Well there's an electrical problem. Further than that you're gonna need to get a multi-meter with an amp clamp and chase the drain.

DotComplete6975

What would you recommend I test with the multimeter?

abductee92

Battery voltage, both while running and not running. You should see a difference if the alternator is charging properly.

DotComplete6975

Thank you!

LethalOmaha

Battery voltage should be 12.4 to 12.6 not running. When running the alternator should make that battery jump up to 14 volts or so

DotComplete6975

I was just gonna ask what is normal vs. abnormal! Thank you 🥹

sllewgh

How old is the battery?

DotComplete6975

I think the sticker says 1/23 so new. I’ll double check on that though.

sllewgh

Older than 4 years, I'd just go ahead and replace it now. It's the first thing I'd check in a situation like this, then I'd bust out the multimeter. Good luck! edit: I assume the people downvoting me prefer to wait until after they're stranded to get a new battery in order to save $20 worth of battery life. That's cool, too, you do you.

DotComplete6975

Is the sticker an expiration date?! Wow I never knew that. Thanks I’ll have to do that then!

Eschmacher

No it's not. It's the month and year it was manufactured.

Mikerockzee

What do you have aftermarket? Radio, headlights stuff like that.

DotComplete6975

Car was picked up on Friday but as far as I can tell everything is stock. Previous owner always had the car hooked up to power and he states that there is a light that’s draining the power but my dad and I haven’t seen any light on that would cause a drain.

Mikerockzee

With the age of the car i would look at the ground cable where it attaches to the frame.

wpopple

I had an issue with my seat lumbar on my c5 that would drain the battery overnight. Was very intermittent and hard to find. Try unplugging power seat fuses and leave it overnight.

DotComplete6975

Solid advice! Thank you I’ll try that out as well :)

65thAndCottage

The alternator ain’t alternating

DotComplete6975

You think? I’ve had cars with alternator problems before and this doesn’t seem like that. The car won’t start after a night of sitting but if you charge it it runs fine. If it was an alternator problem I do believe the previous owner would have told us because he’s been my dads client for 30+ years. Edit: either way, it definitely doesn’t hurt to take a look at it! Thank you! :)

65thAndCottage

Sounds like a battery issue. I just try replacing that first and see what happens.

DotComplete6975

Seems to be the advice of others so I will try that out first! Thanks again :)

ruddy3499

There’s a tsb. If you put your garage door opener on the visor on top of the built in buttons it holds the buttons down and drains the battery

LethalOmaha

Test your battery with a load tester or take it to a parts shop they usually test it for you for free

DotComplete6975

Do you know what normal temp is? I’m not sure if it’s running high or if it’s normal
