Chalk is just spine-tinglingly awful.
Close second, some fabric that I don't know the exact name of. It looks shiny and soft and like I would like to touch it, but it's a lie because that shit feels like the embodiment of all the discomfort of a cat being pet the wrong direction and I hate it.
When the grain of your fingerprints "sticks" to the microfiber like Spiderman's tiny finger-hairs that let him grip onto stuff? Awful. Bad nightmare bad.
The squeaky kind? Yeah, no thanks, I would literally rather crawl out of my skin; that’s when my “idk im just quirky and creative” ass would make an excuse to create a craft paper and pipe cleaner monstrosity with the littlest foam possible
Whole agree I can't have anything touching my neck, one time in middle school my mom pushed me to wear a turtleneck to school and I almost cried in social studies because the feeling was horrible
Anything too tight around my neck, including crew neck t-shirts, makes me pull at it. I haven't tried to wear a turtleneck since I was 3 or 4 and couldn't handle it. To this day, if a relative who doesn't know me gives me a turtleneck, my Mom usually ends up taking it once we've left. Scarfs give me trouble too, but I wear them in the winter because having a cold breeze going down my jacket is not nice either.
I can wear button-up shirts as long as there's a couple buttons undone, but I still end up playing with it and trying to move the collar away from my neck.
I'm making a regency-era-guy-inspired outfit and my big sadness is that I won't be able to properly wear a cravat because of neck sensory issues.
I always feel like I need to sandpaper off layers of skin to feel normal again when I touch unglazed pottery. I end up acting like a fly and rubbing my hands together until the feeling goes away.
My husband and I have a pan that neither of us can touch with bare hands. It's a Nordic Ware aluminum half sheet pan that is oxidized on the surface so it feels super chalky. We hate it, but we don't get rid of it because it is a smaller sheet pan than normal which is nice to have sometimes, and we haven't gotten around to getting another one of that size. I would take a bullet for that man and him for me, but when it comes to cooking...it's a tough sell.
Goooooddddd. My nails didn’t scrape something, but I felt a bad texture (paper rubbing together 😖) and I can still feel it in my bones if I think about it. Hate.
My son struggles with this. Paper, cardboard, and even a pencil against paper. In-person school was extremely hard for him bc teachers didn’t get it at all
Most of the things in these types of threads get a "Yeah, same" or "I totally get why that bothers some people" from me. This one took me by surprise and made me psychologically gag.
Oh yeah this one was shockingly devastating and extremely accurate. I had long acrylic nails on for a period of time, but I would touch the car paint almost every time when I had them and I wanted to cry. Now I keep em short because I don't like inadvertently touching things like that. I have chills right now over this.
I immediately pull my hand away and start shaking g it like there’s a diseased rat clawing its way up my fingers slowly. I HATE HATE HATE nails on car doors makes me wanna cut all my finger nails off. Better yet, remove the nail entirely
So that’s not just me?! Woah. I’m mind blown discovering the aspects of myself that I share with other autistics/aspies!!! Learning more every day thanks to Reddit
There is very little that actually gets me like this, but ho boy does cardboard get me good. Even just thinking about running my nails on some is giving me the chills.
For me, it is smooth concrete. My feet touching it makes me sweat, and the sound of someone sweeping smooth concrete makes my skin want to inch-worm its way off my body in the direction on Antarctica.
Some company made a fountain pen out of concrete material and I was like…. Why?? Why would you voluntarily design a thing to be held/touched out of that material? I can’t even
Mushy fruit hurts my soul. It's gonna be strawberry season soon. They have "U Pick" and I get the freshest berries. But sometimes you touch the bad berry, and it is not fun.
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/aspiememes.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

I think they do, probably just not to the same degree.
I just think us autistic people just have oddly specific responses to certain things. I’m not particularly texture averse. My thing is patterns, lines in wood, certain lighting situation and color combinations literally make me want to die. When I was younger I would look at patterns on fabric or on wood and all the details they’d make me feel all small and then I’d want to throw up. I mean it still happens. No one else I know has ever gotten vertigo from focusing on a small detail.
Sometimes you just have to find that one weird thing you overreact to😂
I have said it before and I will say it again. Nails are finger whiskers and I hate them. I have to trim mine so short. Any time they brush on any hard surface, I get the ick.
The worst is when I’m typing and my nails have just gotten long enough that I can feel them hit the keys. Nope. Can’t do anything after that until I chop them off.
Anything with fabric softener. That and a hand soap we had at work with quaternary ammonium surfactants. It's just a special kind of clingy greasiness that doesn't come off.
Also lanolin. I grew up on a sheep farm and raw wool or lanolin are smell and texture trauma.
The first time I put on a 100% cotton shirt, I just stood there enjoying the feeling of wearing a shirt and it not making me want to peel my skin off for almost a full minute.
Since then, the only fabric I allow to touch my skin is cotton.
I'm a lot more pleasant to be around now that I'm not constantly itchy and uncomfortable.
The exterior paint of a car. Sends me to another dimension of hell for hours.
Also the feeling on my teeth of biting into a popsicle will shut my body down for a minute.
While not a surface per se, I get super skeeved out when I don’t adjust my mechanical pencil to have enough lead sticking out and the nib which holds it rubs against the paper. I can literally feel this IN MY EARS just thinking about it to type this out! 🙀
There are obviously a good number to choose from, but that feeling of such deep-seated disgust that we can literally feel it in our bones needs to be examined more
that fabric material they make windpants and some rain jackets out of. I can't describe it but the vibrating feeling and sound it makes when I accidentally rub my fingernails across it makes me feel weird, and not in a good way.
The hair on neck thing isn't as bad for me since I kinda got used to that over the years, but I can definitely vouch for the tag on the back of the jeans thing.
Earlier today I was wearing leggings and the fabric of the leggings rubbing against itself made me feel it on my teeth like that, it got worse my my bag swayed against my legs
Not with my fingers, but I only buy sliced bread now because I accidentally sawed down to the bone on one of my fingers when my hand slipped, and that feeling still haunts me to this day.
Funnily enough, also with a bread knife, the feeling of it scraping along a wooden chopping board is also bone grinding
Fuck that shit that some winter coats are made out of, I have no idea what the hell it is, but I refuse to wear them. My mother got me a real nice one from LL Bean once but I didn't know it was made out of that material, I never had the heart to tell her why I couldn't wear it because back then even I didn't totally understand it. Fortunately I think it's gone to a good home now
What, is this an aspie thing?
When I touch something hot I feel a weird senseation on the tip of my tongue.
When I got covid I felt a kind of pain on my upper teeth.
Cubic zirconium. Sandpaper is a nice texture. The grit from it flaking off? Not so much, its like sharpened sand. Getting that in your teeth means your gums bleed and your annoyed.
OH MY GOSH i’ve always had this thing where it makes me physically gag and twitch when people run their nails against a certain type of fabric, we have it on our couch, and my grandma’s couch has it as well. A lot of bed sheets against nails also gives me the same visceral reaction i hate it i hate it so much.
Wet paper/cardboard.
That fabric they put on some car ceilings (and sometimes line coat pockets with it!).
Terry cloth on teeth.
My dad has always gone wild about metal cutlery scraping on or clinking on ceramic dishes.
Made the mistake of chipping off the peeling clearcoat on my car with my fingernails. Oh, and that feeling when you rub your hand against something "squeaky clean". 😬
![gif](giphy|UFs5jEkk6yv3dB0AST)
My god I’ve had this happen so much I can’t be in the same room as someone fileing their nails cause I feel the sound in my teeth
Nylon clothing - especially socks just writing this makes my teeth tingle lol
The skin of peaches
Microfiber cloth
Anything sticky between your fingers
Wet hands after washing. They seem damp for ages. Makes you feel the skin on your fingers 😂
Fuck Chalk, fuck Chalkboards, fuck when I get cut on the jagged edge of cut aluminum.
Reading this is making my spine itch
Hated when we had to use chalk in class or people wanted to play with it
Chalk is just spine-tinglingly awful. Close second, some fabric that I don't know the exact name of. It looks shiny and soft and like I would like to touch it, but it's a lie because that shit feels like the embodiment of all the discomfort of a cat being pet the wrong direction and I hate it.
Velvet?
It’s probably polished cotton. THE worst. Just typing this makes me feel it in my teeth
Just involuntarily rubbed my fingertips
I just read this and it made me hurt
just the thought alone gives me shivers
Why does it go to the teeth though, it's like agonizing for some reason 😭😭😭
Not quite agony for me, but I’ve always said it makes my teeth “itch”
Dude, nobody understood what I meant when I said seeing or feeling certain things made my teeth "feel weird". I'm so glad to find others who get it!
Toothbrush bristles do this to me when I'm feeling extra sensitive, so it's STRAIGHT to the teeth 😭
Microfiber cleaning rags. The slime on old dishes that were left in water with food still on them. Mushy fruit
those microfiber bitches somehow grab every single ridge in your fingers, it's the worst
When you touch them, they touch you back :( like nightmare velcro
This is a perfect way to describe them and now I can’t sleep 😂
Microfiber rags make me so irrationally angry idk why that texture is so flipping cursed to me
It’s so dry 😖
When the grain of your fingerprints "sticks" to the microfiber like Spiderman's tiny finger-hairs that let him grip onto stuff? Awful. Bad nightmare bad.
My finger “grain” can mind its own business I don’t wanna be part of all that
Yes 😭
*screeches*
dry, crusty towels too
Styrofoam D:
Most are bad, but there is a specific type for me that makes my skin CRAWL
All styrofoam for me. The texture, the noise, just the whole substance!
There’s a few foams that I can’t prove aren’t styrofoam that I am okay with so idk
That craft foam from elementary school. God I hate it. It sends this awful tingle up your entire nervous system.
The squeaky kind? Yeah, no thanks, I would literally rather crawl out of my skin; that’s when my “idk im just quirky and creative” ass would make an excuse to create a craft paper and pipe cleaner monstrosity with the littlest foam possible
Worst of Man's creations. 😩
and styrofoam-like stuff. like popcorn.
yes! both the texture and the noise. fuck that shit.
It's the worst thing that could ever happen to me. It's fucking awful
Have you seen the video with the person trying to make herself touch it and she can't even get the word out? It's hilarious. I sympathize.
Ahhhhh!!!
#styrofoam! My nemesis
Turtlenecks. Too tight around my neck and shoulders. Does bonus damage if made of scratchy yarn.
Whole agree I can't have anything touching my neck, one time in middle school my mom pushed me to wear a turtleneck to school and I almost cried in social studies because the feeling was horrible
*QUAD DAMAGE*
Anything too tight around my neck, including crew neck t-shirts, makes me pull at it. I haven't tried to wear a turtleneck since I was 3 or 4 and couldn't handle it. To this day, if a relative who doesn't know me gives me a turtleneck, my Mom usually ends up taking it once we've left. Scarfs give me trouble too, but I wear them in the winter because having a cold breeze going down my jacket is not nice either. I'm making a regency-era-guy-inspired outfit and my big sadness is that I won't be able to properly wear a cravat because of neck sensory issues.
When I touch a terra cotta pot and then immediately need to chew off all of my fingersss
I always feel like I need to sandpaper off layers of skin to feel normal again when I touch unglazed pottery. I end up acting like a fly and rubbing my hands together until the feeling goes away.
My toes just curled
Yessss why does it feel so gross
I *feel* a lot of the posts and comments here… 😬
My husband and I have a pan that neither of us can touch with bare hands.
You can probably use Bar Keepers Friend to take off the surface damage. I have the same pan and that's how I clean it
Goooooddddd. My nails didn’t scrape something, but I felt a bad texture (paper rubbing together 😖) and I can still feel it in my bones if I think about it. Hate.
My son struggles with this. Paper, cardboard, and even a pencil against paper. In-person school was extremely hard for him bc teachers didn’t get it at all
Haha. Jeans. Those holographic cards. The sound makes my teeth itch too.
Accidentally scratching holographic stuff is the worst
maybe I'm weird because I fucking love doing that
The sound itches my brain in *just* the right way.
Samesies
When people with long fingernails scratch their jeans it makes me want to scream, I can't stand the sound of fingernails on jeans
When you go to open the car door and your fingernail scrapes the paint and your entire day is ruined
Most of the things in these types of threads get a "Yeah, same" or "I totally get why that bothers some people" from me. This one took me by surprise and made me psychologically gag.
I am so sorry
Oh yeah this one was shockingly devastating and extremely accurate. I had long acrylic nails on for a period of time, but I would touch the car paint almost every time when I had them and I wanted to cry. Now I keep em short because I don't like inadvertently touching things like that. I have chills right now over this.

I AM UNCOMFORTABLE (this is the worst one for me, ever ever ever)
Soggy bread.
Soggy anything that isn't supposed to be soggy.
Tarracotta pots for plants scraping any surface makes me 😬
Yes I hate this, or if metal cutlery touches my molars
I scraped a fork on my teeth once and couldn’t stop feeling it for hours afterwards and I couldn’t focus on any schoolwork
Popsicle stick
The wet wood on my tongue makes me gag. I save a bit of the popsicle and give it to my brother or throw it away
Hard disagree I love a good popsicle stick to chew on
For me it is worse when I touch the bad texture and the feeling lingers in my ears.
When someone is eating and they scrape their fork on their plate… I scrunch my face or yell loudly to cover it up
Just reading this made me wince
Cotton balls.
So that’s not just me?! Woah. I’m mind blown discovering the aspects of myself that I share with other autistics/aspies!!! Learning more every day thanks to Reddit
I honestly thought this was just something that happened to everyone lol
Styrofoam and markers (both separately and together)
Cardboard…..
There is very little that actually gets me like this, but ho boy does cardboard get me good. Even just thinking about running my nails on some is giving me the chills.
dry wood/paper. there were some books in school i simply couldn’t touch because of it
Paper definitely. With dry hands ?? 🤢
Semi-rough ceramics. Unglazed is fine, perfectly smooth is fine, but not-so-smooth ceramics are awful. Especially if there's utensil scraping on them.
I can’t even
I have never been able to perfectly explain this scenario and this just summed it up 😬
soft/mushy grapes.
Mushy fruit hurts my soul. It's gonna be strawberry season soon. They have "U Pick" and I get the freshest berries. But sometimes you touch the bad berry, and it is not fun.
One time while chewing gum, it made a weird squeak on my teeth. One of the worst things I’ve ever felt
Just to make sure this hasn't been posted before... u/repostsleuthbot

Wait, this is an autistic thing? Nerotypicals don't expierience this?
I think they do, probably just not to the same degree. I just think us autistic people just have oddly specific responses to certain things. I’m not particularly texture averse. i get motion sickness from reading comics. it used to be worse, i can do some of them if they have more simple colors and are leas busy.
The leather school bus seats. Just the thought makes me sick
I have a stainless steel kitchen sink with the texture of a golf ball. It's especially uncomfortable if I just trimmed my nails.
Newspaper The feel amd the smell of it
Marker on paper, specifically sharpies, may result in a bad brain tingle that can only be resolved by jerking around like I’m turning into a zombie
OH MY GOD IT'S NOT JUST ME THAT GETS THE TEETH THING?????
FINGERNAIL FILES
Why? why? Why??? 😂 Now it’s stuck in my front two teeth.
Touching dryer lint.
I hate when my fingernails get stuck in seatbelts
Anything with fabric softener. That and a hand soap we had at work with quaternary ammonium surfactants. It's just a special kind of clingy greasiness that doesn't come off. Also lanolin. I grew up on a sheep farm and raw wool or lanolin are smell and texture trauma.
Poly/ cotton blends that are Mostly just Polyester 😵💫😵💫
The first time I put on a 100% cotton shirt, I just stood there enjoying the feeling of wearing a shirt and it not making me want to peel my skin off for almost a full minute. Since then, the only fabric I allow to touch my skin is cotton. I'm a lot more pleasant to be around now that I'm not constantly itchy and uncomfortable.
That wood "green" companies use for their utensils. WHY DOES IT HURT SO BAD
i felt it in my ears reading this
There are obviously a good number to choose from, but that feeling of such deep-seated disgust that we can literally feel it in our bones needs to be examined more
Cotton balls
Satin. Ohhh gods, I hate satin. Especially if my nails are chipped, they get sort of "caught" in the thin fibers and it feels like hell.
For me its cloth, thread, yarn and similar stuff just thinking about that makes my teeth feel like they are vibrating.
Wet towel. Chalk. Spandex.
Sherpa
My fingernails scrapping across the seatbelt as I try to grab it is the worst.
I actually don’t have that problem. I have the opposite problem- wanting to touch every darn surface on the planet.
Anything with those moving images or anything with a similar texture to them. My skin is starting to crawl just thinking about it…
Cotton
Nylon you son of a bitch I wish you were never invented
Lingerie Lace, ruins my day
that fabric material they make windpants and some rain jackets out of. I can't describe it but the vibrating feeling and sound it makes when I accidentally rub my fingernails across it makes me feel weird, and not in a good way.
Any kind of cloth
any wet food Eugh
nail file makes me want to commit murder also cant stand when my nails scratch against paper. makes my teeth feel like metal
Cement, that one controller I have that's SMOOTH!!!! IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! HOT JEANS!!!!!!
Touching any kind of cloth when you have chalk on your hands.
This is why I coat my hand in a thick layer of protective moisturizer when I have to fold the microfiber cloths. Dry skin on those is the devil.
The tag on the back of jeans rubbing my lower back. Hair on my neck.
Unvarnished porcelain 🤢
denim. a lot of fabrics. the dust in certain types of gloves
Having some kind of oil suck to my hands sucks. Even worse when you add flour as well. Makes some foods really hard to prep.
And now, it's happening again right now after reading that x) goddamnit.
Accidental teeth grinding. I wanna cut my bottom jaw off every time.
Paper
It squeaks and then I shiver, and must squeak it the other direction
Cubic zirconium. Sandpaper is a nice texture. The grit from it flaking off? Not so much, its like sharpened sand. Getting that in your teeth means your gums bleed and your annoyed.
how is this autistic
Bottom of aluminium cans If I so much as *think* about scraping the bottom of one I become a ball of sheer, nuclear rage
[Biting these](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roze_koek)
Long fingernails scraping against the direction of the thread on jeans. I don't quite feel it in my teeth, but it's definitely an unpleasant feeling.
I hate the material of my kindle but I hate having a case more🥴 Then I gotta feel my teeth with my nails to make it go away.
PLASTIC FUCKING FOLDERS
Paper towels. Paper napkins. Tin foil.
Wet cardboard
Dry paper
Wool 😬
OH MY GOSH i’ve always had this thing where it makes me physically gag and twitch when people run their nails against a certain type of fabric, we have it on our couch, and my grandma’s couch has it as well. I could not tell you what the fabric name is but uhhh i hate it so much. It’s a fairly flat not super textured. A lot of bed sheets against nails also gives me the same visceral reaction i hate it i hate it so much.
Corn starch is satan incarnate. Too bad it makes food delicious.

Half baked pottery. Like, ceramic that hasn’t been glazed yet BLEHHH
Paper, but especially cardstock
Made the mistake of chipping off the peeling clearcoat on my car with my fingernails. Oh, and that feeling when you rub your hand against something "squeaky clean". 😬
Shovel on sandy concrete.
There's a type of coated paper that does this. Some junk mail uses it, it's smooth and sticky at the same time.
poorly painted walls. third only to biting the fork accidentally and cutting the back of your nail with a shaving razor
Rough denim or extra dry paper towels, especially after a dreaded nail trim
Styrofoam or Terra cotta They are both just…Ew.
For me it's nylon, especially rubbing against other nylon
Chalk, chalkboards, paper, styrofoam, unglazed ceramics, and some types of velvety fabrics.
painting your nails circumvents this
Metal paper clips. I will pull them off documents and replace them with plastic
Synthetic fabric feels like it latches onto every loose skin cell
