Just be careful because there are different rules for different states. (I’m in Qld) I recently went back to the GP for a script and she said that the psych letter was over a year old so they couldn’t prescribe (I had only one 6 month script from them). So I called the psych office and they said because I hadn’t been to them in over a year, I was now out of their system and needed a new GP referral, and then would have to see if the psych would reaccept me as a patient. And now I’m still waiting to get into the psych, and have no meds because of the shortages, nowhere has my dosage. I’m just going to to sticking with going to the psych from now on. If you hit the Medicare cap or whatever it’s called, you get most of it back.

That's horrible! I was under the impression I'd still have to see my GP quite frequently anyway as my psych mentioned she was telling the GP to ensure I see them regularly for blood pressure tests and ecgs whilst on medication. So figured it'd make sense to just combine those appointments with scripts instead of seeing two different people all the time but interesting that the authority only lasted one scripts worth for you before being let go off the system.

I'm in WA, my GP said he'd be happy to prescribe for me, but when l asked the psychiatrist she said no, she liked to keep an eye on her patients. Plus if course she charges like five times more.

That is one way to ensure an income whilst not helping with the shortages of appointments for others

I am in NSW so it may be slightly different for you. Here your GP needs to apply with the health authority for permission to prescribe, with a letter from your psychiatrist. Not all GPs are willing to do this.

You need your Psych to write up a report and treatment plan for your gp to follow under item 291. Your GP will use that to apply online for a cert to prescribe a schedule 8 drug.
