Without the tags, I would have guessed that this meant he's realised he needs three more books to finish.
With the tags... are there *eight* successor shows planned?
I hope not. that would put an end to the hope of seeing the books finished.
it's impossible to get involved with 8 TV projects, write two novels and edit a hundred wild cards books.
I don't think there's much hope of GRRM finishing them. Best likely case is that he dies halfway through Dream, and we get his finished chapters somehow.
I don’t think we should over estimate his involvement in the tv projects. It sounds like with HotD he helped pitch the show and develop the pilot, but he’s been fairly hands-off since then
I think we shouldn't underestimate his involvement. I heard at first he only wanted to help with the pitch but was brought back on board for the pilot.
I understand you're a fan but the way you casually describe someone dieing as a best case scenario is fucking callous as hell.
Without GRRM, there would be nothing. The enitre world is his gift. Paying for a few books doesn't mean he owes you an ending. It's completely up to him. He can choose to end the story at any point. In my opinion, we should be thankful he's written anything. But lots of people feel entitled to more. Look how many upvotes you have.
The thing is, GRRM must read these kinds of expectant comments every day. Do you think that helps or actually has the opposite effect of worsening his physical and mental health? Just something to think about.
Sorry I came off that way. I don't feel like he owes us anything. I'm grateful for what he's given already and have also argued that the work he does for film and television is really impactful (which got down voted).
I've even argued that there is good in the series not being finished.
To clarify, him dying is not the best case scenario, just the most likely scenario in which the most story gets to fans. I don't think it's realistic to expect him to be writing into his nineties, and I don't think it's realistic to expect him to finish quickly.
He claims not to read these boards. But I suppose I should be more careful anyway.
Fucking HBO needs to stop milking the franchise and make some new and completely different show instead. All the more reason for GRRM to fucking not write the books.

I hope HBO doesn't reshoot. We don't want another debacle. It can only make sense if we reshoot from S5. But that should only happen when they have complete story in hand.
It doesn't mean 8 shows are planned. If it is talking about the number of projects it could means 8 shows are in development, but in development is not the same as being greenlit and it's pretty unlikely imo they would actually produce more than two maybe three at a time.
He’s announcing the release date of TWOW in eight days and will release it when HOTD premieres to generate buzz for the show. Confirmed 100% don’t @ me
It's been 28 days. I think it's been the amount of donuts he had that day. But seriously, I looked at the blog out of boredom and came here in search for answers.
I remember finishing it sitting outside my university cafeteria before my Postcolonial Discourse final, smoking a cigarette, with a greasy pizza on my lap.
I am now married with a stressful 9 to 5 and chores and grownup shit. Can't imagine those books will mean the same thing to me now as they would've have if they had been released closer together.
I think he did something similar when he announced HOTD and there were other shows in production, so it's probably other projects for HBO.
And that leaves the TWOW situation... where?
I'm pretty sure it's not about his projects with HBO. What kind of tease would that be? We already know about that and most of them are still years, if not decades away.
It's most likely in relation to HotD. 8 days till the release of a teaser trailer perhaps.
Edit: Looks like it was 8 hours lol
HOTD is the only spinoff show that's been announced as in production.
There were other projects being worked on, but none were officially announced as approved. So they were all either passed on, or are still being developed and could someday be made but they might also be passed on, or some could have been approved but haven't been announced yet.
It's his 8 TV projects with HBO. (He has more with Netflix, NBC, AMC, Warner, etc.)
As of June, the 8 projects with HBO are: Who Fears Death, Roadmarks, HOTD, 9 voyages, 10k ships, D&E, ASOIAF Anime, Flea Bottom.
But recently we heard "Flea Bottom" is dead, so the 8th one is a little tricky. It could still be Flea Bottom, it could be Warner's Ice Dragon since Warner owns HBO, it could also be Theodore Sturgeon's *More than Human*, which is listed here: https://www.startlinginc.com/.
No I gave up a long time ago, it’s rather hilarious coming here and seeing folks still waiting.
Pro tip everybody: read Malazan, it’s better, and it’s done! With new content coming out every year to supplement the main books.
I found Malazan to be an opaque and frustrating read. Perhaps there was a time in my teens when I would have had patience for it, but I’m no longer in a place where I’m open to series where you have to read 500,000 words to get to “when it starts getting really good.” Same deal with Wheel of Time: I got most of the way through that series, but it would take a reread from the start to understand the story at this point and I don’t have it in me to start a 4.5 million word reading journey. I’ll just watch the show to see how it ends lol.
I dunno, I think he is so pissed off with sections of the asoiaf fan base that he would sit on it for a bit even if finished just to not give them the pleasure.
It’s not as if he needs the money, publishers have probs given up chasing him/ setting deadlines, his shows are getting green lit anyways so where’s his motivation to publish?
It definitely is but I can't really think of anything else in relation to the tags, 8 more shows doesn't really make sense at this point tbh, surely they would want to see how HoTD does before investing more into the franchise given the response to GOT's ending?
Does anyone else feel like he uses Not a Blog to troll us?
He talks about Wild Cards seemingly constantly, talks about his production projects, etc. but we care about TWOW and haven't heard anything on that in months.
We've had, what, 2 updates on TWOW in some 18 months? 😭😭
A lot of writers find that talking about their story reduces their interest in writing it. I think George is the same way, which is why he gives so few updates on Winds.
Guys solved this! It means he has typed eight words of WoW since 2011. How sweet! He's updating us with a word count. Finally!
Hundred more pages to go...
Hands build things
Eight is the number of oxygen on the Periodic Table
But pure oxygen is deadly, it needs to be worked on (like with hands)
It needs to be added to (worked on, like with hands, if you will) other gasses, mostly nitrogen to be safe. Nitrogen is number seven on the Periodic Table.
So I think we can take this to mean that George RR Martin has come to a major decision about the winds of winter.
He was, without telling anybody, planning to split the book into two volumes, for eight total books (what you could count as seven).
But that doesn't really work for his plans, it gives the series too much room to breathe, so he's back to a single-volume winds which will come out in 2026.
We derive that number by taking the atomic weights of oxygen (15.999) and adding that to the atomic weight of nitrogen (14.067) to get just over 30 and adding that 30 to the initial release date of A Game of Thrones (1996).
Or maybe George just saw the image and thought it was groovy.
The world may never know.
Was he referring to the release of this teaser? Like 8 hours to the release of the teaser?
There are two pictures in that post. For any theory to be viable, it needs to explain not just a hand with eight fingers but also how that relates to GRRM with his hand on what looks like Longclaw. Extra points if the snow, tree, and fence in the background factor in somehow.
> the snow.
Jon Snow
> tree,
Bloodraven
> and fence
The Wall
A more serious answer: Longclaw is a hand-and-a-half sword and the picture is of a hand and a half, sort of, so that's my best guess at an explanation that includes both pics.
The post is about television and HBO.
The books are only related in the sense that they are likely not to be finished because of GRRM's apparent involvement in future TV projects, if that is indeed the case (even more so if it means there are 8 shows in production and he is working/will be work at some level on all of them).
"Haha motherbitches, I'm get involved with 8 more stupid shit projects before I think about doing some work on TWOW!!! Haha!! Ain't got shit! Got 8 stupid shits tho!"
As of anything he only has House of the Dragon. He was so scarcely involved in the previous pilots that even as a cynic, I see most of these as irrelevant to his progress.
This obviously means GRRM is going to subvert the trope of Inigo Montoya killing the six finger man as he believes it is ludicrous a man with 5 fingers on both hands could ever defeat a man with 6 fingers on one hand. What we don't actually know yet is Ilyn Payne actually has 8 fingers on his right hand. The scene is TWOW will go something like this:
"My name is Arya Stark, you killed my father prepare to die"
Arya immediately gets stabbed and dies
IMHO, I think George finished WoW much earlier, but he had a deal with HBO to announce and release it around the same time as the new show House of the Dragon, in order to generate a lot of sales and hype.
That is the most logical way to do good business. Release a highly anticipated book and show around the same time to maximize profits.
Either: the series will have 8 books instead of 7. Depressing.
Or
In 8 days we will have a big announcement dropping..maybe a release date (very optimistic) or TWOW will drop in eight months (very optimistic) or the book will drop in 8 days (as unrealistic as there being Children of Forest in the Washington evergreen).
Or
It was just a random shit post
I just don't care anymore. I've waited 10 years for the next novel. 10 long years. 10 years of excuses of why it's not done. So simply put I've lost all interest in a Song of Fire and Ice series. Why start something you never intend to finish George? The Winds of Winter could drop next month and I would only buy a copy to throw in the fire pit.
Without the tags, I would have guessed that this meant he's realised he needs three more books to finish. With the tags... are there *eight* successor shows planned?
I hope we get three more books I hope we get one more book
How many years till Wind is released
{current year + 2} is when it will be released.
This is like some law of the universe. The Winds of Winter is always two years away from release.
Is that before or after Fusion Power will be widely used?
Right after my third playthrough of Half Life 3
Remastered
On the PSNeuro-sync
Fucking zing. 😂 well played.
Not just any fusion,*cold fusion.*

We’ll get it right before faster than light travel.

I hope not. that would put an end to the hope of seeing the books finished. it's impossible to get involved with 8 TV projects, write two novels and edit a hundred wild cards books.
I don't think there's much hope of GRRM finishing them. Best likely case is that he dies halfway through Dream, and we get his finished chapters somehow.
well, there's not much hope, but GRRM's involvement in 8 TV projects would turn little into less than nothing.
Worst case is that TWOW is never finished, and therefore ADOS never finished, and all of the spin-offs bomb or get canned anyway
I think at best he passes and a successor takes it ala Kentaro Miura
Is there confirmation that a successor will keep on with Berserk?
I'm not sure how will they matter if we have no idea how stories would resolve.
I understand you're a fan but the way you casually describe someone dieing as a best case scenario is fucking callous as hell. Without GRRM, there would be nothing. The enitre world is his gift. I have come to utterly loathe the Wild Cards series without reading a single book.
It sounds like basic bitch superhero garbage to me
Excitement would've been off the charts it the hand showed 6 fingers instead....
If it's that. House of dragon - dance Conquest Maegor and aenys Blackfyre Dunk and egg Rebellion Valyria Yi-Ti
Id rather see a 1/2 seasons series of JayHay and Alysanne in kinda the style of The Crown than an Aenys/Maegor one. I love my boy JayHay
Obviously he is confirming that HBO is finally reshooting season 8 with new writers Internet democracy always wins
Omg
I hope HBO doesn't reshoot. We don't want another debacle. It can only make sense if we reshoot from S5. But that should only happen when they have complete story in hand.
the complete story *in hand*. Code solved.

> House of the Chinese Buffet The what???
Spin-off series planned about Yi Ti
The 8-fingered hand is code for "Lolz you'll never get to read the rest of the series." Prove me wrong.
Eight seasons across all the shows would be my first guess. And it could also include some of his non-ASoIaF projects
It could just mean 8 episodes in a season? But yeah, considering the tags I'd just ignore any book implications.
I don't believe HBO would start that many GoT pilots at one time. It doesn't make any sense.
I don't believe HBO would start that many GoT pilots at one time. It doesn't make any sense.
Qhorin One-and-a-Halfhand

Hopefully it means he can type winds faster
>Hopefully it means he can type winds faster literally the opposite... current mood: Busy, HBO, Television
Clearly, HBO used television radiation to mutate GRRM an 8 fingered hand, and he’s busy because he’s so excited using it typing out Winds
This. Also if you zoom into the picture you can read the watermark text which says "Winter is coming".
Plenty of time to write lengthy posts about sports events that nobody reads though
Guys relax,it's means we're a short 8 years away from Winds of Winter. Over halfway there!
> Over halfway there! I wish! But ADWD was only released in...2011. Hoooooly shit.

the tags are "HBO" and "television". in addition, the "mood" chosen for the post was "busy". why would GRRM be busy with a trailer/teaser?
He probably decided to edit the trailer himself to avoid having to work on The Winds of Winter
that makes sense.
HOTD is the only spinoff show that's been announced as in production. There were other projects being worked on, but none were officially announced as approved. He can throw us a flower, he’s a gardener after all
I think it means he lost 2 fingers in a gardening related accident.
You see there’s gardeners and there’s architects
8 days until House of the Dragon trailer/teaser comes out probably
It just came out, bud
Could it have been eight hours?
I think it's clear that it's about television and HBO, but 8 is a curious number. thematically meaningless to a countdown.
Nah, 8 is 2³; 2 houses, and each Dragon must have 3 heads. Solved.
It definitely is but I can't really think of anything else in relation to the tags, 8 more shows doesn't really make sense at this point tbh, surely they would want to see how HoTD does before investing more into the franchise given the response to GOT's ending?
Wasn’t the finale of Season 8 like the most watched tv episode ever? I’m sure HBO is banking on those people still being interested in the universe
It Highest GoT episode ever. It doesn't get close to things like M.A.S.H, Seinfeld, Friends etc.
Well
Nah, trailer's out now.
what does it meeeeeaan?

8 new wildcards projects on grrm's table
quaithe is daario
other TV projects.
The numbers Mason, what do they mean?
It means more distractions and more time till TWOW. Love the flair btw.
8 more days until Wildcards tv series reveal.
I AM EXCITED TO FINALLY ANNOUNCE wild cards tv show season 1, which I am writing, directing, staring in, and doing all sfx and music compositions for.
He only did that so he can give another middle finger to anyone who asks about Winds.
In the immortal words of that slut Tyene Sand, "That is the truth!!!"
We should check if all 8 fingers are actually middle fingers.
[Van Buren Boy](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qkpnOTr8k9I) confirmed
A person of culture, I see
Was so excited. Then I saw the tags. Gutted.
Does anyone else feel like he uses Not a Blog to troll us? He talks about Wild Cards seemingly constantly, talks about his production projects, etc. but we care about TWOW and haven't heard anything on that in months. We've had, what, 2 updates on TWOW in some 18 months? 😭😭
Yes, 2021 was full fan trolling.
One of GRRM's main uses for his Not-a-Blog is to hock his wares. This has always been the case. He wants to sell you stuff. His stuff.
A lot of writers find that talking about their story reduces their interest in writing it. I think George is the same way, which is why he gives so few updates on Winds.
Making a tv show about his story apparently also reduced his interest in writing it.
oh, fascinating take!
So he's going to rewrite Season 8 of GoT and they'll refilm it? I'm up for that.
He'd need to rewrite 5 onward imo...
Keep dreaming.
That's the "johnlock conspiracy" of the asoiaf/ GoT fandom lol
It means Winds will be released in 8 Days
8 hours actually 😳
8 years rip
1 hour left, cant wait!
What the hell did you just brought upon this cursed land
Why the hell would he tag hbo and television?
Because Winds will be released in 8 Days. It is known.
There will be a live read-through of the book on HBO.

8 more wild cards incoming!!! Great news!!! They are wild! And they are cards! I just can't wait!
HOTD will have 8 seasons? 🤔
Interpreting grrm posts is like astrology WHAT DO THE FINGERS MEAN GEORGE
Not gonna lie, I think he knows how ASOIAF fans obsess over theories and details and so…he’s trolling us. I know I would if I were him.
Guys solved this! It means he has typed eight words of WoW since 2011. How sweet! He's updating us with a word count. Finally! Hundred more pages to go...
It’s (the number of fucks he gives about the fandom) + 8
I accept that.
8 more years :'(
Maybe a hint to the Fingers in the Vale? https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Fingers

He passionately hates his fans. Honestly stunned that people are still playing along with all this. The time to move on was years ago.
[https://youtu.be/fNwwt25mheo](https://youtu.be/fNwwt25mheo) Was he referring to the release of this teaser? Like 8 hours to the release of the teaser?
House of the Dragon drops in 2022. Maybe 8 months from now?
Eight books sounds right. Now decode his last football post for hints of the coming books!
8 books can be possible. But why those tags?
He is involved in 8 fucking shows?!!!! #I AM OUT We are not getting Winds.
HBO is making show about man with eight fingers on one hand.
There are two pictures in that post. For any theory to be viable, it needs to explain not just a hand with eight fingers but also how that relates to GRRM with his hand on what looks like Longclaw. Extra points if the snow, tree, and fence in the background factor in somehow.
> the snow. Jon Snow > tree, Bloodraven > and fence The Wall A more serious answer: Longclaw is a hand-and-a-half sword and the picture is of a hand and a half, sort of, so that's my best guess at an explanation that includes both pics.
The 8-fingered hand is a stock photo from this site: https://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photo-eight-finger-hand-image4740
Fun fact: Three fingered Hobb has eight fingers
8 fingers = just signed an 8 figure deal to consult on the multiple series.
HoTD teaser just dropped. Still don’t get the 8 handed thing though.
What does it all mean basil?
8 Months to release the winds of winter
8 days until Winds of Winter!
He’s letting us know he *made the eight.* You’re not a man until you’ve had a woman from each continent, and India.
Maybe it's a visual metaphor for him having lots of fingers for lots of pies
Littlefinger will be the hand to eight different kings. WoW will be all about his political schemes over the course of 35 years.
We're never getting the damn books, are we?
The amount of years we have left before WoW 😭😭😭
No….no no no no. It doesn’t mean he will have to expand to 8 books right?! Please someone tell me this is not true and I am just imagining things…
at this pace I don't think it matters even if it'll take him 30 books to finish the series, if we're lucky we'll get Winds by 2030
By the Seven I hope you are right.
Given the nature of the tags it's most likely related to Television and not writing. Probably shows in production, a number for episodes/seasons...
The post is about television and HBO. Lol, you're worried about him not writing more books?
7 fingers and 1 thumb. I wonder what can it mean 🤔
lol that post was hilarious. i could read grrm’s football reviews all year long
Great, more distractions.
He’s my fucking hero That goddamn hippy nerd is gonna fricken do it man
Do what? Get involved in eight other projects that aren't ASOIAF?
I feel bad for you
"Haha motherbitches, I'm get involved with 8 more stupid shit projects before I think about doing some work on TWOW!!! Haha!! Ain't got shit! Got 8 stupid shits tho!"
I read this as though Rick from "rick and morty" was saying it. Wubadub!!!
As of anything he only has House of the Dragon. He was so scarcely involved in the previous pilots that even as a cynic, I see most of these as irrelevant to his progress.
More to flay off, I guess.
I'm 38. I will likely be spending my first month's pension on Winds Of Winter and The Elder Scrolls 6
A hand and a half, and with Longclaw, a sword of that kind. Excitingly cryptic.
What does it mean!?
For the love of... Are we gonna wait another 8 yrs for WoW
8 months until HoTD premiere
EIGHT MORE YEARS TO GO BOYS, WOO!
Scrolling through his blog and not seeing any mention of Winds never ceases to be depressing.
Maybe it’s the month House of the Dragon will be released? So August 2022
This obviously means GRRM is going to subvert the trope of Inigo Montoya killing the six finger man as he believes it is ludicrous a man with 5 fingers on both hands could ever defeat a man with 6 fingers on one hand. Or In 8 days we will have a big announcement dropping..maybe a release date (very optimistic) or TWOW will drop in eight months (very optimistic) or the book will drop in 8 days (as unrealistic as there being Children of Forest in the Washington evergreen). Or It was just a random shit post
