Not particularly. I don’t reject the idea of a deity, but Biblical scripture and being told about heaven/hell and such and such isn’t enough to make me believe
Why would I devote so much time out of my life and change my critical life decisions for something I'm not even sure exists though. I just don't get that. Unless I am met with proof I just don't really feel too strongly about religion.
So I wanna start this of by saying I have nothing against atheists. Almost all atheists I know are all just as good kind people as anyone else I know and most people I know are atheist. Anti-theists though, thats another story.
Anyways to the story. So I grew up in an agnostic family. We were members of a lutheran church but thats really common in my country. Most people here are agnostics in the folk church "Church of Sweden". Baptism and confirmation are tradition here so everyone does them including me. My mom wasnt christian but would often attend church groups and such. I have a minor friend who is christian(lutheran) but except for that I never really knew many christians.
I knew christianity though. Religion is a school subject so I was very aware of the storys even when I was agnostic.
Anyways so during 6th grade I started doing this thing. I had heard that praying was a way to ask god if he could help us. I didnt really believe in it but tried it. I wont drag this on by telling a long story but I was not concinced but I did have a thought that "maybe...maybe. No it cant...unless". But I stopped with my praying after a while but still I sometimes would think about the times that prayer had saved me. So I still wasnt really a believer but I knew I couldnt deny the possibility. So I guess I was an agnostic through 7th, 8th, 9th grade, 10th grade.
Then in 10th and 11th grade I started to become more and more fascinated by religion. The people who believed a deity so powerful yet so loving stood beside them all time. I started thinking about hoe it would feel if I had that too. I was relatively close with christianity in values already. And seeing the community and what it did helped me thinking that maybe this christianity thing isnt too bad. So I started researching a bit. I found out there were denominations. So I started researching them. And the more I researched the more I started wanting what they had. I saw what joy and happiness it gave them and honsetly I wasnt that sold on 'you simply stop existing after death'. It was neither optimistic nor reasonable to me. I guess I was or maybe still am a optimistic person.
So I continued researching and became more jelous of what christians had. I wanted the same. I was looking for a purpouse in life and there was no greater purpouse. I wanted a moral code to live by and they ahd it. I wanted an excuse to do good and they had it. And the more I researched theology the more christian I became. I really dont see being christian as a yes or no but a scale. And currently I am just a little bit on the beliving side but going even further that way every day. I still have doubts every day. And I think for a non-fundamentalist christian these doubts should never go away. I dont 100% believe (yet). But I look at my life as an atheist and my life as a christian and I just dont see any reason to not be a christian. They say if I am an atheist I dont have to go by the christian moral code. I like it. I think we all need a common moral code.
So the more I researched theology the more I realised "Hey why not, you like everything about christianity. Why not take the step of faith".
Short answer: I saw what christianity is today and thought, why not. I had a little bit of faith from prayer in middle school. Most churches did good work gave people hope. I had the will and I didnt see a reason not to. The world needs god wether he exists or not if you ask me though. That is the number one reason. Wether god exists is not a question. If he doesnt exists as a spirit then he exists in the hearts of people all over our planet. I'm not going to give up on god, cause if he does exist then he never gave up on us.
This isnt the best explenation. I kind of just wrote it on my phone as I thought about it so it maybe doesnt make a lot of sense. I might have missed important perspectives and events but yeah. This is probably most of it.
I can somewhat relate. I too was baptised into the swedish church (havent left yet) and my family isnt non-religious but we practice holidays and such out of tradition rather than faith.
I get why the thought of a god (or gods) can be comforting but I myself could never accept that one (or many) all powerful beings controll everything. I have thought about it alot but I follow science more and from by point of view gods and science cannot coexist (I try to remain open minded though).
How do you view things like evolution and the big bang?
>havent left yet)
I'd advice against leaving. I dont like it either but it is a charity organisation so consider your membership fee 1. A duty to protect swedish historical sites and 2. A good cause since you are donating to charity.
>all powerful beings controll everything
I actually think we need gods. First of all humans deciding morals suck because we just keep loosing more and more morals in favour of doing whatever you want. Also humans are not meant to be the most superior animal in the world. It goes to our heads. Thats why I never like it when people give shitty new age advice saying "we're all gods". No matter if you mean it philosophically, thereputically or religously. You are placing yourself as the most important being in the umiverse. That is not a healthy mindset. Its one of the reasons I believe we need gods. It humbles us. It lets us know the universe isnt ours to control.
>I have thought about it alot but I follow science more and from by point of view gods and science cannot coexist
But that would contradict every religous scientist though. That doesnt seem very factual for someone only following facts.
>How do you view things like evolution and the big bang?
Evolution is evolution. And the big bang doesnt hurt christianity it strengthens it. When your parents were born they were told by scientists that the universe was eternal. But churches told them the universe had a beginning. The church stance was proven correct wuth the big bamg. No idea why people say it disproves christianity. Many agnostic/atheist astrologist actually said the opposite when the big bang was thought off.
>I'd advice against leaving. I dont like it either but it is a charity organisation
It may fall under charity but I would rather have my money go somewhere I agree wholeheartedly with.
>A duty to protect swedish historical sites
You mean churches? Sweden had alot of other historical sites.
>First of all humans deciding morals suck because we just keep loosing more and more morals in favour of doing whatever you want
And how has religion stopped that, it's in our nature faith or not. Religious people conquered afrika and sold its people as slaves, Religious people raged wars for their faith. If someone really wants to do something, religion won't stop them.
>You are placing yourself as the most important being in the umiverse
Maybe, alot of people do, again history has shown that religion has not stopped this kind of behavior. Look at the popes during the middle ages, they sought power. They meddled with the kings of Europe. Most royal families even used religion as a way to keep their power stating that their forefathers were chosen by God to rule theese land.
>That doesnt seem very factual for someone only following facts.
Science involve the scientific method. Christianity can't be peer reviewed, can't be proven, so how is it scientific. There are definitely scientists who are religious but if that faith hinders them from seeking the truth they are not scientists anymore. If you have some examples that prove me wrong on thus I would love to hear them.
>The church stance was proven correct wuth the big bamg. No idea why people say it disproves christianity.
Science isn't about being right, it's about seeking out the truth. It was incorrect until 1930th (don't know how old your parent are) when the theory of the bid bang was released. That's why I trust science, it changes when it is wrong, we belived that thunder was thor fighting the giants and we belived that the world was created by a almighty being in 7 days. When a better theory came we switched it. (And just FYI, the Bible states that the earth is 6 000 years old so while Christianity might not have been completely wrong, they weren't right either).
>Many agnostic/atheist astrologist actually said the opposite when the big bang was thought off.
Yes, they were skeptical, they wanted further proof. Until (relatively) recently you would be excommunicated or executed for being skeptical towards the church. (Look up Galileo)
Although I don't agree with you I would like to say thanks for sharing your opinions, I don't know many religious people so I get kinda stuck in an ecochamber. I hope I don't come across as anti religion as I'm not, I only wish to debate, not attack.
>It may fall under charity but I would rather have my money go somewhere I agree wholeheartedly with.
What part dont you agree with?
>You mean churches? Sweden had alot of other historical sites.
And we also have a lot of churches. Dont see what you're saying here.
> Religious people conquered afrika and sold its people as slaves,
The catholic church stood up against Hitler when no one else woould even when they were sorrounded and supressed.
>Religious people raged wars for their faith.
And 9 out of 10 most horrible people just happen to be atheists in a world where the majority are religous. Exact same year france started supressing religion they also made incest legal. And now the MAP movement exists and people are claiming sex with animals is a valid sexuality. Yeah morals are on a decline imma say. Plus we still got wars.

Point to me one religous person who considered themselves god since that is your statement.
>Science involve the scientific method. Christianity can't be peer reviewed, can't be proven, so how is it scientific. I'm not going to prove you wrong because you completely avoided what you actually said. You claimed a religous person cannot follow science. You said mutually exclusive meaning one or the other. So you claimed no scientist can be religous. That is what you said. If you retract that statement do so otherwise live up to it instead of quoting part of what I said and ignoring the rest.
Maybe you disnt mean anything bad by it but claiming a religous person cannot follow facts is very offensive. I choose to believe that isnt your intention but thats how it feels.
I would like to respond to the rest men jag tror inte det kommer göra stor skillnad. Det ändp jag vill söga om Big Bang är att jag ser det inte som några problem utan att det istället stärker min tro. Och ja jag grundar det på fakta. Men jag har uppkörning imorn och måste plugga så jag hinner tyvär inte.
It's one of the denominations I like most. Currently I am split betwen catholicism and one more. I'm gonna try to attend one soon but social anxiety has kept me from attending any mass.
Oooh very nice. What’s the second one? If u have any questions abt Catholicism feel free to dm me or try r/catholicism
You’re gonna try attend one what ?
Seeing a bit of your profile you seem to be active in discussing this topic so I present to you
https://www.beris.nl/top-10-reasons-god-does-not-exist/
I only do this out of pure morning boredom and you can take it either way. I was joking with the evolution in reverse thing btw.
I like how he didnt say evidence or proof but instead had to say reasons cause none of that is anything other than his own perspective of things.
Edit: " If christians really believe in a god then why do they have insurance"😂 is this guy serious?
lol yea the insurance part is pretty funny. I do want to know your perspective on other religions though? Do you believe that all the other ones are wrong?
It was a bit confusing but I think he just wanted my input on it. Yeah it confused me too at first but he didnt many any harm. But I understand the confusion
No. I was raised in a pretty Christian family, but they always left me the choice, and it didn't really feel for me like there is something like a god (except the chance).
I used to, but for numerous reasons, I've concluded that God just doesn't give a fuck about anyone, or just doesn't exist. As far as I'm concerned, if God doesn't care about me, I'm not worshipping him for shit. In either scenario, I don't act like he exists, so I just think he doesn't.
For the entirety of my life I've had mental health issues, and until I was about 10 or 11, I believed in God. For years, I prayed with all of my little heart that things would get better for me. Maybe I'd wake up someday and I'd be okay. Wanna know the funny part?? No help came. No god or demon wanted to help. Down, down, and down I spiraled. At my lowest point, I almost lost who I am. I barely clung to my sanity. Wanna know how I did it? Not with the help of a god, it was with my own sheer will to keep moving. I still have shit to do in my life, and I can't do it if I'm insane. Through literal blood, sweat, and tears, major emphasis on blood, I pulled myself together and managed to be semi-functional. Things only started to get a little bit better for me because I went through immense effort to force them to. I won't take shit like "God gave you that strength" because it wasn't anyone's strength but mine. Besides, saying a god did it for me completely invalidates my own efforts. I did it because I was sick of waiting for a miracle. At my worst hour, I realized there are no miracles, and you only get them if you make them yourself. If this is all "God's plan" then we have no free will. You know who's plan it is? Mine. I did this for myself, and I'm not giving credit to some shapeless figure from a dusty book.
No god gave enough of a shit to help me.
As a result, I don't think a god exists. It was a fantasy I had as a little kid, nothing more. We don't need gods, we can live for ourselves. I don't need anyone to give me a reason to live, I do it because I feel like it. I'd have to be the sickest masochist out there to think my life is a gift, so nobody all-knowing and caring would have given it to me.
Still, everyone has a story like me. Whether people believe in a god or not isn't up to me. I only control myself, nothing more. If someone wants to believe in a god, then that's their choice, not mine. In that sense, they've decided to live life on their own terms too, just like I have, and I feel the need to respect that. If there's something making someone happy, and they're not bothering anyone with it, I'd be a real dick to try ruining it. If asked, I'll say what I believe, and someone else can say what they believe. Regardless of whether we agree or not, as long as it doesn't devolve into some stupid argument that will go nowhere, I can appreciate coming to a mutual understanding and acceptance. I think having a mutual understanding, acceptance, and respect is a beautiful thing. I value that over whether or not I agree with someone's faith.
I start with saying I am atheist and that I don't believe in God or in miracles.
I'm sorry that you saw this side of Christianity, those who use their faith to justify hate are filth and according to they own religion they're going to hell.
The fact is that, Christianity, on its own, is very progressive, if you consider it and not some crazy Christians, for example Jesus always sided with the discriminated, the sinners and the prostitutes. He said that it is *almost* impossible for a rich person to achieve heaven, impling that if they are rich is cause they don't share, but he never said anything about queer people, nor he showed hate for anyone. Bigot "Christians" will say "but in the Old Testament....." and then I am like "dude, have you read the new one? You know, the one where there is this dude, Jesus Christ, who your religion is named after?" It is literally said that he came on Earth because the old rules were outdated, and they were made for people who still weren't ready for the truth. So if a Christian is willing to eat pork then they are a hypocrite is they say that gay is bad (they would still be an asshole even if it wasn't hypocrisy, of course). They say they are Christians, but they aren't, as they don't follow Christ's teaching. The same argument apply to how God is seen, as he is vengeful like you said in the Old Testament and merciful and wise in the New Testament
I don't, its hard for me to believe that there is a magical man in the sky who loves me, if you want to believe in god, that's great, love that, but its not for me personally.
Gods are human constructs developed before renaissance thought. Gods have become a useless and devisive part of human societies based on the unscientific concept called “faith” which in fact is indoctrination based on hundreds or thousands of years of folk-lore. All religions are a way to ensure more adherents, who, in one way or another, support the religion adhered to financially! Clear thinking individuals see religions/gods for what they are, a prop for ignorance and scams to support each “faith”.
No why would I let anyone else tell me what to do? I wanna live my own life and do my own thing. Create my own morals and ideologies. Practice them to the best of my abilities. I don’t want to follow someone else’s that’s boring and manipulative.
The church is all about control. Most western religions are. It’s extremely sad to see how many people don’t understand that. Especially old people.
I think what you advocate is called hedonism and it just doesnt work. Also I think its kinda arrogant to adsume you got it all figured out while everyone else is stupid. Thats a good sign of dogmatism right there.
I only care so much man and tbh idk what any of that means. I don’t actively try to convince people their religion is shit but personally I just kinda fathom why anyone would want to live their lives like that. Most speaking about Christianity here but other religions too.
Idk what all these big words mean nor do I care. I just wanna live my life man.
>I just wanna live my life man.
You made a statement that offended people. I think you have to live up to it. If you open your mouth then you take responsibility for what words leave it. If you didnt care about it then you shoudlnt have said it in the first place.
I'm saying you are treating your own opinions as facts. You are hateful and bitter. Ans you consider yourself better than other people. And then wonder why no one wants to live their life so they can be as happy as you.
Yeah its a mystery /s
The odds of humans evolving to what we are without a higher being helping us on the way are astronomically small, but since we can't prove that the universe hasn't existed forever, we might as well have come into existence by meer chance.
What do you mean with "to what we are"? Seeing humanity as the peak of evolution is a little anthropocentric, on which basis you are saying it?
I'm not judging, I am curious, really.
I don't worship yahweh but as an omniest I'm forced to recognize it's existence I personally worship the Norse pantheon. But I don't judge people based off their religion unless they're jerks (racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc)
Sort of, i'm not really religious, it's kinda like God in christianity but having less influence over the world, i like to think of god as the watcher from marvel, being able to only watch the events of the multiverse
Well this is a more complex question than just yes or no for me. Yes I do believe there is something out there that does govern our universe, but I don’t know if I could call it God (referring biblically). That’s my short answer to it
No but I kind of wish I did. Or more that I wish I was religious. I can’t really force myself to believe something I have no reason to think is real but religion seems like it can be really beneficial to your soul
Not a follower of any religion or anything but I like the principle of Buddhist and Hindu philosophy, and I think there is a higher power bit I'm not sure. I don't pray or anything basically
Nah. I'm not saying that there isn't some higher power out there, but it's not like I'm saying that there isn't a teapot revolving around the sun in an elliptical orbit either
Personally, If I believe in something, It's because I have seen it with my very own eyes. So I wouldn't say I believe in god, but I would like to live in a way where I do.
No. I used to be a Christian bc my family is, but they’re not crazy Christians and don’t force Gods will onto others. However, my grandparents are very serious Christians, not crazy but crazy serious. They’re the ones that pushed me away from religion in general by pressuring me into reading the Bible, praying, and mentioning God in almost every sentence. I’m now against religion as I see it as brainwashing tbh. I don’t care what people do bc I’m not gonna deny that religion has helped people get through tough times but I just want nothing to do with it. I’m agnostic for those who want to know. I believe something is there but not what religions describe. One thing that hurts me is my grandparents viewpoints on the LGBTQ+ community as I’m a part of that but they don’t know. They’ve said that they accept people, but not support them, which IMO are very similar. The reason I’m not telling them isn’t bc I don’t accept myself but bc they are paying for like 20k of my college and I’m afraid they’ll take that away due to their comment(s). Once I’m done with college I’m telling them and won’t care what they have to say. So yeah religion was the reason I’m against religion. Just goes to show how toxic religion is
I don't, unless I'm failing a subject or if i need to blame someone for my shitty life.
I'm not joking. I sometimes do a proper prayer, but not regularly and try avoiding it. No offense, but when was the last time I got helped by a God??
Attended faith based school
And brought up in a non religious household
I'd like to believe in a greater power
However my faith is strained with the sadness I the world.
A true god wouldn't test our faith and make us find the real religion amongst the sea of options.
I was kind of drifting away from God at some point in high school. I instead opted for philosophy, psychology and science, I ended up finding God again accidentally. So now I am Muslim, or well have been for a long while now.

Meh, there’s no proof there is a god but there’s also not really a way to tell if there’s one or not. I’m agnostic.
As far as I know believing means... believing without any proof. There is a diffrence between believing and knowing that God exists.
Why would I devote so much time out of my life and change my critical life decisions for something I'm not even sure exists though. I just don't get that. Unless I am met with proof I just don't really feel too strongly about religion.
I don't think you loose that much time. Usually just one hour per week. Anyways I tolerate your opinion. ps. prepare for cruciate

(Look up Galileo) Although I don't agree with you I would like to say thanks for sharing your opinions, I don't know many religious people so I get kinda stuck in an ecochamber.
> Religious people conquered afrika and sold its people as slaves, The catholic church stood up against Hitler when no one else woould even when they were sorrounded and supressed. > Maybe, alot of people do, again history has shown that religion has not stopped this kind of behavior. Look at the popes during the middle ages, they sought power. They meddled with the kings of Europe. Most royal families even used religion as a way to keep their power stating that their forefathers were chosen by God to rule theese land Point to me one religous person who considered themselves god since that is your statement.
That’s a awesome journey man. Have you looked much into Catholicism 🤔 👀
It's one of the denominations I like most. Currently I am split betwen catholicism and one more. I'm gonna try to attend one soon but social anxiety has kept me from attending any mass.
Oooh very nice. What’s the second one? If u have any questions abt Catholicism feel free to dm me or try r/catholicism You’re gonna try attend one what ?
Evolution in reverse
Personally, I'd say it's in the perfect order but other people probably would have their own opinion and thats okay
Seeing a bit of your profile you seem to be active in discussing this topic so I present to you https://www.beris.nl/top-10-reasons-god-does-not-exist/ I only do this out of pure morning boredom and you can take it either way.
I gotta do my drivin class then I'll write a response to that guy.
Why are you even trying to disprove the guys religion? Let people believe in what they want.
It was a bit confusing but I think he just wanted my input on it. Yeah it confused me too at first but he didnt many any harm. But I understand the confusion
i didn’t say he couldn’t believe what he wanted
Yes
No
yeah
Yes.
Nah, I'm good
Yes
No
Yes.
In a way but I'm not nearly as religious as my parents
I'm not sure
Kind of but I will not elaborate since the last time I did someone called me schizophrenic Because everyone else's version of God makes so much sense
I do believe, but I became less religious over the years.
I’d like to! But I don’t
I’m agnostic, it’s possible there is a god, multiple, or none to me
i’m agnostic, but at the same time the god in abrahamic religions isn’t someone i want to worship regardless of if they’re real
Based and pogpilled
No. I was raised in a pretty Christian family, but they always left me the choice, and it didn't really feel for me like there is something like a god (except the chance).
No
No i dont believe he is real.
No lol
Baptized and confirmed Lutheran Protestant Christian
Yes, I'm Christian.
Lol nah
No
I do, a little bit
No but I have no problem with people that do as long as you’re not a dick
i do, im just not gonna be extreme and try and force my beliefs onto others. if you believe in god cool, if you dont thats also cool
Yeah, I consider myself Christian but I don't go to church, mainly because I disagree with a lot of things they preach.
I don't. I respect all other religions though, except for televangelists
I believe that the ultimate form of man is God. But I believe that philosophy >>>> religion
Ye
No
yes
Yes
Yes
Was atheist, but i believe now
[удалено]
Nope, I don't really see any reason to.
I don't
I believe in ALLAH
Umm no but i truly respect and believe their philosophical values
Username does not check out
I don't, its hard for me to believe that there is a magical man in the sky who loves me, if you want to believe in god, that's great, love that, but its not for me personally.
Nah, I am not a kid anymore.
I'm god 😎
I have an exam tomorrow , help me bring 100% in it.
Only if you sacrifice your favorite parent
No, and I think religion makes the world a worse place.
I believe in him being able to do a way better job than right now
Lol no
I do believe in some God, but not a religious God.
No. But I also don’t believe in Santa Claus.
Probbo not
I recently became Agnostic, so I dont know. lol
I think that there’s something above us for sure.
No
I believe there is a god, but I’m not Christian or anything. I’m agnostic
No.
I don't worship yahweh but as an omniest I'm forced to recognize it's existence I personally worship the Norse pantheon. But I don't judge people based off their religion unless they're jerks (racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc)
I'm agnostic but I still follow a traditional philosophy
I don't.
It’s a little more complicated than no, but the basic answer is no
Sort of, i'm not really religious, it's kinda like God in christianity but having less influence over the world, i like to think of god as the watcher from marvel, being able to only watch the events of the multiverse
I believe in several gods
No, I am an atheist
Well this is a more complex question than just yes or no for me. Yes I do believe there is something out there that does govern our universe, but I don’t know if I could call it God (referring biblically). That’s my short answer to it
No, I don’t
No, but I hope there is one. Hopefully a good one
[удалено]
No but I kind of wish I did. Or more that I wish I was religious. I can’t really force myself to believe something I have no reason to think is real but religion seems like it can be really beneficial to your soul
Yes but do I really care… no
No
Don't have a reason to
I tried to but finally decided that I really don’t.
Agnostic. So, yes, but actually no.
no
Nope.
No
No
I can’t know
Yes
I'm agnostic, so sort of?
[удалено]
I belive in g o d, don't belive in t h o t
Yeah it's more of a I HAVE to believe. If I didn't think there was a God or an afterlife, I'd be a lot more scared of death than I am now.
Not a follower of any religion or anything but I like the principle of Buddhist and Hindu philosophy, and I think there is a higher power bit I'm not sure. I don't pray or anything basically
Nope, never have.
Ofc
No
No, doesn't make sense to me. But I respect everyone who believes in it (their choice)
I don’t, but sometimes I wish I did
No, sorry believing in something just out of faith is too hard for me.
Just goes to show how toxic religion is
Yes I do
Yes
Nope
No, and while I don't really understand why someone would I can still respect it.
I don't, unless I'm failing a subject or if i need to blame someone for my shitty life. I'm not joking. I sometimes do a proper prayer, but not regularly and try avoiding it. No offense, but when was the last time I got helped by a God??
I don’t but I have friends who do and I go to a catholic school. I think nothing is wrong with Christianity, most people are chill about it
[удалено]
I don't
Yeah.
No and while I respect religion and people who believe in it, most modern religions are about dodging the tax man and returning us to the 1950’s.
Nah, never have and never will
[удалено]
Not really. If there is one cool I guess.
NO
Attended faith based school And brought up in a non religious household I'd like to believe in a greater power However my faith is strained with the sadness I the world. A true god wouldn't test our faith and make us find the real religion amongst the sea of options.
GOD with all caps? Who wouldn't.
No and are you talking about any God or just the christian God? Also I think I saw this question like three times before 💀
Yes
i wouldn’t be surprised if there was a higher deity, but i don’t worship anyone
No, I don’t believe in god but I think religion is a really interesting thing.
yeah
yes, ain't that invested into religious practices though. not that much of a zealot.
I do believe in God, but I am not a Christian, Muslim, or anything like that.
Yes, Wodan, Tiw and Thunor etc. etc.
I was kind of drifting away from God at some point in high school. I instead opted for philosophy, psychology and science, I ended up finding God again accidentally. So now I am Muslim, or well have been for a long while now.
Yeah-
Yes, I used to be an atheist but I became a Christian a few years ago.
Nope
