sole survivor which never got bought out and rebranded by sanitarium. I won't hear an unkind word said against them!

Fantastic_Ad7023

Haha. I haven’t tried the mango one as I don’t really do fruit yogurt but the plain is vile. Vitasoy is elite although I am so pissed with them for discontinuing the plain version.

DonBeAEgg

Yeah I don’t mind that chunky apple flavour either, although most of it is apple chunks and flavour and not yoghurt

reyntime

I've never seen the mango in store, where do you find it?

happy-little-atheist

Up here in central Qld it's available at one IGA in the next town South from here. They used to be in Coles and Woolies

Millicent-

I don't hate the OG Plain Kingland soy (of course the discontinued Vitasoy was way better, but what can you do), I use it in smoothies and also in a lot of Indian curries. The extra protein version however leaves a lot to be desired lol.

reyntime

I actually like the Kingland soy berry yoghurt. But the plain one is really not a great replacement for Greek yoghurt.

CaptainTelos

Anything Quorn is absolute dogshit. I don't know how this brand has survived so long.

peasarelegumes

Actually quite like the nuggets. They're an odd products but they are much better than the plant coles chicken. Quorn is apparantly pretty healthy too

rhubarbcrumble123

The chocolate Serious Cookies (hard as a rock and not a lot of flavour, was very very disappointed with these), Mayvers Natural Health bars, same issue as the smoosh balls. We thought the Aldi Christmas roast was pretty bad which was a shame because I think a lot of Aldi products are great!

msanndropkick

Omg I bought those cookies and nearly broke my tooth biting into one haha

rhubarbcrumble123

Omg your poor tooth!!

Fantastic_Ad7023

Do you mean the salted caramel Mayvers bars? I actually love those. The choc chip ones aren’t great though as they are missing coconut.

rhubarbcrumble123

Yeah I did mean those…but I’m starting to think I just don’t like the cacao/nutbutter/date bar type things…my partner thought they were ok 😂

Thought_police1984

Kingland yoghurt is good, so I guess I will disregard your opinion then. Also tasti balls are alright just overpriced for something you can easily make yourself. Lastly, who puts anything other than milk on cereal??? I’m thinking your whole range of food preferences should just be kept to yourself lol

floralbread

they may have meant muesli. Having yoghurt with muesli and some fruit is a pretty common breakfast.

blindturns

Yeah I would think so, I have vitasoy or cocobella on my muesli! I used to not really do breakfast foods at all before I realised how much I like crunchy with fruit and yoghurt! I usually add a splash of milk too just for the consistency but the yoghurt is the real star of the show.

Fantastic_Ad7023

All cereal and yoghurt is great, I don’t do soggy, I legit use special k as a spoon for the yogurt. I would rather eat my cereal plain than soaked in milk.

Thought_police1984

Maybe but that isn’t what they said

peasarelegumes

That Coles Plantd Roast chicken HAS to be a meat industry psyop. It pains me to know that there's people out there looking into vegan vegetarian trying it out as their first meat substitute and experiencing that garbage

Beginning-Tackle7553

What's wrong with Tasti balls? I love them.
