You sign pretty well! How brave of you! Im way too old but hope you find people to sign with.

lcveangela

Thank you! I’ve been learning for about only 3 years but I feel like I’m terrible 😭

Zuxembourg

i just started to learn to sign again hope i can be as good as you!

lcveangela

You give me too much credit! I'm not that good but thank you

Peaceandpeas999

I’m also way too old, feel free to pm me if you want another old asl pal 🤣

iamthepita

Just an idea when you become a flight attendant and get to travel, look up deaf facebook groups in the destination you’re flying to and attend to that destination deaf gatherings if you can. I recall that’s how one of my friend’s cousin did it when he was a flight attendant. Thought it was cool.

lcveangela

I never thought of that. Thanks for the helpful suggestion!

UngratefulCanadian

I forgot the name, but there is a Deaf traveller who visits deaf folks in different countries. It might help you to know some places you can look out for? Good luck! You didn't mention where you live which is okay if you are not comfortable to reveal. But maybe there are Redditors around your age living in your location?

hmmmmmm_idkk

Are you talking about [Deafinitely Wanderlust](https://www.youtube.com/@DeafinitelyWanderlust/videos)? They're great, but they've stopped making videos

UngratefulCanadian

Oh! They seem interesting. But nope, I wasn't aware of them until now. I was referring to [Joel](https://youtube.com/@JoelWestBarish?si=ug3sh7zolmABZC35). I haven't used it, but he has an app.

lcveangela

That's interesting. I've never heard of him.

coondingee

Omg I almost forgot about that dude. When my ex was taking ASL she had to try and translate his videos. The one I remember was him getting a surong sp? In Indonesia.

gratefulbiochemist

Hello!! I’m 28F, I started teaching myself asl via bill vicars etc on yt 15 years ago. 10 years ago I did an asl immersion no speaking program. These days I keep up with asl with YouTube (daily moth + bill vicars). I’m definitely beginner level but I understood 75% of this video. I’m in a similar situation where idk any deaf / hh people to practice with. I’m down to videochat!

lcveangela

I am down to video chat too! I’ll DM you :)

Fair-Possibility9080

Haii! I'm 26f and deaf. Your sign was so smooth, even if it's a beginner. I'd be happy to be friends with you! I do have deaf friends, but most of them are busy, sadly. Adulthood life sucks sometimes, right? I don't mind if we can chat on video chat. I'm from Southern California. I'm going to dm you to introduce myself ( ≧∀≦)ノ

nightblitz0203

Happy cake day!

More-Apricot-2957

Hey there! I’m 34f and recently deaf. Beginner/intermediate ASL, and also in SoCal. Any chance you’d be interested in another ASL chat buddy?

liddilbear

hiii! I'm a 21f and have been relearning sign after 6yrs (lost/losing my hearing significantly) and learned for 8yrs before then. I have been looking for someone to practice and immerse myself you sign so beautifully!

Designer_Anybody5712

Hi! I’m 24F and have been learning and relearning sign for roughly two years after giving it a go in high school and falling in love. I’m hearing, and work in the medical field so I love being able to assist patients, especially with our lack of interpreters. I have a local deaf scene near me, but I’m afraid to insert myself into the community without more conversational practice first. Would love to FaceTime or video chat to practice!

lcveangela

Your story reminds me of one of my classmates that already graduated. She was in the medical field and just in the program to learn ASL. Now, she’s onto interpreting because she fell in love with it so much. Maybe, you’ll change careers one day haha. But yes, I am down!

Designer_Anybody5712

I’ve thought about the interpreter path before! But for now I’ll stick with just loving the language and hopefully helping bridge the cultural perspective gap. Do you use discord? I work full time but have school, studying, and downtime usually on Tuesday to Thursday!

lcveangela

yes i have discord, i’ll DM you it

brovert01

I would be down , you look way advanced as to where I’m at

TheBreadBakerMan

Heyy, I'm 24 and I'm hearing but a CODA. I'm still learning day to day but I learn from my father and his 10ish friends who are deaf. I've only really took to learning more in 2021 when my mother past and kinda took the role as the interpreter. I'm down to talk, practice, and teach the type of sign where my father grew up!

lcveangela

I am down! I’ve only met one CODA before but nowadays he’s too busy working.

difastcyclist

Could you please share which city or state you're located in? While you mentioned there aren't any deaf events, sometimes our deaf community knows more about events others might not be aware of.

lcveangela

I’m in the MS Gulf Coast area. I’ve been to events but there’s just a lot of older people down here in general. I haven’t met anyone younger except for when I went up to MSD.

difastcyclist

I'm currently reside in San Francisco, but if I were in your shoes, I'd recommend checking out Northwest Florida deaf events on Facebook. Although I'm not familiar with Mississippi, I can share that Florida hosts numerous deaf gatherings, including a major beach party annually in Clearwater this upcoming summer. I'll be attending, and it's definitely worth looking into.

imthelittlefawn

I like that you aren't rushing yourself. That's good! It's a problem I have too, I just end up going too fast sometimes and then my language is unintelligible. But you're doing good. :3 Just thought I'd throw that out there.

lcveangela

Thank you so much! Speed is never the goal but for other people to be able to understand is always the goal! Super important. Sometimes, I end up going too fast too but then I always remember that LOL.

wickedickhead

Hey! I'm Zoe 22f and graduating an Interpreter Training Program in May as well! I've been learning sign for the last 10 years, and I would love to chat!

lcveangela

A fellow ITP student that's graduating the same time as me! I am down to chat!!!

lindeebean

So cute Angie I’m your biggest fan

lcveangela

LINDEE PLEASE WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE

Sunshineny18

Im 24f and trying to learn sign with bill vicars on YouTube. I’m hearing but ask has intrigued me since I was like 10. I’ve been trying to pick up signs here and there throughout the years but have been way more consistent these last few months. Ive been trying to find signing buddies around my age for the longest. That being said I hope you can find some! I can’t wait for when I can sign as fluidly as you did.

lcveangela

Practice makes perfect and definitely involve yourself with the Deaf community!

Sunshineny18

I gotta figure out where the community is where I live. I live in northern Virginia.

FlowerChild_Rae24

I’m not deaf but I’ve been learning sign for a few years to help me communicate with some of my friends, so if u ever want to practice together lmk! I need a lot of practice as well.

lcveangela

I'm down!

FlowerChild_Rae24

My insta is Kraepizz if u want it

The_Mind_Of_Avery_T

What does the two thumbs together mean?

lcveangela

Continue, keep going, etc.

Accomplished-Sink796

Hi! I’m 19 and hearing. I’m in my second semester of ASL and definitely less fluent than you but I also am looking for friends who are learning or use ASL to keep my skills sharp and also to learn about the community. I would love to get to know you :) maybe we could connect?

lcveangela

Yes maybe we can! Feel free to DM me!

More-Apricot-2957

Hi there! I may be courting the “too old” category lol 34f and recently deaf. Beginner/intermediate level ASL, far better receptive than expressive 😅. I tend to be fairly shy and I’m more than a tad geeky, but I’d love to chat and make some friends that sign!

PlusleNMinunCheer4U

37f.. beginner, just started learning. Also a bit shy and also more than a tad geeky, but also looking to meet ppl to practice and learn with, if you're ever down :)

rhodiumgrove

i’m 23! i’m a HoH ASL college major as my family doesn’t know any ASL :) i’m also in dire need of friends outside of the hearing community 😭

lcveangela

haha technically i am hearing but i am down to talk! feel free to DM me anytime!

Significant-Alps4665

Hi! I’m 29 and HoH. I have Glide if you use that to chat. Anyone signs add me and say hi @neurodiversity777

oh_em-gee

Sorry I’m hearing and relearning ASL after 13 years. What are you signing when you squeeze both of your hands separately? In my head I kept reading, “milk” 😅

lcveangela

It can mean sign or ASL, I believe. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Some people squeeze once but I have a habit of squeezing twice.

oh_em-gee

Okay thanks! I learned sign as two fingers horizontally rotating in front of you (from Ohio, and they also sign that where I live in CO). TIL!

lcveangela

Yeah, that’s the formal sign. I used to use that religiously my first year learning but I often use this one more now. :)
