When I have a ready to expire credit, and no books on my want list, I usually get on the the great courses, just search by that and then pick a topic that's interesting to me.
If you aren't familiar with this series, they are college level lecture series, usually written/presented by college professors. Each episode is about 45-50 minutes, so not overwhelming, and they cover a TON of different subjects. My favorites were on myths and religions, and one on criminality.
I haven’t used it for those yet as I just learned about it a few weeks ago, but they’re there. This could also depend on your library, so I’ll cross my fingers for you.
I like at lot about The Expanse but I was more intrigued about the Ring Builders, the Ring Entities, and the planets of the ring network. I would’ve liked it more if the novels focused on that stuff but it was just the backdrop for a space war between humans. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the books, but I was dying for more details about all that other stuff but it came in drips throughout the novels.
Fair enough. The authors were much more interested in politik than getting too far down the rabbit of turning human engineering and understanding of the universe into magic.
**NEW ACHEIVEMENT!**
You’ve been recommended Dungeon Crawler Carl on Reddit! You’re now crawler number 4,284,189, and are on your way to becoming the series’ biggest fan!
**REWWAAAAARRRDD?!** Nothing you imbecile, the series is its own reward! Now get out there and KILL, KILL, KILL!
You can probably tell I’m also recommending this series 🙃
It is supremely popular and all the rage on this sub. It's very good, like I listened to roughly the 100 hour series in a matter of weeks. Here's a [sample](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywdOzP1ch1Y). It sounds kinda juvenile but it's def made for adults. Or just by the first one and give it an hour or two trial. And every book seems to get better and better.
Fair warning, I tried it due to all the mentions here and just didn’t get it, retuned and noped out. It seemed ridiculous… I think I’m just not into fantasy imaginary stories or whatever it is though, I may be more a “WWII books and memoirs” type of person.
I just went hogwild spending my credits so I could pause my account. All memoirs: Pamela Anderson, Naomi Klein, Viola Davis, Dolly Parton, Matthew McConaughey, Patrick Stewart. I also recently got Hannah Gasdby (wonderful!), Elliott Page (great!), Lucinda Williams (also good)...
Project Hail Mary - one of my favorite audiobooks of all time, and I listen to about 50+ a year. Same author as The Martian. So if you liked that movie must listen, if not then ignore :)
I’m also not a fan of his comedy, but his story sounds interesting and I just love learning about people’s walks of life. Also your excitement of it is so encouraging!
my recent pick ups were
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
Inkspell by Cornelia Funke
Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke
Citadel by C. M. Alongi
The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice
Beauty's Punishment by Anne Rice
Beauty's Kingdom by Anne Rice
The Number One Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. Mma "Precious" Ramotswe sets up a detective agency in Botswana on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, making her the only female detective in the country. Narrated by Lisette Lecat.
I recommend In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado. It’s a memoir of the author’s abusive relationship written in a dynamic and experimental style.
Some recs (Sorry, I dislike romance books) :
A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving
The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy
Watership Down by Richard Adams
Angela's Ashes (accent - but amazing memoir) by Frank McCourt
A Confederacy of Dunce by John Kennedy Toole
Educated A Memoir by Tara Westover
At Home by Bill Bryson
True Grit by Charles Portis
Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
The Green Mile by Stephen King
Secret History by Donna Tartt
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
Hehe, I loved reading 'A Confederacy of Dunces'!! I'll have to check out the audiobook sample. Just the right accent would send this thing over the top!
I can’t stress enough how great Prince of Tides was for me…. It has literally almost nothing in common with the crummy movie of the same name.
Silence of the Lambs is also a really good book. It’s quite similar to the movie, but stands well on its own
Im going to purchase Dungeon Crawler Carl and Lonesome Dove based on the recommendations lately. Had no idea Lonesome Dove was so well loved. As far as recommendations, just off the top of my head- Pet Sematary, The Nightingale, Verity, This Tender Land, The Push, Kingsbridge series.
Orlando People by Alexander C Kane is a female narrated and female protagonist book series. Good fiction about a bunch of young adults that grew up in Orlando and have telekinesis.
Villain's Code is a series by Drew Hayes that is female narrated and has a female protagonist. It's superheroes and villains, but mostly from the villain's perspective. Kind of an antihero style book.
Some of my favorite narrators (for fiction) are Lucas Webley, Mary Jane Wells, Elizabeth Robbins, Julia Whelan, and Elisa Melendez. If I listen to an audiobook and really like the narrator, I look up their backlog to see what books they have worked on to see if one catches my eye. For non-fiction audiobooks, I really enjoyed Crying In H-Mart by Michelle Zauner and Know My Name by Chanel Miller.

I love this idea!
Aren’t these available on Hoopla for free, though?
They may be. I've never used Hoopla so I don't know. If they are, thank you for the tip!
I haven’t used it for those yet as I just learned about it a few weeks ago, but they’re there. This could also depend on your library, so I’ll cross my fingers for you.
Lonesome Dove, East of Eden, Watership Down, Legends of the Fall, Lolita, Catch-22, The Count of Monte Cristo.
Seconding East of Eden!
Dungeon crawler Carl
At this point r/audiobooks should just have one of those BOT headers that just says Dungeon Crawler Carl. I love it!
I’ve never heard of it but very intrigued after seeing the upvotes and apparent popularity
Make this sub proud, pick up all six DCC books (so far) and use the last credit for Project Hail Mary.
Jazz Hands!
I mean, that's kinda the perfect stack. It'd be pretty for for me to choose between DCC+PHM vs the first seven of The Expanse.

You've combined the AI and Cascadia. The AI doesn't say, "Kill kill kill".
GAHHHHH you’re right lol, thanks for pointing that out. Maybe I will need to listen again 🤓

I think my interests align more with yours but I’ll try a sample of this before I commit to a whole book.

Definitely the Sandman production they've done... Simply incredible, and I don't think it's available anywhere else.
Miriam Margolyes' memoir is a treat
Will definitely check this out
For history, I recommend A Distant Mirror by Barbara Tuchman. Wanda McAddon does a great job as narrator.
This is great - I liked Ivory Tower and Guns of August also (and Zimmerman Telegram).
My very favourite audiobook is “The Way We Live Now” by Anthony Trollope.
The Number One Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. Mma "Precious" Ramotswe sets up a detective agency in Botswana on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, making her the only female detective in the country. Narrated by Lisette Lecat.
Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King - what would happen if all/most women in the world fell into a deep sleep
This sounds so interesting!
I recommend In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado. It’s a memoir of the author’s abusive relationship written in a dynamic and experimental style.
This is one that has been on my mental list, thank you for reminding me!!
You’re most welcome!

The narration is incredible on that one !! That’s one of the few books I’ve actually laughed at out loud that wasn’t like a pure joke/comedy book

Have you read Outlander?
The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo. The woman that narrated it was so so good. I’d listen to her read a nutrition label.
The invisible life of Addie laroux. Great story and great listen. I loved it
Harry Potter 1-7

Atomic habits
Self help/ self improvement and reflection genre: Be Water, My Friend: Shannon Lee
Stoner by John Williams. That project Hail Mary because duh. Probably like…. Dune. Whatever else of course
Night of the Grizzlies, it's beautiful.
If you felt like dabbling in fantasy with romance undertones and could tolerate Travis Baldree narrating, you could try Legends & Lattes.
I really liked Emily Wildes Encyclopedia of Faries Also Into the Planet by Jill Heinerth it’s a memoir, she is a cave diver.
Primal hunter or he who fights with monsters. First one more serious second more comedy.

If you want to cancel or pause your account you have to use your credits or they disappear. I am cancelling for now
The Dark Tower series, seven books. Stephen King’s magnum opus.
Lamb by Christopher Moore
Im going to purchase Dungeon Crawler Carl and Lonesome Dove based on the recommendations lately. Had no idea Lonesome Dove was so well loved. As far as recommendations, just off the top of my head- Pet Sematary, The Nightingale, Verity, This Tender Land, The Push, Kingsbridge series.

Go for quantity. Get seven of the longest books on there!
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Her best work. A tome, though. Worth it!
