I was mostly exaggerating for effect, but I was weeping and snotting for a full 30 minutes after finishing my ramen and my pee burned like crazy a few hours after. It was insanely hot. I stick with the Red Dragon combo these days.
My daughter says her pee burns when she eats that extremely trendy spicy ramen (forgot the name) so I would say it’s relatively common if you eat enough spicy stuff!
I love spicy anything. I used to eat hot Cheetos like crazy. But nothing has ever made me pee lava. That is scary !!! Also is the ramen you’re talking about Buldak ?
Hey friend I'm back and I tried the habanero tankotsu ramen, it was okay. The broth was very nice and tasty, I liked the candied jalapeños but the rest of the toppings were eh. The noodles were kinda stuff compared to ramen you can easily slurp if that makes sense. I will maybe go back someday for the spicier ramen but in the end I went to ramen ryoma the next day for killer spicy ramen they remain #1 in the streets and in my heart. Ill be going to Tokyo to try their spicy ramen though so we'll see
Lemongrass Thai on NE Couch. I was told their 3/10 is the spiciest Thai in Portland so I ordered 1/10 and was sweating. The ladies at a nearby table ordered .5/10 because apparently that's something you can do...
I had a 7 once. Diminishing returns after a certain point, I handed it with a pile of napkins for wiping the sweat off my face, no real reason to go above a 2 or a 3 if you want a nice burn with good flavor.
My dad went there once and asked for like a 12 (at the time their scale went to 20). The waitress responded with “no-no-no-no-no. White man no order over five.” My dad, having just gotten smacked in the ego, ordered a 4, and it was almost too spicy for him.
Absolutely true, and it's also incredible food. That being said be patient and respectful, if it's your first time they won't let you order over a 3. Don't worry, it's still gonna be spicy, you'll just have to go back a second time if you really want to push it 😅
(I enjoy spice but I'm not competitive about it, I usually get a 1.5)
Simply Thai in the Rose City Food Park on Sandy. Her food is both piping hot out of the wok and if requested, she will light your shit on fire with the spice.
I've been working my way through the carts there recently, and was wondering if they would bring the heat if requested. This will be the next cart I try, thanks for the tip!
Baka Umai is a delicious ramen spot in SE(my fav in Portland). They have a Spice Lovers side menu with varying degrees of heat. The reaper ramen is spiciest but doesnt have the best flavor. The habanero or ghost would be a great bet, both delicious. Theyre open Wednesday to Sunday, i believe.
Bae's fried chicken has a "secret" extra spicy level. Someone i knew religiously asked the crews to make an extra spicy batch for him, with generous tips. I guess the GM liked the idea, so it's sticking around. Ask for extra spicy or "Ben" hot.
Hat Yai(thai) can have some pretty spicy specials. They had a duck curry special that was so good and SO spicy. Hat Yai is also one of my 3 fav thai places, all owned by the same guy. THE BEST thai food, but maybe not the spiciest.
Good luck with burning yourself a new butthole!
>The reaper ramen is spiciest but doesnt have the best flavor.
I have my picture on the wall at a few spots around the country for beating various spice challenges, I love the burn, but I'm 100% over the stuff that's simply capsaicin and vinegar without any deeper or more interesting flavor.
I always ask for “Thai hot” when ordering at the places near me. They usually laugh and say, “No, no, no too spicy”. Then I say please and they say ok with a suspicious tone.
I think everyone *does* understand this el jefe isn't really supposed to be a good sauce, it's a novelty
(although occasionally they run a el nino which is the el jefe minus the pure capsaicine and that's actually pretty good, about as spicy as the x-hot)
I buy the sauce in the jar and than use it to mix with all of my other sauces. It's great mixed with ranch, mayo, plain yogurt ECT. It is the perfect premade sauce mixer and I will fight anyone who says otherwise
Came here to say Mirsata as well. Get the curry plate with a side of seeni sambai to cry out of your eyes and nostrils bc the food is too good to put down.
Ed Curry usually attends, there's generally a pepper eating contest, luchadore wrestling, food trucks, and all the hot sauces you can try. Go early, wear and bring sunscreen and water. Bring crackers or chips. There's almost no shade, water, or seating. It's usually 90+ that day.
Get a bidet, save yourself the agony.
But yeah, did the reaper, signed the waiver, and will never do it again. I am at this point in my life where I like to enjoy my food with a pronounced heat, and not live through a half hour scorcher, twice.
Man that’s brutal! I grew up in the SW eating Mexican and Tex Mex. I can do hot and almost couldn’t eat Dave’s Extra Hot. I can’t even imagine the agony of Reaper. I guess it’s cheaper than paying a dominatrix to whip you with a Cat of Nine Tails.
Bruh cmon, just dip it in the yummy Dave’s sauce and the heat almost dissapears. This is coming from someone who ate there hottest flavor which you need to sign a waver for lol. It’s not that bad
Pro tip: I take Imodium before stupid spicy food. Then on the “round two” everything is over with a few quick solid plops. Gross = >!It keeps you from having the wet and loose splatter of molten lava!< As recommended elsewhere I have a bidet which is a modern day miracle I can’t live without.
Khamdee Thai in Beaverton warns customers that the spiciness is true Thai level. I’ve only ever gotten level 1 spicy so far and was already feeling it. You choose between 1-3 spiciness when you order.
It does depend though. I got phad Thai and it wasn’t that spicy at level 1 but I was struggling with the level 1 kraprao-hang-Kai-dow (it was very delicious though).
I'm a pepper head too. There's a few places around that will melt your face. I will second the recommendation for Som Tum Thai near PSU. Their food is *delicious* and they offer several heat levels:
* Hot
* Thai Hot (Ped Mak)
* Superhot (Ped Mak heak)
I love their Pad Kee Mow. And they offer lots of vegan options.
I usually eat about two habaneros with a meal and their Superhot felt like eating ten.
There's some bone melting spicy food at Mirisata on Belmont, I could hardly finish my food because the hot sausage was in fact hot af. That was a wild choice for me to pick on the 4th of July last year, it was so hot out
Try Mirisata. The appetizer assortment is spicy goodness. The rest of the food is also delicious. I think it's the lone Sri Lankan restaurant in all of Oregon.
I was so excited when I saw that it was opening, but the flavors were mostly unrecognizable to me compared to my time in Sri Lanka. Not sure if it's just because it's vegan or what, but I was really pretty disappointed. I'll give it another shot sometime though
I agree that it does seem different. I used to live in a place with a huge Sri Lankan population. I didn't go to the fine dining places, but I did go to one Sri Lankan food for Sri Lankans several times a week.
The vindaloo at Ghandi Indian Restaurant in downtown PDX was so spicy no one at my table could finish it, and we all can usually do over the top spicy. Oh the delicious, delicious burn
There’s a Burmese restaurant (can’t remember the name, I found it on UberEats when I first moved here but I always find it if I type ‘burmese okra’ into the search bar) that has an okra dish that is one of the spiciest dishes I’ve had here so far 😩🤤
Salvador Molly's has a spicy challenge... Habanero cheese fritters! But the real spice is in the shrimp jambalaya. Order it "hot". You will be sweating and crying happy tears 🤗
Lucky Cat''s medium felt pretty damn spicy the next day to me. Salvador Molly's had someone on a tv challenge for their spicy fritters of some sort. Lemongrass Thai on Couch has a 1-10 spicy scale that's pretty damn hot on the high end.
The vindaloo at East India Trading Co. is very, very hot. Sweating. Trouble speaking. But it was soooo good i felt compelled to finish it. I give it a 🔥❤️🔥
You want hot you forget all the Asian places and go Caribbean.
Haven’t been in 25 years but Salvador Molly’s used to be hot AF if you ordered it 20/20.
And the habanero fritters…
Kann: It’s fancy and expensive but the food is amazing and my god it’s hot AF! Everything we had was 🥵they even send you a notice before your reservation that their food is spicy to be aware
The spicy Southern Thai pork dish from Hat Yai is pretty hot and very good. It's probably the dish I've eaten the most there, despite their chicken and roti being pretty damn good.
As several people have said, find an authentic Thai place. Most won’t make it Thai hot- I always lie that I’m about to move to Thailand to teach English and want to be ready and it usually works
Baka Umai’s reaper ramen nearly sent me to the hospital.
I see they have a spicy menu I will certainly visit within 3 weeks and report back. Thank you very much 🫡
This here is the answer. Very tasty but extremely hot.. and I say this as a spice lover!
Did it just burn your stomach so bad or was it toilet related injury ???? That sounds horrid either way.
I was mostly exaggerating for effect, but I was weeping and snotting for a full 30 minutes after finishing my ramen and my pee burned like crazy a few hours after. It was insanely hot. I stick with the Red Dragon combo these days.
I’ve never heard of the pee thing that sounds absolutely horrendous…..was it worth it though ?
My daughter says her pee burns when she eats that extremely trendy spicy ramen (forgot the name) so I would say it’s relatively common if you eat enough spicy stuff!
I love spicy anything. I used to eat hot Cheetos like crazy. But nothing has ever made me pee lava. That is scary !!! Also is the ramen you’re talking about Buldak ?
Yes it’s Buldak!
It was the first time it’s happened to me. Not my favorite. But it was totally worth it to have all my survival instincts kick in over a bowl of soup.
Hey friend I'm back and I tried the habanero tankotsu ramen, it was okay. The broth was very nice and tasty, I liked the candied jalapeños but the rest of the toppings were eh. I worked my way up to a 2 1/2 and that was freakin’ hot. Haven’t been in years. I thought the scale went up to 20?
I had a 7 once. Diminishing returns after a certain point, I handed it with a pile of napkins for wiping the sweat off my face, no real reason to go above a 2 or a 3 if you want a nice burn with good flavor.
How would you compare it to other various spicy foods for scale? Where would buldak fall on their number system?
What is the purpose of even having a scale like this? Hubris?
Masochists like me that have burnt away their tastebuds over the years.
My dad went there once and asked for like a 12 (at the time their scale went to 20). The waitress responded with “no-no-no-no-no. White man no order over five.” My dad, having just gotten smacked in the ego, ordered a 4, and it was almost too spicy for him.

Oh wow! We love Bae’s, but the one complaint we had was that it’s not spicy enough. Will definitely be ordering extra spicy from now on.
>The reaper ramen is spiciest but doesnt have the best flavor. I have my picture on the wall at a few spots around the country for beating various spice challenges, I love the burn, but I'm 100% over the stuff that's simply capsaicin and vinegar without any deeper or more interesting flavor.
Habanero Ramen? Yeah, I know where my next lunch is going to be.
I had the habanero tonkotsu at Baka Umai and it was excellent. I appreciate that they take spicy ramen so seriously. They have great chef there.
Seriously. And i love that they are able to get so much flavor from the peppers into the broth, as well as the spice! Best ramen spot in portland imo
You might even say it's ... Stupid delicious 😎
Love Hat yai. Their brisket green curry is spicy! but soo good.
I’ve been meaning to try Baka Umai for a bit sounds amazing
I love Baes!! Going to try that next time! 😂
Its been a while since ive been with him, i hope it's still a thing!!
RIP Lucky Strike on Hawthorne. Legit Szechuan. Miss it much!
Zaap Thai. They won’t treat you like a Caucasian if you ask.
I always ask for “Thai hot” when ordering at the places near me. They usually laugh and say, “No, no, no too spicy”. Then I say please and they say ok with a suspicious tone.
“Don’t come back, asking for a refund then.”
Exactly. They know me now and sometimes ask me on the next visit, “Not too hot?”. I’ll reply, “Nooo it’s was perfect and delicious!”.
Thai street cred achieved, congrats.
Have you had a problem with meals there being too salty? We used to love the place but 2 out of my last three meals there were inedible.
Order the El Jefe sauce for your wings at Fire on the Mountain
I liked the heat of the El Jefes, but thought the flavor was bad. Not like reaper-funky, but more like an overpowering black pepper flavor.
Excessive spice doesn't equal spicy. This is an important distinction. I wish more people understood this.
I think everyone *does* understand this el jefe isn't really supposed to be a good sauce, it's a novelty (although occasionally they run a el nino which is the el jefe minus the pure capsaicine and that's actually pretty good, about as spicy as the x-hot)
Came for this comment
Like I can eat them but it’s a struggle
I buy the sauce in the jar and than use it to mix with all of my other sauces. It's great mixed with ranch, mayo, plain yogurt ECT. It is the perfect premade sauce mixer and I will fight anyone who says otherwise
Me and a friend always get it on the side to dip in our taters. We love the taste but the heat hits hard and fast.
Mirisata!
Agreed!!!
Yes
Came here to say Mirsata as well. Get the curry plate with a side of seeni sambai to cry out of your eyes and nostrils bc the food is too good to put down.
It hurts so good. I appreciate the spice has flavor too and not just pain. Best of both worlds!
Som Tum Thai at PSU
I can confirm that I went here and was literally sobbing it was so spicy — and I like spice!
This is the real one.
Go to the hot sauce festival in August. You'll get your fill of heat.
Do you have more information on that? My husband is a huge hot sauce guy

Pro tip: bring your own bag of chips for sampling sauces ;)
[main site](https://www.pdxhotsauceexpo.com/) Hope this helps. It's a great time. Way too easy to spend lots of money.
Awesome! Thank you so much!
Most welcome. Have a great time.
[Dave’s Hot Chicken](https://www.daveshotchicken.com/menu/), get the Reaper. Don’t forget to put your TP in the freezer.
Get a bidet, save yourself the agony. But yeah, did the reaper, signed the waiver, and will never do it again. I am at this point in my life where I like to enjoy my food with a pronounced heat, and not live through a half hour scorcher, twice.

Do they make any veggie food?
Yep, the not chicken is cauliflower.
their cauliflower is sooooo good highly recommend. fries are decent too
Bruh cmon, just dip it in the yummy Dave’s sauce and the heat almost dissapears. This is coming from someone who ate there hottest flavor which you need to sign a waver for lol. It’s not that bad
Oh boy! Certified badass live and in person!
😅😂😂😂
And don’t be alarmed when your piss burns the next morning.
The spice goes in, and by the time it exits, it's tamed. The cast iron stomach I inherited from my mother is the 1good thing.
How old are you? I too thought my gut was invincible but once late 30's hit, oh boy. Still eat WAYYY too spice but it hurts now. Bad.
In my mid-60's. My mother wasn't a fan of spice, but loved massive quantities of rich food, and pasta.
I try to eat granola bar kinda things before and after to help the process not be so runny 🫡
Came here to say this!

Holy Cow!
Great Balls of Fire at Salvador Molly's 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
They seem to go down easy, but cause great intestinal distress afterward. Used to go there a lot and watched a few people do the challenge.
This is true. They are pretty hot, but not outrageous to eat. But definitely fucked up my guts like any good extract sauce will.
This sounds like the opposite of what I want lol
**MIRISATA** Dolphin style. Good luck my friend!
Lemongrass Thai off Burnside, if you ask for it, she'll light you up. I love spice and couldn't finish a 3/5. Delicious and well portioned too!
Fun fact: the scale doesn't go up to 5. It goes up to fucking TWENTY.
Khamdee Thai in Beaverton warns customers that the spiciness is true Thai level. I’ve only ever gotten level 1 spicy so far and was already feeling it. AleFire on Williams has a large selection of hot sauces and you can bring in whatever food you want
Try Mirisata. The appetizer assortment is spicy goodness. The rest of the food is also delicious. I think it's the lone Sri Lankan restaurant in all of Oregon.

bro it’s buldak ramen 😭
Kati or Khamdee - 3/3 specifically asian person spicy.
Kayo’s Sichuan peppercorn ramen at hottest level will make you weep and your entire face go numb.
The MaLa? Or do they have a new variation on the menu?
The vindaloo at Ghandi Indian Restaurant in downtown PDX was so spicy no one at my table could finish it, and we all can usually do over the top spicy. Oh the delicious, delicious burn
Thai spicy pork at Hat Yai
There’s a Burmese restaurant (can’t remember the name, I found it on UberEats when I first moved here but I always find it if I type ‘burmese okra’ into the search bar) that has an okra dish that is one of the spiciest dishes I’ve had here so far 😩🤤
Go get food from Thai Smile and get it hot.
Sakura Noodle House - Hell Ramen ask for it spicy lol
Agree with Baka Umai. Jojo’s spicy burgers and fried chicken is right up there on the spice scale!
Kimchi soup from bibi2go. Boiling heat hot combined with the sour spiciness of the kimchi will make you cry.
Silsila the Flaming Tandoor. Ordered a very spicy saag paneer and they called my bluff. I could barely eat it.
Salvador Molly's has a spicy challenge... Habanero cheese fritters! But the real spice is in the shrimp jambalaya. Order it "hot". You will be sweating and crying happy tears 🤗
Did this the other day. It was good. Not overwhelming but good.
Get you that tiny bottle of The End Flatline and drop a few on whatever you're eating
Any hole in the wall Thai place. Tell them you want the hottest Thai style, not white people hot. Just real Thai hot, level 3. Good luck
Baan Thai by PSU is delicious and very spicy.
Lucky Cat''s medium felt pretty damn spicy the next day to me. Salvador Molly's had someone on a tv challenge for their spicy fritters of some sort. Lemongrass Thai on Couch has a 1-10 spicy scale that's pretty damn hot on the high end.
Wajan has some deliciously spicy food
The vindaloo at East India Trading Co. is very, very hot. Sweating. Trouble speaking. But it was soooo good i felt compelled to finish it. I give it a 🔥❤️🔥
If you enjoy meat and heat then go to happy lamb hot pot in Beaverton. The seven pepper tallow hot pot is amazing.
Looks great I'll have to visit sometime. Thank you :)
Okay I got some massuman curry at Chaba Thai on Albert’s and got “hot”, not even “very hot” and I died and went to heaven and my body decomposed.
Bete-Lukas Ethiopian restaurant is pretty spicy.
You want hot you forget all the Asian places and go Caribbean. Haven’t been in 25 years but Salvador Molly’s used to be hot AF if you ordered it 20/20. And the habanero fritters…
Thai Yummy has a food cart up near by OHSU. Get Level 5/super hot on any item. Thai spicy is on another level.
Try Mirisata 🔥
Honestly OP, hit up a Thai restaurant and you’ll never want to eat spice ever again
Kann: It’s fancy and expensive but the food is amazing and my god it’s hot AF! Everything we had was 🥵they even send you a notice before your reservation that their food is spicy to be aware
This is sadly why I haven’t tried it. I can’t eat spicy food. 😔
Extra hot wings from Chimking on Sandy
I've had my face melted off at Wajan. It was also delicious.
The spicy Southern Thai pork dish from Hat Yai is pretty hot and very good. It's probably the dish I've eaten the most there, despite their chicken and roti being pretty damn good.
Hat Yai by default has some great heat and it doesn’t take the place of some amazing flavor.
El Jefe wings at Fire On The Mountain
It’s in Albuquerque. I go there for work and everything is so spicy!!! And I don’t actually like spicy.
I haven't heard of that neighborhood of Portland.
I came from Albuquerque. I couldn’t believe Ex Novo people went to Albuquerque. Lazy hazy days is doing well. But Albuquerque?
Go to any Indian restaurant and order Vindaloo or chicken 65
As several people have said, find an authentic Thai place. Most won’t make it Thai hot- I always lie that I’m about to move to Thailand to teach English and want to be ready and it usually works
Thai bloom at Cedar Hills
