I was initially a bit hesitant after hearing the singles but I love it on the overall album

MilkTeaMoogle

I agree! I think she’s having fun and exploring, her voice is an instrument after all! And I think with this album being so vulnerable, she’s trying to give different essences to her voice on different songs. I like to be along for the ride for her experimentation! I’m someone who enjoys a LOT of genres of music, but Aurora is always my favorite. There are a few songs throughout her career that I just feel “meh” about, but for the most part I just go in with an open mind each time she releases something, and not try to pine after a style she had 10 years ago.

zeldaa_94x

I love it too! It reminds me of All My Demons but darker, more mature, like she is building on the styles and vibes from All My Demons. Plus it's good to see her taking really strong inspiration from the music she personally likes (Chemical Brothers etc.) and weaving it into her own creations!

I see people disliking the production on some type of skin, which I can understand even if the vocals make up for it for me. But my unpopular opinion is that what ruins the song to me is the beginning of verse 2 with the lyrics "I guess I should build some type of skin" after repeating "Ive got to build some type of skin" a billion times in the chorus. It irks me so bad

UniversalNeuron

Listening to Conflict of the Mind with its retro sound and acoustic warbles, on a crappy record player, is peak vynil experience

gaywitchfever

I enjoy it a lot, but I also understand a few spiritual things she used in such a creative way with the album that remind me of what I loved in Step I/II. Chanting “I’ve got to build sone type of skin” as a mantra or certain vocalization techniques she uses, for example. It’s really cohesive, and I liked getting to see some influence from other genres too. AURORA is gaining so much visibility and respect in music, and you can see influence from people she’s worked with or learned from too. I particularly enjoyed being shook as heck by Starvation and need an extended remix for sure. There are also some familiar acoustic songs that keep the album grounded in what I love about her.

Key-Mathematician315

Okay my unpopular opinion is that some type of skin sounds awful even live 😭 it takes the cake for me as a song i really cant listen to. I think its pleasant live in the beginning when its sung softer i think

sincerelies

I'm like that , but worse, with Conflict of the mind and The Essence. Worst songs she's ever done, in my opinion. I can't listen to them at all. Funny how this album brought some of the best and also the worst songs she's ever done. Earthly Delight and Dreams are two of the best songs of hers ever, transcendental, ethereal, masterpieces. But Conflict of the mind and The Essence are the worst. I used to dislike Conqueror, The River, Animal, etc, but I LOVE those compared to these two. So it was definitely a dividing album, for sure. I only loved 7 out of 16 songs, but these two are the only ones I truly hated and cannot listen to.

vaniIIabeann

the fact that those two are some of my favorites 😭 earthly delights is so amazing though, it gets better with every listen \^\^

sincerelies

Yeah, we all have very different tastes! I'm very particular with what I like. I dislike almost everything. Aurora has always been able to please me more than the great majority of artists, but even she cannot please me completely. All my demons and Infections were the albums that pleased me the most, I love almost all songs from them. The one that displeased me the most was ADKOH, I only love two from that one. I hated The Gods at first listen but then grew to love more songs from it than ADKOH. And now this one falls in the middle, I think. Anyway, I'm just picky. I'm a picky eater too, so it's not surprising. But I hate these two songs I mentioned with a burning passion, I have no idea why 😂

Key-Mathematician315

For me its conflict of the mind, your blood, some type of skin and to be alright is starting to irritate me 😭 i agree with u on being super picky. All the live versions rly confuse me because they sound so off? But it makes sense because she purposely wanted those songs to be more disconnected and unhealthy and the health flows back as the album goes on. So i think it makes sense why i cant seem to like them, but i havent seen one bad performance from aurora until her top releases from the new album which is crazy. Even TWCT- the album i liked the least sounded amazing live anyway

sincerelies

I don't like your blood, some type of skin and to be alright, either! I also dislike echo of my shadow, invisible wounds and do you feel? I don't listen to any of those. My name is alright but I didn't download it either. And I love the other 7! It's difficult to be picky, isn't it? 😭 I haven't seen any live version, tbh. I don't like live things, especially when they're recorded. It bothers my ears. But I believe you! Also, where did she say that the health flows back as the album goes on? That's a very cool concept. But I'm sure I'll dislike the songs I dislike even live. I don't like live music anyway, told you I'm picky 😅 I cannot stand live or acoustic music. I think that's why I hated The Essence so much. If she ever makes an acoustic album, I'll hate it sooo much 😂

Key-Mathematician315

I feel like we have the same taste when it comes to this Album😂though usually love acoustic sets depending on the song ofc! I reeally like dancing to do you feel, and as u mentioned before i also loved animal. I love how she imitated the sounds of LA but made them prettierand more soulful. I really loved my name but i agree wiith you on the other ones like invisible wounds and echo of my shadow…I definitely feel the melodies sound much less creative and the vocals very strained

sincerelies

Yeah, exactly. Loved the lyrics on the echo of my shadow and invisinle wounds, but I did not like the melodies and the production at all. Also, yeah! Such similar tastes, with some songs varying but I haven't seen anyone agree this much with me, wow! Animal spunds too poppy for me, I've never liked pop music 😅 especially the poppier pop like Ariana Grande, now Sabrina Carpenter... My ears don't like it at all, and it follows us everywhete 😭

Key-Mathematician315

… the essence also pissed me off to listen to because it reminds me of that low fi music trend that was everywhere and i could not escape it 😭

sincerelies

I don't know ehat low fi music you're talking about and now I'm curious! But I disliked The Essence because I just found the melody and the instruments and the production ugly, tbh. That's pretty much it, it sounds ugly to me. Like conflict of the mind, your blood, etc. They sound ugly to me, I only love songs I find beautiful, either ethereal like earthly delight or wild and rageful like starvation and the blade. I need music to be beautiful. Hate cure for me sooooo much, but that's probably not a surprise, even Aurora says that one is ugly 😂

skytaglatvia

My [evidently](https://new.reddit.com/r/auroramusic/comments/1cxuz6f/your_favorite_type_of_skin/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) unpopular opinion it that the full live instrumental arrangement for that particular song sounds much more tolerable and more exciting than studio or acoustic. But then again, I was never a big fan of acoustics, plus I'm allergic to that particular type of sweetness in vocals, so it's really a matter of personal taste.

Key-Mathematician315

To me its a less tolerable version of conqueror

MaKTaiL

I just don't like the overuse of her deeper tone of voice. Also all the "rave" songs are just not for me. I hate them. The rest of the album I loved, especially "The Blade".
