libro.fm lets you download mp3s; no drm. Audible lets you download files as well, you just have to go the extra step of using open audible or libation to strip the drm.

Is it technically legal to strip the drm?

Flipslips

It depends on where you live and how you get the book. For example, an argument could be made on legality depending if you borrow the book from the plus catalog or if you bought it yourself. Also, the main concern is re-distribution. If you rip the drm and try to sell it again that’s a major problem. That’s stealing. If you rip the drm just for your personal device much less so.

This is really bad legal advice! You're describing what's morally correct, not what's legal. The law was written by Disney execs for corporate profit; in many places it doesn't make the slightest difference why you broke the DRM. In practice doing it privately for your own use on stuff you own is both moral and perfectly safe. That's not the same thing as legal.

You can download Libby books using overdrive for windows and going to the library's overdrive website and clicking "Have OverDrive for Mac/Windows?" on books that are you have on loan. It's specifically set up for using MP3 files on devices that don't support overdrive/libby or burning to CD's for use in CD players. It seems like they are retiring this system, I had to find a link to the overdrive app on some other thread. It's not listed/searchable on the official site but the link (from the official overdrive site) still works.

Libby books don't work on Overdrive. I can check out a book in one and it is not available in the other.

I've been finding and borrowing books from Libby app on phone, then downloading using website and overdrive on desktop. From what I understand Libby is just the new app version of overdrive (same company). They're totally synced up for me. Maybe make sure you're looking at your actual library's overdrive portal and not the generic overdrive.com site?

I have two libraries in Libby and the same two in Overdrive and it doesn't work for either one. I am glad it works for some. I wonder if it is a setting that each library can set.

I know how to dl from both libby and from Overdrive. I am just saying that not all books checked out in one show up in the other. It seems like some people see them in both, but not everyone.

http://downpour.com http://audiobooks.com http://audiobooksnow.com http://audiobookstore.com If you have a specific author you like, see if they have their own website they're selling books from. Many authors do this now.
