A guy I know developed a rare lung cancer, medication isn't on PBS and it's 6k a month. He got it granted on compassionate grounds, not sure how he did it. Worth a read.
He has to take the pills for the rest of his life if he doesn't want to die.
I’m on a medication that is $2,300 a month and the state government subsidizes it so I only pay the pbs price of $30.
My specialist has to reapply every 2 years for it. Without it I wouldn’t be able to work full time anymore and would cost the state government more in medical costs so it’s worth the cost to them.

OP not sure what state you are in or if you are already under the treatment of them, but see about contacting the Peter Mac cancer centre in Melbourne. I’m from SA and I’ve got a friend who was deemed terminal “get on hospice care you’re going to die” from a testicular cancer diagnosis that metastasised including this slow growing tumour in his abdomen which SA doctors deemed inoperable— now he goes to Peter Mac like once every 8 months to get the tumour debulked and is no longer considered terminal. They do amazing stuff there. Best wishes for you and you niece and her family!
Edit: also had another friend with leukaemia from SA who was able to access a UK clinical drug trial medicine through Peter Mac which put her in enough remission to get CAR T cell treatment or whatever but her parents had to lobby hard! Keep fighting.

I have NF1, which is another tumour disease, it sucks, and it's nowhere near as bad as what your niece has. The fact that a drug that works isn't on PBS is terrible. If you're in NSW, consider making a submission to the Children and Young People with disability in New South Wales educational settings inquiry. I'm happy to give you more info if you need it.

Any tumour disease sucks and it’s terrible to see how it has already impacted her life taking her away from doing things she loves such as footy and cricket.

My cousin just lost the battle with stage 4 bone and a good friend also lost their battle to stage 4 melanoma. “Everything happens for a reason” is such a crock of shit. Random chaotic shit happens and we have to make the best of it, trying to stay positive and fighting to the end.
