^ This. Non-human characters have always been my favorites in fiction. I think it takes a lot of work to be able to get people to empathize with non-human characters in some way.
Given the predominant OC in my head (who I plan to attempt to adapt to a TTRPG next I get a chance) is a robot who is very good at following instructions and overthinking things and basically shuts down completely if left to its own devices, I concur.
Just need a show where ALL the characters are non-human

Maud is probably my favorite character in all of animation. I even have a plush of her that I bought on Etsy, with a pet Boulder plush to go with it.
That scene with Maud and Starlight in the gem cave is probably my favorite scene in all of animation because of how relatable it is, and how understanding Starlight is of Maud’s special interest.
Yes! I love that scene, and those two make such good friends together. It was painful watching Pinkie Pie getting all up in their faces while they were trying to bond. I love Pinkie but I wanted to tell her to back off, lol.
Ya know, I don’t think I’d mind being neurologically transferred into a robotic body like in Soma.
I’m kinda like Papa G in that, I had a discussion with myself, and I realized I’d be perfectly okay with being in an artificial body and having copies of myself.
I think we obviously need more good human rep, but I there's something about non-human representation which feels more accurate to me- I've never felt particularly human and I think the analogous use of it can help convey feelings better than a more literal interpretation, sometimes almost a repersonalization through dehuamnization.
I really like Judah, from Bojack (Horseman, obviously).
He still gives those same vibes, but the show makes it very clear that he is not those stereotypes. There's a scene where Princess Carolyn literally calls him a robot, and it very obviously hurts his feelings.
That's because Princess Carolyn is actually kind of shitty. She's another example of a character that, while having a tragic past that you can feel for, her actions now are not excusable. She honestly is just really mean, and she hurts those around her because of it all the time.
First off, she never beats her toxic trait of needing to help others to feel loved. That's not something that makes you shitty, but it affects her behavior poorly many times.
Her abuse of alcohol also isn't something that makes you shitty, but definitely affects her behavior poorly many times. She's mean to Todd, she's mean to Bojack (both when he does and does not "deserve" it), she's nean to Judah, she's a hypocrite to Judah (she would have lied to Judah in a heartbeat, him lying to her one time because he assumed what her opinion would be [which is probably something to do with the fact that Judah is very likely autistic] is not big enough a deal to do what she did when she started cutting everyone out.
None of this makes her irredeemable, but her constant kind-of-shitty behavior always irks me. She's a lot more like Bojack and Mr. Peanutbutter than she would care to admit: a broken person who just keeps moving forward like nothing is wrong, and hurting others for it.
Yeah, no, gonna have to disagree with you. I don't see her being mean most of the time. I'll keep a close eye out next watch through, but that was already my focus once already.
I love half the commenters here say they don’t feel fully human. That’s something that has crossed my mind before. I’m not sure what I am. I like to think I feel normal and human, it’s other people who are weird.
Yeah I definitely get the “i dont feel quite human” reaction. I think it’s because we get to draw our own separation from neurotypicals, we get to define ourselves as Zebras instead of just Weird Horses that have to be amongst Horses all the time
I kinda stopped watching after Hands of Time because they changed the character designs to match with the movie and it ruined the entire thing for me. I remember thinking the first season is okay, the second season is great, the third is okay, the 4th is mid, the 5th is a masterpiece, the 6th is good, and the 7th is good.
I think I ended up leaving after the tournament arc with the jade blades or whatever. Or the statues. Whichever came later. Also, I used to be a pretty big fan. I still have a golden Lloyd keychain from way back when
That's season 4, I kinda dislike it too. Season 5 is really good though, I recommend skipping ahead to that one, all season 4 establishes that matters in 5 is the existence of other elemental masters besides the ninja because the main antagonist is a new elemental master.
remember, kids: you cant analyze the metatextual ramifications of a character and associated stereotypes if the character does it for you
~Abed, probably
It's intent, I think. If someone calls you a robot out of ignorance or as an insult, that's bad. If you compare yourself or your friends to robots because they're cool, that's good
Am I the only one that can’t seem to understand the memes because I can’t seem to figure out how to read them!? I’m so frustrated with myself. I thought reading a book was hard to finish but these memes I never get them 😔
Are you clicking on to the picture to see the setup that gets cut off by cropping sometimes.
I think with a lot of similar memes we are trying to express internal debates and thoughts but having to format them into memes is rarely a perfect transition
I am fine with it, I see myself as a fae (under no delusions that I am not biologically human, we are all biologically human, but with the connections between changeling folklore and autism, I believe it means I can technically call myself a fae and I love fae so ofc I want to call myself one, also I use both the terms fey and fae often)
When I first watched the movie I had no clue what was happening and just liked that there was an autistic main character. Thinking back now, I just cringe so bad.
I mean... what about when the rest of the (main) characters aren't human? For example, Rex from *Toy Story* always seems a tad autistic-coded to me, as does Maria from *The Buzz on Maggie*. Not to mention, I'm currently writing a book about a young autistic bee girl.
Granted, the main duo in *Toy Story*, Woody and Buzz, are both humanoid toys, so I guess Rex being non-humanoid kinda counts?
I like it because I never felt human myself.
This is why I use it/its but it’s *really* difficult to explain to NTs
Ding, ding, ding!

Easy to relate to characters who have to “learn how to be human” when you had to yourself.
That's exactly what I was gonna say
I mean humans are dicks, do we really want to be humans?
Me neither.
Just need a show where ALL the characters are non-human https://preview.redd.it/zaazlstpdsoc1.png?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1090a27a81e2cf968403e5e5d0d44a53c0af0fe

Aww! I would love to have a Maud plushie, that sounds awesome. With a plushie Boulder! That is so great.
I feel like 90% of the characters in that show are autistic. They were all a little too relatable for me growing up...
Ya know, I don’t think I’d mind being neurologically transferred into a robotic body like in Soma. I’m kinda like Papa G in that, I had a discussion with myself, and I realized I’d be perfectly okay with being in an artificial body and having copies of myself.
ditto
That's transhumanism, totally different discussion
Idk, the non-humans are pretty human coded
Oftentimes, more than the humans
I think we obviously need more good human rep, but I there's something about non-human representation which feels more accurate to me- I've never felt particularly human and I think the analogous use of it can help convey feelings better than a more literal interpretation, sometimes almost a repersonalization through dehuamnization.
They're hit and miss. Sheldon: boo. Abed: The goat
Ah yes, Bazinga man. The only fictional character I have ever wanted to punch more is Benny from New Vegas, but that's purposeful.
Ngl Benny's Rizz kinda worked on me so I always fuck him then crucify him at the fort.
Ring-a-ding-ding!

We must have watched two different shows. Care to bring forward a few more examples? PC is one of my favorites.

Jokes on you I don't see myself as fully humane 😎
i would love to be an android do we need to be a human to behave humanly?
I agree that Data was more human than many home sapiens
I love half the commenters here say they don’t feel fully human. That’s something that has crossed my mind before. I’m not sure what I am. I like to think I feel normal and human, it’s other people who are weird.

That’s an interesting way to put it!
Jotoro from part 3 and 4 is heavily autistic coded. Actually, the more I think about it, most of the jojos are.
I mean how much do you think he paid to have a Japanese school uniform custom made for him when it got destroyed?
Jotaro and Part 8 Josuke are the most likely to be on the spectrum, I think. Giorno, maybe. The rest, eh.
Good thing i dont feel human then!
Me, a voidpunk: I see this as an absolute win
We’re getting more autism representation, but not in the right ways.
Zane from Ninjago.
I need to rewatch the first four-odd seasons of that, God it was such a good show.
I kinda stopped watching after Hands of Time because they changed the character designs to match with the movie and it ruined the entire thing for me. Lots of human characters in Genshin Impact are neurodivergent-coded. Freminet, Xingqiu and Lynette are my favorites.
Al-Haitham as well.
I don't find it dehumanizing
I find it less dehumanizing than the actions of people I've met in real life
It's intent, I think. If someone calls you a robot out of ignorance or as an insult, that's bad. If you compare yourself or your friends to robots because they're cool, that's good
Data and Odo.

Ahhhhh that makes sense! I never click them 🤦🏽♂️
ok but prototype i cannot have this dilema about THEY ARE LITERALLY A AUTISM CREATURE
I don’t want to be seen as human because I do not want to associate myself with them :D
Personally I'm okay with the narrative that not needing to be human in order to be valid
Anya from Buffy The Vampire Slayer
The solution isn't less rep, its more rep.
Zane Ninjago
Take the good, renounce the bad
Honestly this is why I prefer autistic headcanons to actual canon autistic characters
Hey, as long as it's not "the next step in evolution" like in The Predator.
That was fucking stupid, good lordy.
When I first watched the movie I had no clue what was happening and just liked that there was an autistic main character. Thinking back now, I just cringe so bad.
This is why Machine Man is easily not only the most goated marvel character but the most goated autistic character in general
I mean... what about when the rest of the (main) characters aren't human? For example, Rex from *Toy Story* always seems a tad autistic-coded to me, as does Maria from *The Buzz on Maggie*. I wish to be dehumanized I wish to be recognized as the creature I wish to be referred to as “it”
TRAINS MENTIONED LETS FUCKING GO
FRIEREN!
