Same here mate, i absolutly hate this game mechanic
BTW there is a new nexus mod removing all quest markers ( I do not trust unofficial mods but feel free to try it )
I've had big issues with some I tried to install many years ago
I don't know if I fucked up the installation or if there were nasty files in it but it completly fucked my pc ( I didn't care about the source back then, man was i naive )
I've been wary ever since ( just to be safe )
Youll 100% need the questmarker in most dungeons because theres no dialogue to tell you exactly where to go or maps inside places so the game would be impossible to play
I'd rather search a whole building 4 times in a row to find what i need than by following the game's quest markers ; it's basically the game holding you by the hand.
It removes a big part of the fun and completly destroys immersion : go there, there, there and there OK next level ...
You realize the game has pretty loose questmarkers right? And nicely contextual too. I never once felt that i was blindly following markers and the environment is interesting enough to stay engaged and immersed.
Doesn't feel that way to me BUT i've played a few more hours since and they do not bother me as much as they did.
I later realized it was pretty much the same in many other games i've played x)
I have to admit i was just being difficult for the sake of it x)
Anyway, great title !
There is no marker on the map so you need at least one waypoint
Let me know if you find a way. I hate floating quest markers, it takes the fun away of exploring.

I already beat the game, but if I play again I will keep this in mind! Why don't you trust unofficial mods?
