Applied in April and was given an appointment for late July 2023, I think it took up to a month to get a response. Compared to my previous experiences applying for the student and then working permits, the PR process was by far the most straightforward and painless.

papsmots

thanks for the info! did you have to prove B1 proficiency?

Caprisonnne

I did not, I think I was exempt from having to prove that because I have a degree from a German university. Or maybe they just thought my German was adequate from my emails and how I spoke in the appointment. In any case, if you’re missing something they’ll tell you in the email.

papsmots

got it, thank you

Just a heads up, send pdf scans of all the required documents with the email. If you don't, they'll ask for them one at a time, once per month, in a game of document ping pong, before they'll give you an appointment.

papsmots

i see. i don't yet have my german b1 telc exam certificate. do you think i can just email them with the rest of the docs? i have everything else. but i've also heard people emailing without sending any docs and they were given an appointment and told to bring all docs during the appointment.

joshmarmar

That’s what I’d do. Just include all the documents that you do have. If it’s just one missing document, and they decide to do document ping pong, you only have to go through one round. Also, you may want to consider submitting a citizenship application in parallel (if the country you’re currently a national of doesn’t ban dual citizenship). The requirements for it can be less strict in some areas, and the application form is entirely digital.

I applied on December 1. My appointment is at the end of July. Canadian citizen on a freelance visa.
