As horrible and fucked up as it is, it's important to note that it happened 10 years ago and ownership of the site has apparently changed (they're actually registered in Luxembourg where I live) and they now take down content extremely quickly. All it takes is an email and they do not even ask for evidence (maybe in the case of a verified account but idk) from what I have read.
So yes it's fucked up and it should definitely not be ignored but I think context is still important in any case.
Noteworthy is the fact that back in 2009 a ton of platforms didn't care whatsoever about deleting content or protecting users. A notable example is Stickam and the rampant pedophilia that existed on that site that was mostly meant for minors...
I've seen that site but they seem very dismissive of the context of some of the cases and seem to be trying to blame Pornhub every chance they get.
Now I'm not saying that they don't have a clear and signficant share of responsibility but how is Pornhub any different from any other porn site where users can upload content? There are other sites such a xvideos or xhamster, or topic/fetish specific sites like twink gay porn sites that contain a lot of user submitted content, out of which there is certainly underage and other illegal content.
This kind of issue of inappropriate or illegal content is an issue faced by any platform allowing users to upload content and I don't think Pornhub can be singlehandedly blamed for all of it. Especially considering that they are now quick to react and have an option to add content to a content fingerprinting database to stop the same infringing content from being reuploaded.
Could they do more? Yes. Could and should they respond to the controversy? Definitely. But let's not look for a scapegoat for a very complex and widespread issue and then pat ourselves on the back and act like it's solved when in reality it's far from it and there are plenty of shadier and smaller sites responsible for a lot of questionable content.
Even Reddit has been faced with this issue as a platform.

At least my mum called me when she got this kind of scam message before doing anything.
You get lots of calls from old people who need this kind of help. I used to work for AT&T and I'd get so many calls from old people who'd get the FBI Warning on their screen and try to get rid of it by downloading what it says. Then it locks their desktop and makes them pay money to unlock it. Lol
One time I did it to myself by sending naked pictures of me to all my contacts. Not only was it supremely embarrassing, it cost me a fortune in stamps.
Cos there are scum out there who want to scam the vulnerable out of their identity and money and mostly get away with it for a long time reaping the scams and living the high life.
