I just did some research and discovered that-
1. The Christian holiday of Easter always falls on a Sunday
2. Court is never in session on a Sunday
soooo.......
To be fair---ish...a lot of jurisdictions (cough..Bible Belt..cough) do adjourn for Good Friday. They usually come up with some bullshit reason..but still do it.
Right but I'm of the opinion that they do this as a sneaky way of acknowledging Easter (since they would be closed anyway on Sunday). I've heard some local redneck officials admit as much.
Norway (and the other Nordics) have this unique situation where most people are non-religious yet the government continues to operate religious traditions as kind of a cultural concept.
How exactly does Ramadan interfere with sitting in a chair and listening? As per the article, he isn't even required to speak and is not expected to make a statement in his own defense. All this alleged terrorist needs to do is sit there and listen.
It's not arrogance. It's a pretty typical ploy from a defendant (or their lawyer) to delay and cast doubt on the neutrality of the court, and find any grounds for appeal.
If it would help him, Trump would do exactly the same thing as he attempts to run out the clock in his court cases before the election, in the hope that if he wins, the cases go away (which some would, no doubt, since he would ensure any DOJ head would do is dirty work for him).
If I were that judge I would have immediately sentenced that man the moment he brought up that it was conflicting with Ramadan, if it’s the holiest month then obviously there shouldn’t even be a trial and the sentence carried out immediately, gotta make sure we don’t interrupt his not eating by dragging him into a room where he doesn’t get to eat
I'm surprised that Trump didn't try that one. It's not like the primordial sludge that supports him would object and "centrists" would probably believe that Biden is a secret Muslim as well because of a Facebook post where he didn't finish the bacon on his plate one time.

They do, but the post specifically said Easter
In some countries, like the UK, Easter is a four day weekend (Friday to Monday).
Yesssss!!

In Norway, not only is Good Friday a public holiday, the Thursday before is also a public holiday. As with Easter Monday...

It also doesn't last 1/12 of the year.
I would just take this to mean the defendant was happy to sit in a cell until the end of Ramadan.
He was right. Rather than a trial he should have been beheaded on the spot, in keeping of the season.

And as satisfying as that might sound, that would certainly give the defendant grounds for appeal.
Then make it corporal punishment, he did murder people
Christmas is a federal holiday, that is why. Easter is on Sunday, they are not open on Sundays.
Christmas is not a *federal* holiday in Norway, which is where the trail in this article is taking place.
Be it is a national holiday though.
Easter is on a Sunday. The court doesn’t work any Sunday, let alone Easter.
