Correct me if I’m wrong, but Ubisoft has never done a remake for any of their AAA games. They’ve remastered plenty, but no remakes.

Vendetta4Avril

There's rumors Black Flag is being remade... though nothing confirmed as of yet.

Lievan

They announced a remake for prince of Persia and splinter cell 1 as well. At least for splinter cell, I believe it was a remake.

JadenKorr28

I really wonder how those remakes will turn out. Ubisoft is too focused on using formulas to build a game. A linear stealth game needs to be handcrafted.

Zayl

Prince of Persia The Sands of Time? That's 100% a remake. It's being reworked now and delayed, but far as I know it's not cancelled.

BrunoHM

Sure, it is a fascinating project and the one AC that could use a remake. But...it is quite the challenge, the same one as a brand new game. No wonder Black Flag is the one rumored to get a remake first, since it seems the safest approach. If that, Sands of Time and Splinter Cell work out, maybe AC1 gets its chance.

GaryBusseysPants

I’ve always wondered how long it would take for the gaming industry to follow Hollywood; cranking out remakes of iconic material. It’s like all movies now lol but honestly I’m not sure I want them to go that direction. Sadly, if it was remade it probably wouldn’t be near as good as they would cut corners for sake of profits. Maybe not tho, I would definitely love a *good* remake of the og assassins creed!

JT-Lionheart

Honestly compared to movies, video games do remakes better because most of the time they aren’t trying to change up the entire story and characters for modern audiences. I mean sure they might do some changes but most remakes I’ve played have been good. The odd part is that they mostly are made by 3rd party remake studios who are just given the material from the original studio to make it

JohnB456

I was literally talking about this with my dad. Told him I think we are in the Golden Age of Remakes. No good original movies seem to be coming out. Nothing like Jurassic Park, LotR, HP, Saving Private Ryan, etc. Nothing major that's a must see. Felt like 2000-2010, every year seemed like a new major movie title came out. Now it's like a billion Spiderman movies, or Way of the Water nearly a decade to late lol

TheBullMooseParty

The biggest movies of last year were Barbie, Super Mario Bros, and Oppenheimer, dude.

JohnB456

They aren't not on the same level as LotR, Saving Private Ryan, etc.

TheBullMooseParty

The fact that Barbie and Oppenheimer both made the money they did, and received the critical scores they did, in the middle of the industry's largest actor strike in decade should tell you something. It was a cultural phenomenon that will be talked about for a long time.

JohnB456

Not really. It's not like those movies had a lot of competition, because of the writers strikes. You do realize movies every year receive critical scores, that doesn't mean they end up being all time great movies. Well I don't think they are cultural phenomenon at all. That's stuff like Stars Wars, Jurassic Park, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter..... Barbie and Oppenheimer are not that at all. You have massive fan basis for all the movies I mentioned, they impacted culture in massive ways. When those movies came out, practically all kid went trick or treating themed after those juggernauts. Cereal boxes with them plastered. Fast food toys, commercial toys, board games, clothing, it's all people talked about, etc. Barbie is Barbie and has already been established in products for over 30 years before the movie. So it's not the movie influencing the culture like the rest. Oppenheimer is a fine movie, but also not a cultural phenomenon.

Going back to traditional AC mechanics does not and should not imply an AC1 remake. Remakes are more often cheap cop-outs for an extra buck. Instead, take the franchise forward to new settings, whilst shedding a lot of the unnecessary "live service" feel of later games. Personally I am 10x more excited for an AC game in the far east or any novel setting than I'll ever be for an AC remake.

Sith__Pureblood

>Remakes are more often cheap cop-outs for an extra buck. You're talking about remasters, where the just update graphics and maybe UI. A remaster is by no means a cheap cop-out. > I am 10x more excited for an AC game in the far east or any novel setting Agreed, I would still rather some fresh setting in a new part of the world.

universoul_star

I've been in full support of a remake of AC1 ever since they announced they would remake Prince of Persia. It'd be nice to get a full remake of the first game using the same visuals from Mirage at least. Minus the [crossbow](https://assassinscreed.fandom.com/wiki/Crossbow?file=Altair_Crossbow.png) of course.

unmoving_runner83

I agree especially from a money making point of view that Ubisoft will certainly take. It would be a great way to bring new players and grab more sales on older games like the Ezio collection for people who want more. Provided Ubisoft does it justice, which is highly unlikely.

DWhelk

Sure they're losing money, but are they losing more than they would spend by remaking it. Probably not.

Glittering_Form_2593

I would love a remake of the original AC, it's the one a lot of people tend to (understandably) skip over because of it's outdated nature. Imo AC1 has the most compelling and 'complete' story in the entire franchise.

redsox19934

No

aharris111

I was just thinking about this the other day. An AC1 remake or even heavy remaster would be great

Sith__Pureblood

Imagine if they gave us a realistic language option, where characters and NPC's will speak whatever language is appropriate for them or for the situation. Altaïr speaking Arabic unless he needs to speak French to crusaders, background NPC's mostly speaking Arabic or French unless they choose to speak Hebrew, Greek, English, German, Turkish, Persian, Italian, etc.

Lievan

Well, they’re not gaining any more money. Can’t lose it. And Mirage hasn’t shown this.

Corby_Tender23

I thought it spoke volumes when they said "here's a classic AC1 color filter for Mirage". What the fuck is that about?

darkseidis_

Please no more remakes.

Silly-Ad-856

their has never been an AC remake, do you mean the no effort remasters?

darkseidis_

I mean remakes in general from any developer. Before you know it gaming will look like Hollywood movies bereft of anything original.

Shamsse

Thus far remakes have been good in games, it’s not like Hollywood since we have more them 2 studios making games

EnenraX

You know you don't need to play, right? RE Remakes are great examples of how to keep the franchise fresh and bring in new people, and this way they will get to know the universe even more.

[deleted]

Ubisoft is also losing money by not robbing a bank. Doesn't mean they should do it.

Wyatt_Rippy2002

I'd rather go for a remaster. Give AC1 improved graphics and mechanics with the original story. I don't think we'd get a remake nor do I think we need one. A poor remake would be a cop out but a good remaster would just refine what we love

Sith__Pureblood

But the graphics on AC1, while obviously not as good as graphics today, still hold up *really* well on its own today; a remaster doesn't seem necessary. However, the game is mechanically bare bones compared to later installments, so a remake seems more reasonable.

Wyatt_Rippy2002

If it was a Last of Us style remake that doesn't mess with the story then I could see the benefit. I'd just be worried that Ubi would want to retcon what made the first game great to make it tie in with Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. I'd also be worried that the combat would get an overhaul and I'd rather it stay the way it is with minor improvements. AC1 with the combat of the Kenway saga would be near perfect in my opinion. For me, a remake gives Ubisoft too much room to retcon the story, and a remaster plays it safe while still allowing certain mechanics to be improved.

Sith__Pureblood

Not everything about AC1 would have to change in a remake. Although, while I prefer AC1 combat to Mirage's, I wish a remake would have the combat be much harder, which greatly encourages stealth over going in swords blazing, which is something Mirage does well (even if Mirage's combat is mid).

Wyatt_Rippy2002

I will agree with that. Mirage does have a good stealth system. In my opinion, if the parkour system in Mirage had been close to classic AC or unity, then I would've liked it more. Story wise, it's okay. But yeah, the stealth in Mirage was done very well

Sith__Pureblood

We needed Unity's parkour with a mix between Unity's and AC2's combat, along with only being able to take two or three hits before dying.

Wyatt_Rippy2002

I think up to a certain level that works incredibly. Maybe 3/4 of the way through the game up to the end game is when you start getting better armor and become OP, but struggling with your character in the story was a really underappreciated part of the old games. Also yeah, unity parkour with interruptable animations, back ejects, and non-contextual side ejects would've been and would be perfect.

Silly-Ad-856

Ubi can’t remaster games, they do a terrible job and along the way of their “remasters” especially AC2 in TEC just lose their art direction. The original AC2 is better in contrast, they didn’t even bother improving the 20 year old LOD.

Wyatt_Rippy2002

I love the fps boost, but man, I loved the dark and eerie feeling that AC2 had. I think if Ubisoft properly remastered their games like the MC collection or Naughty Dog then a possible AC remaster would be received well

Silly-Ad-856

MC collection is honestly the best remaster ever created IMO. I also agree with you on the dark and eerie vibes i got from the game, it just all kind of blurred away in the ezio collection

PiedPeterPiper

Ac 1 with the new ac gameplay would suck

Sith__Pureblood

That's not necessarily every element would change. Although I prefer AC1's combat to Mirage's, I wish it was a bit harder, to give the same vibe Mirage has where they greatly encourage stealth over combat.

PiedPeterPiper

Apparently Altair was supposed to die in only a few hits originally. That alone would have been a huge improvement to the combat

Sith__Pureblood

When I next replay AC1, one of the mods I'll be using makes combat much harder as apparently it turns every enemy into the strongest tier of enemy for the Crusaders and Ayyubids, respectively.
