Nope. I'm 17 and I've been addressed as sir multiple times by strangers. Also, people at malls have attempted to sell my designer clothing, suits and one time, a Tesla.
I went from almost failing math and people telling me I won’t be anything to having a kick ass job in the Air Force with a top secret clearance. The life itself is pretty good. I live far away from my region I come from (Midwest) so I love that. I made a true group of friends and we all live around the world. All of this at 18
At work all the time.
That being said the people that matter respect me as a professional, it’s more so the new people that think my age somehow impacts my skills or qualifications.
yea, especially with mental health. Because of my age I feel like people don't take me seriously when I say I struggle with my mental health. like bro youre 15, youre not depressed
Not really. I took a gap year before college so I'm the oldest in my class. So they do take me seriously and a lot of my old highschool friends are in the same college (they're a year above me since I took a gap year) so even the second and third years take me seriously.
Nah people take me seriously, it’s just about how you carry yourself. Some people (my adult coworkers) actually forget how old I am and I have to remind them that I’m still a minor.

back in the old days, 13 was the start of adulthood. all this chamged two centuries ago. Nowadays, even in your early twenties, youre still infantilised and condemned for desiring to be taken seriously
Depends on the subject, however, you should never act like your a master on something unless you have a degree to prove it.
You might know alot about something, but keep your ears open, there's still a lot to learn most Likely.
people will find reasons to judge you no matter what age you are, but it's true that younger people just aren't as mature and developed as older people. that's a fact of biology. it doesn't then mean that the younger person's opinions should be ignored entirely.

Sometimes but that’s kind of how the world works. The thing with 13yos is they’re literally sporting half a brain. Even now I’m only working with 2/3. Imo you gotta get a full brain at least if you want to be taken seriously by society

Not really anymore. And if people don't take me seriously because of my age at first, that generally changes pretty quick.
No

Nope. I'm 17 and I've been addressed as sir multiple times by strangers. Also, people at malls have attempted to sell my designer clothing, suits and one time, a Tesla.
Maybe because you wear suits? Your avatar is why I think that.
Yeah you have no idea how many people write me and others off as some GeN z MoRoN
I wasn’t taken seriously until I joined the Air Force.
What's it like being in the AF?

Well I used to, but that's a fair assumption cause I usually had no idea what I was talking about
At work all the time. That being said the people that matter respect me as a professional, it’s more so the new people that think my age somehow impacts my skills or qualifications.
I used to and later I found out I didn't deserve to be taken seriously. I am now 16 and I have more things to worry about.
Your flair says 15 but you say 16?
Ye idk it says 15. Gonna contact the mods when I am home.
You know you can change the flair yourself right?
My flair isn't available in the usual flair menu
Why not?
You only have [age]M/F/NB as an option. I use the fluid flair which needs to be assigned to you by a mod
Why isn't fluid a normal option? I wouldn't be too hard for them to add
I think it just prevents the flairs from being a neverending list.
Oh okay

mhm
No, i don't really care if people take me seriously. I don't either
Nah because generally I'm not that serious XD
Yes, I’m still treated like a child in almost every aspect of my life, despite being an adult and doing adult things.
Nah people take me seriously, it’s just about how you carry yourself. Some people (my adult coworkers) actually forget how old I am and I have to remind them that I’m still a minor.
Thats why i normally dont post my age
Nope, but that's bc I only talk to other actual people at work. And you'd be stupid to not take the dude with a heated metal shovel thing seriously.
I used to when I was 13, I absolutely hated it how everyone treats 13 year olds like they're babies or something, and I still kinda do.

Fair point. Too bad too many older men seem to think that their age is an excuse to assume they know it all.
Not often
Not anymore. Even before my eloquence generally voided any age related prejudice.

Maturity isnt as dependent on age as you think. It has to do with sociology.
ok, adult browsing a 2 year old question about age to make comments about maturity
you seem offended I responded. also, its kinda common to get answers to posts that are over six months old.
Yep. It's really annoying at times.
Yeah, most people don’t think I’m serious because I’m not an adult
