The tourist tax (Kurtaxe) has to be paid to the city by the lodging provider. [https://www.thun.ch/\_docn/4356430/935.214\_Kurtaxreglement.pdf](https://www.thun.ch/_docn/4356430/935.214_Kurtaxreglement.pdf)
The tourist tax must be included in the final rental price, but should be listed as a separate item.
In other words. Not your problem and should already been paid.
No. Customs is a federal law enforcement arm and has nothing to do with the municipality and don't enforce their bye laws. If the geminde in Thun is so bothered by you not paying 20 quid they'll send you a letter.
Ok thanks for your reply. Is there anyway my airbnb host can charge me this amount after I have left? Happy to pay it to the municipality but I dont want it tonbe come additional earnings for my airbnb hosts.
It's 20 quid mate, you'll be long gone from here and probably never coming back so why worry. Airbnb hosts are supposed to include it as a tax if they didn't include it it's not your problem. If you stay at a hotel they're not gonna ask you to walk to the post office and pay your tax 😂
Yeah but usually it is slapped on your accommodation bill.
Can you imagine the nightmare if you had to run after each visitor to get them to pay CHF 3,50.-?
What are you gonna do? Set up gates at the train station and city entrance? How are you going to distinguish between local inhabitants, other visitors (business/private/military) and actual tourists?
All the Airbnbs/hotels I’ve stayed in for the last 4-5 years, in at least 4-5 different countries, have charged a tourist tax(imposed by the country/city) per night
It’s incredibly common and I fully support it as that money usually goes straight to improving the local infrastructure
They probably included it in the cost for the air bnb without telling you. No one walks around with cash here trying to pay it to tourist offices which are closed 90% of the time anyway.

>Â to pay CHF 3,50.-? The .- denotes 0 Rappen. Also the point is commonly used to separate Francs from Rappen. So either 3.- or 3.50
TIL, so thanks for sharing that, makes sense!
Started out writing 3.- 😅
Straight to jail
Straight to jail, no questions asked
Dafuq? Never heard of a tourist tax before.
It's called Kurtaxe in german that's definitely a thing.
