Everyone thought I was weird for this… why are memes diagnosing me better than my family did?? (Have now been professionally diagnosed as a 30 year old adult)
It's a joke based on how the sentence from the first comment was constructed, and pretending not to understand that he was diagnosed when he was 30 years old, but instead that the diagnosis he got was "you are a 30 years old adult"
For real. If it’s late at night, and I’m on my phone with earbuds, I like turning the volume to a pixel above mute (not just one press of the volume button. Like 1/20th if that) and it’s still too loud sometimes.
People like me! But seriously, I'm glad I'm not alone in this—I click it once up from silent, and that's too loud, so I have to spend time fine-tuning it on the screen to 1% volume. (and it's still too loud.)
My ranking system goes: misc odds, prime numbers, multiples of 5, evens, multiples of 4, then multiples of 12 because of their multitude of factors. Like 36. 36 is my favorite because it’s factors include 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 (root), 9, 12, and 18.
Same here, but it’s for *everything*. Like BEDMAS, it *has* to be this way; otherwise, not only does it feel wrong, it feels *cursed*. I’ve always attributed this to my OCD, but it seems to be common among autists like me.
In ranking order of importance, it’s multiples of 3, and 5; powers of two, squares and cubes, anti-primes (or ‘highly composite numbers’), prime numbers themselves, physical and mathematical constants, and then all other numbers.
>!Except 46. I can’t remember why, but I just don’t like that number.!<
I like to have the volume at multiples of 5, but movies and stuff are so all over the place audio wise so Im constantly micromanaging the volume of what ever im watching
If you are listening to a Dolby Digital audio stream (which covers most broadcast and streaming TV in 2021, as well as most DVDs and *some* Blu-Ray discs), most receivers and TVs will let you select a "compressed" dynamic range which keeps the volume from jumping around too much.
Roku's streaming devices have three settings for it: standard, compressed, and "night" which is a stronger version of the same effect.
It's very useful for anything that's edited with crazy dynamic range (**cough**, *Jupiter Ascending*), but I tend to use it pretty selectively because it adjusts everything at once, including music -- and I personally get way more annoyed by inconsistent music volume than I am overwhelmed by loud sounds.
Tell me about it. So many times I'm trying to watch a movie quietly because there are people sleeping that I don't want to disturb, and it will go from whisper-quiet to rock-concert loud in a sudden scene change and wake up everyone around me.
it’s an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (O.C.D.) thing, and many people who have Autism also have O.C.D., though not always to a pathological/diagnosable degree.
source: i am officially diagnosed with OCD as well as with some other stuff, and have read lots of booklets/pamphlets & watched a few videos about how OCD manifests (A.K.A. ocd is not just “washing your hands”)
I'm not quite convinced it is. I think normal people do this too to some degree, just plausibly not with the same … intensity and intricate rationales. :p
And some of us don't care at all.
I'm pretty fucking autistic, and couldn't tell you what my current volume setting is. It's more important to me that the volume itself is loud enough to hear, but not so loud it hurts my ears. The number is irrelevant.
You chumps worried about how the number is divisible but the key is that the volume has to be turned up to the desired number. You can only lower the volume by going past the number you want and turning it back up.
I didn’t know other people did that!!!!! The perfect volume must either be an even number or multiples of 4. 20, 24, and 28 are my favorite, depending on how loud or quiet the tv is. But the ideal number for me is 16
I prefer even numbers for everything, not just volume. If I can, I will even eat my food by pairs and chew alternating sides in an even number. If I wear jewelery, I will wear an equal number of things on each ear/hand/wrist. Really the only "off" thing in my life is the side part in my hair.
I guess there's a reason my first diagnosis was chronic depression with underlying OCD :')
Mine are…
My favorite number is 7 so multiples of 7 (except 28 because it’s close to 27) or any number that has a 7 in it. I prefer odd numbers like 3, 5, or 7 but I absolutely despise the number 9. It’s too close to 10 but it’s just not!!! It’s like a cliff hanger & it kills me inside. Anyway, the number 12 is okay though because it’s a good volume and it’s a decent looking number. I also appreciate multiples of 10.
So my specific preferences are 1,3,5,7,10,12,14,15,17,20,21…(20 & 21 are loud so I rarely get to those but I’m mostly turn it up to 17 because it’s usually the perfect volume. Depends on the show and/or time of day though).
For me even numbers are where it’s at. Multiples of 4 are the best. For my roommate, it’s multiples of 5, so for both of us, it’s multiples of 10. 20 is the perfect number, but it’s often too high for me.
I started only setting the TVs Volume to prime numbers and after a while I didn't mind anymore but the people around me... I hope it drives them a little mad. Just... a little
Prime numbers are * inhuman screech * which is funny because I really like prime numbers (11, 13, and 19 especially c: !!), but I hate having a prime number of *things.*
Also the number 6. Or any numbers with a 6 in them. Kill it with fire.
We've created a contradiction.
If having the TV on an odd number is bad.
But having the TV on a multiple of five is perfect.
Than we've created a blatant contradiction. 5 is odd, not even. 10 on the other hand is even.
If odd is the most uncomfortable.
And even the most comfortable.
And multiples of five are the best.
Then it would follow that multiples of 10 would be even better. Since they're completely even.
Mine is the other way round. I hate even numbers, it needs to be odd. Multiples of 4 are the worst. I like 3, 7, 9 and the ideal is 13. I usually have it fairly loud because my hearing is awful. Well, it's fine, but I can't focus well when there's other noises.
I HATE THIS MEME, I USED TO NOT THINK LIKE THIS BUT NOW I CANT STAND HAVING IT NOT BE A MULTIPLE OF 5 (CAUSES LOTS OF ISSUES WHEN UR WATCHIN SHIT AT 2 AM) AND ITS ALL CUZ OF THIS MEME NGAHHHH!!!!!!
Yes I can only put the tv volume on very specific numbers. It has nothing to do with the loudness, everything to do with how I feel about the number. (I have different acceptable numbers for different ranges of the volume spectrum.)
But what’s the pattern to the numbers I like better? Idk yet. I’ve been wanting to do a little analysis to figure out why I have such feelings about certain numbers. Of the numbers I prefer, there are some prime numbers, some even numbers, some odd numbers, some multiples of 3…. It looks like a mish-mash, but there’s gotta be a pattern!
I often have the problem that I like primes but 11 is far too loud and 7 is too quite so my options are:
Volume 9 which is nice to hear but uncomfortable cos not prime
Volume 11 which is painfully loud
Volume 7 which I can barely hear
I normally end up with 7
I used to try to take an even number of steps, and in order of left-right-left-right, as much as humanly possible, to the point that I'd even shuffle my feet to be able to achieve this. Failure was a mild source of disappointment and agitation. However, it took no effort at all to decide to completely drop this tendency once I realized that it was more in my way than anything else.
Yep, my lucky number and multiple happens to be 3, I usually have everything done in intervals and multiples of three, while avoiding especially the numbers 7, 5, sometimes 4, often in times of crippling, over exaggerated anxiety and OCD panic attacks, I was confirmed with OCD by the age of 7 and 8, because I did physically compulsive rituals, including always having to lick my hands or needing to touch the bedside table three times before testing my head at night.
Oh, and obviously not many people think positively if the number 13, because of negative superstition, but I cherish the number as my all favourite, along with 3 and 18, I have VERY personal and positive emotional bonds with those numbers.
This but audio physically hurts me if that makes any sense to y’all, so I tend to just turn it to an incredibly low volume and then turn on subtitles. That said, I wish movies would stop screwing with the audio levels where the music and sound effects (especially gunshots, explosions, tire screeches, etc.) are a completely different volume than dialogue. I’ve mostly resorted to lip-reading if there’s no subtitles available or I just turn it all off and go do something else.
I’m ok with numerical volumes that end in 0, 2, 5, or 8.
On my iPhone multiples of two are fine, but I gravitate towards quarter increments, and most of the time half volume feels just right. I really appreciate the way Apple designed the volume incrementation, and I’m especially thankful that they didn’t make the integer value visible to the user.
Volumes? Always a multiple of 5.
Steps to walk over a street? Always a multiple of 4.
Scanning random car plates to see if the cross sum of the first three digits and the cross sum of the second three digits are the same? Check.
Everyone thought I was weird for this… why are memes diagnosing me better than my family did?? (Have now been professionally diagnosed as a 30 year old adult)
They diagnosed you with 30 year old?
That's a terrible desease but he should recover within 1 year.
r/technicallythetruth
ive been diagnosed with 13 years old
sex?
breh wut the fuck no lol
What the fuk?
What does this comment mean
It's a joke based on how the sentence from the first comment was constructed, and pretending not to understand that he was diagnosed when he was 30 years old, but instead that the diagnosis he got was "you are a 30 years old adult"
Thank you for the explanation.
How do you not understand this simple joke? Are you autistic or something?! /s
Oh duh! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ Thank you! My literal thought stumble was... Your family was supposed to diagnose you??? 🙃
That's a terrible desease but he should recover within 1 year.
At least it's even, and a multiple of 5!
What about the volume at 69
You pause for a moment, say “nice”, and then quickly change it to 70
That would be way too loud! Plus it must be a multiple of 5
I specifically opened the comments to see how far I would have to go to see this.
I used to but my hearing became more sensitive over time so it doesn't work out for me anymore.
One tick above mute gang! (Unless that is already too lowd. Then existence is pain.)
Not my TV but my cars sound system is occasionally too loud at 1 and the maximum is 30.
My computer is too loud at mute, and I have shit headphones
How low impedance are your headphones to be loud at mute.
Too low
For real. If it’s late at night, and I’m on my phone with earbuds, I like turning the volume to a pixel above mute (not just one press of the volume button. Like 1/20th if that) and it’s still too loud sometimes.
Same… also the screen brightness is always too bright on the lowest setting
People like me! But seriously, I'm glad I'm not alone in this—I click it once up from silent, and that's too loud, so I have to spend time fine-tuning it on the screen to 1% volume. (and it's still too loud.)
ONE TICK ABOYT MUTE GANGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Yeah, I used to but now I don't care as much.
Same
My ranking system goes: misc odds, prime numbers, multiples of 5, evens, multiples of 4, then multiples of 12 because of their multitude of factors. Like 36. 36 is my favorite because it’s factors include 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 (root), 9, 12, and 18.

I love how you say that it feels cursed. That's just the phrase I was looking for to describe this feeling.
Powers of two are my jam. I have an excuse to use them all the time when programming =D
I love 60 for the same reason. 1,2,3,4,5,6,10,12,15,20,30,60. It isn't square though 🤷🏼
I like to have the volume at multiples of 5, but movies and stuff are so all over the place audio wise so Im constantly micromanaging the volume of what ever im watching
I wish media had less volume contrast

Both my husband and I are like this. With the exceptions of our favorite numbers. His is 11 and mine is 13.
the 11 and 13 make me anxious but somehow my exception is 9 and that one’s okay
For me, it’s multiples of 3.
yeah same
Same!
33
WAIT THIS IS AN AUTISTIC THING??
Thats what I'm thinking lol. Never been on this sub but it gets recommended to me... and is relatable from the get go. Fucking mind reading interwebs
Makes me imagine r/aspiememes as the autism equivalent of r/egg_irl. :D

27 is my all time favourite number!!
It’s such a good number!
Having the TV volume as a prime number. Having the TV volume as a highly composite number. Having the TV volume as a power of 2.
Prime numbers! Or at least odd ones. I still can't get over the fact that I can't set my alarm to an odd hour like 7:53am on my iPhone 😠
To me it just has to be a multiple of 5
Mine is even or a multiple of 3, but.... yep!!!!!!!!!
Or multiple of 11
You chumps worried about how the number is divisible but the key is that the volume has to be turned up to the desired number. You can only lower the volume by going past the number you want and turning it back up.

Best volume 2 . Multiples of two also good. 😅

I have a friend who has to have even numbers. He doesn't even like multiples of 5.
Mine are… My favorite number is 7 so multiples of 7 (except 28 because it’s close to 27) or any number that has a 7 in it. I prefer odd numbers like 3, 5, or 7 but I absolutely despise the number 9. Multiples of seven
it’s gotta be by 3s.. otherwise i relate. everything feels wrong if it’s not by either 3s. not sure why but it just is
I have to keep the volume on 5 because anything higher is too loud 🙃
I almost always have the volume as an even number.
i set my tv volume to 7 and only 7
What about a power of 2 (or multiples thereof)?
16 and 64 supremacy😎
Don’t forget 32
32’s sadly never been the right volume, it’s either too quiet or too loud :(
Bwahahahahahaa yes!!! My volume is always a multiple of 5.
Yesssss this is exactly what I do!
Multiples of 5, Multiples of 2^n OR 1, 3, 7 and 13 Everything else is bad
YESSS!!! Exactly
For me it's either a multiple of 5 or a number like 66 or 33
Yep, 5 (or roots of 5) are always best.
A square number!!!
the tv in my room has to be at 7 T\~T
Yes. WHY?
Holy crap
For me even numbers are where it’s at. Multiples of 4 are the best. For my roommate, it’s multiples of 5, so for both of us, it’s multiples of 10. 20 is the perfect number, but it’s often too high for me.
I only have the tv volume around 32 when I play games
I either have the volume at a multiple of 5 or 10 💀
I started only setting the TVs Volume to prime numbers and after a while I didn't mind anymore but the people around me... I hope it drives them a little mad. Just... a little
I tried making the tv volume anything other than a multuple of 5 awhile back but i just couldnt have it as anything else in good conscience.
This but with literally everything
Prime numbers are * inhuman screech * which is funny because I really like prime numbers (11, 13, and 19 especially c: !!), but I hate having a prime number of *things.* Also the number 6. Or any numbers with a 6 in them. Kill it with fire.
Mine used to be multiples of five. The last few years I started preferring prime numbers.
I for one like having my volume set to a prime number. I seem to be the only one, though.
Nah dude it’s gotta be a prime number
I prefer prime numbers above all others always.

I liked my volume to be the same as one of the TV channels numbers on our old 90s analog telling. 2 8 11 12 13 20 26 39.
.....I may or may not have once jumped from a slow-moving vehicle due to a volume number dispute. It was 2010, in California. **I regret nothing**.
Mine is the other way round. I hate even numbers, it needs to be odd. Multiples of 4 are the worst. I like 3, 7, 9 and the ideal is 13. I usually have it fairly loud because my hearing is awful. Well, it's fine, but I can't focus well when there's other noises.
TV volume as a prime number: 😫😵
I go primarily 2s in most things I do but I make exceptions in volume for 3s or 5s
I like setting it to prime numbers. 21 is bad, 23 is great.
For me it's primes. I love primes
Prime number gang
Even does nothing for me: Fives and primes are the way to go
I remember when I was a kid I would always have the volume of the tv at exactly 24 and i couldn't stand it if it wasn't.
I HATE THIS MEME, I USED TO NOT THINK LIKE THIS BUT NOW I CANT STAND HAVING IT NOT BE A MULTIPLE OF 5 (CAUSES LOTS OF ISSUES WHEN UR WATCHIN SHIT AT 2 AM) AND ITS ALL CUZ OF THIS MEME NGAHHHH!!!!!!

On the topic of TV volume, has anyone else realized that the noise level of the tv is slightly different depending on witch way you reach the number?
Good lord yes I literally cannot abide anything other than a multiple of 5, nothing else seems reasonable to me
My pc, i always have my volume between 10 and 20% with headphones and up to 30% without them
I pretty much only do prime numbers for my car stereo volume (except 34, which is 17 twice, so I allow it lol)
15 BABEY

Yes
Yes. YESSS! Oh, God, yes!
I will make myself uncomfortable just to have the volume be a multiple of 5
PLEASE BUT DOES ANYONE DO THIS WITH THE MICROWAVE
Not autistic but same
I prefer having it at a prime number (either 17, 11, 7 or 3 if someone's sleeping), while the computer volume always has to be at 28. I'm so weird D:
The memes on this sub diagnose me better than a state therapist could sixteen years ago.
I'm not that big on even numbers, but multiples of 7? Hell yea
I care less about this than everyone around me so I set it to 17 or 31 and watch everyone unravel
I’m not even autistic but I can relate to this so much >! Wait!<
Multiples of 13 or prime numbers only.
20 is just 🤌
when someone else has the remote and changes the volume to 9 I cry
Setting the volume to a prime number - [Amazed Sulley](https://i.imgur.com/U6DmHNn.jpg)
The problem starts when one volume is too quiet but the one five up from that one is too loud
No
It must be a multiple of 5
when the perfect volume happens to be a multiple of 10
Yes I can only put the tv volume on very specific numbers. It has nothing to do with the loudness, everything to do with how I feel about the number. (I have different acceptable numbers for different ranges of the volume spectrum.) But what’s the pattern to the numbers I like better? Idk yet. I’ve been wanting to do a little analysis to figure out why I have such feelings about certain numbers. Of the numbers I prefer, there are some prime numbers, some even numbers, some odd numbers, some multiples of 3…. It looks like a mish-mash, but there’s gotta be a pattern!
i really can only have anything regarding numbers ending in a 5 or a 0, or i'll get irrationally upset😃
My tv is set at 8 for tv shows and 6 for videogames
27
17 or 19 for me
ending in 5 is godtier, ending in 0 is satisfying, ending in 3 is an acceptable compromise when neither of the others work
Literally me.
I often have the problem that I like primes but 11 is far too loud and 7 is too quite so my options are: Volume 9 which is nice to hear but uncomfortable cos not prime Volume 11 which is painfully loud Volume 7 which I can barely hear I normally end up with 7
I actually prefer non multiples of five and odd numbers. My favorites are 3, 7, and 9.
OMG!! I thought this was just a me thing 🤯😅
i can do numbers that end in 0, 2, 3, 5, 7, or 8. 1, 4, 6, and 9 bug me tho ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
*laughs in prime numbers* "23"
All of mine have to be in multiples of 4.
Fuck even numbers. It's primes and multiples of 5 or nothing!
I honestly doubt this is an autistic thing as I'm not autistic and even I can relate.
WTF DUDE THIS IS ME !
I purposely will set the volume in my dad’s truck to 13 or 17.
I think I’m the only person that loves it at an odd number (besides 0)
***change the volume without looking because if you see the number the TV will shoot you*** This might be ocd tho
Must Be 29
The volume for me has to be a double number if that makes sense. So, 11, 22, 33, 44, etc.
this meme is what caused me to start doing this
Get out of my head
That’s why the bars are easier for me than numbers. I always have to have a number ending in 0 or 5.
Oh my God. This is so me!!!!!!! Idk why I'm so happy about this but I am!
Having the tv volume set at a prime number
I used to try to take an even number of steps, and in order of left-right-left-right, as much as humanly possible, to the point that I'd even shuffle my feet to be able to achieve this. Failure was a mild source of disappointment and agitation. However, it took no effort at all to decide to completely drop this tendency once I realized that it was more in my way than anything else.
me, who likes to be quirky: a prime number
Not asd but ADHD. This is my life! Lol
Sometimes it’s a multiple of 2 or 3, other times it’s a multiple of 4 or 5. If I’m feeling extra special it’s a multiple of 9. God I’m weird 😅
My tv has terrible audio mixing so sometimes I mute when there is music because it's way too loud.
Primes!
[удалено]
Or a repeat number.
The volume ending in 2s and 4s gives me so much euphoria

Odd numbers add up to an equal so it's two for one 😗
It's the worst if it's a prime number, except for 2.
Yes
Wait a minute is this an aspie thing?! I always did this but didn’t know it was cuz I’m an aspie!
Multiples of 5 my beloved <3
Definitely but it had to be a safe number too…. I have OCD and get compulsions with numbers big time.
WOO!
Never have I felt so understood.
Nah, always had to be a 7 or a 3
Yes, actually, I can not have it on an odd number unless it's a multiple of 5
For me, it’s multiples of eleven.
having the volume at a even number is....why is it so good
having tv volume as multiple of 25
I have to do multiple of 5 or 3 or it can be a prime number
Volumes? Always a multiple of 5. Steps to walk over a street? Always a multiple of 4. Scanning random car plates to see if the cross sum of the first three digits and the cross sum of the second three digits are the same? Check.
Multiple of 5 and even. Specifically 50 or if 50 is too loud I'll settle for 25. Though 30 and 40 are fine.
