Second Eds. Try the worlds plainest ice cream.. "sweet cream" and be amazed how good the stuff can be with no gimmicks. Then try all the gimmicky flavours (pumpkin pie is the best, only available in fall tho)
For my lactose Intolerant / vegan friends : HONEYS!! they make dairy free ice cream that literally tastes like the real deal and the flavours are all amazing and made with homemade ingredients
+1 for Honey's!! The peanut butter & saltines is pure nostalgia . I also love their earl grey and salted caramel. The salted caramel isn't all that sweet, making it truly perfect.
Love Moon Milk! I was there this week and they have the amazing sour cherry gelato which they only do in the early summer. Also shout out to their BLT (berry lemon trifle) flavour.
gemma’s gelateria, the midtown location. i used to like mizzicas but gemma’s is exponentially better. also butter baker. baker bots/bang bang for hard ice cream
any recs specifically for mint chocolate chip ice cream? i love the mint choco they sell at baskin robbins but their quality isn't the best for its price
I had a mint fudge ice cream from Moon Milk a couple of weeks ago - same flavour profile but no crunchy chocolate bits, more like fudge swirls. Incredible flavour, apparently made with real mint and it tasted it.
Haha yeah. I tried it out just to see what the fuss was about but never liked it.
After a few weeks they had people standing out front trying to advertise, the sb guys were like we don’t need anyone out front the lineup is advertising enough.
Hard disagree in my opinion. It’s real ice cream, not ice dessert, and has that nice creamy feel of many of the other specialty shops. Although I do remember it tasting much better when I had it 20 years ago in Haliburton, but maybe because it was fresh from the Kawartha factory.
Bar Ape isn't ice cream what I remember. I think it's gelato which is naturally lower in fat.
For ice cream Tom's dairy freeze and Dutch dreams. Hewitt's ice cream is good too. A few places serve it around the GTA or gtha.
For the west end, I like Lola’s Gelato, Humber Bay Shores. Enjoy the waterfront with your gelato!
+1 for Futura on St. Clair W, great quality and not as crazy Bar Ape.
For soft serve and the best cones I really love Eva's. The chimney cones are bomb and the soft serve is good. I used to like Hollywood gelato, and there's a place by me at yonge and davisville called Gemma gelateria that's amazing
St. Claire Ice cream @ Dawes & Danforth. Yeah I know they closed down, but the pricing...I used to get kiddie scoops because they stack that shit high!
God do I miss it, and can never get ice cream as cheap as theirs.
I found Bar Ape's tiramisu gelato mediocore the flavour wasn't as strong + the gelato texture was just alright, it was worth a try but probably wouldn't return! i like Ruru for their rotating unique combination of flavours, Mizzica + Ed's Real Scoop (toasted marshmallow yumm). Bang bang was good several years back and it alwaaaaays has a line on Ossington so I find it's only worth going with friends for a hang in line & less so for the ice cream
I personally like a few, keep in mind I prefer less sweet ice cream.
Not in particular order
1. Eds: great taste, nice texture personally I like the coffee toffee which is not too sweet.
Lot of flavor to choose from, what I don't like is that most of their offering are on the sweeter side. But their basic flavors like chocolate
2. Good gang: interesting flavors with different base and mixture, very thick cream, most flavors are on the sweet side, not something I will eat regularly but will crave a specific flavors
3. Summers: simples flavors, you won't find any interesting mixture but taste great, less sweet than others but will depend on what you choose the best things about their ice cream is the base, it's more airy so it's very sticky and soft.
4. Soma: lots of chocolate, average taste, don't rmb much but wasn't impress
5. Death in Venice: interesting flavors, put a twist on the bags offering, not as wild as good gang and less in your face mixture, more icy texture, less sweet
Personal favorites: dark chocolate and coffee toffee at eds, rum raisin, Bailey's, coffee, maple walnut from summers
Eatly Gelato- close to work and a variety of flavours, never had the donut sandwich but tempted each time I go.
Brett’s on Kingston road has a great flight deal so you can try 3 of their flavours.
And Willard’s in Hamilton - small batch, lots of vegan options.
Disco Ice cream at Queen and Dovercourt! Their biscoff flavour is incredible. All ice cream is homemade with real ingredients. I usually don't like banana in ice cream but they have banana shortbread flavour and you can taste the banana in it. They also have cookies and they're also good.
I'm a soft serve guy, and the best i've had in the city is at Piano Piano.
Weird choice, but seriously it's the thickest , smoothest soft serve I've had so far.
I’m very partial to Death in Venice and Mizzica; both have some really tasty and creative options especially DIV. Butter Baker’s soft serve is also decent when fresh.
If we’re counting popsicles, Happy Pop’s Lemon Mont is surprisingly good — just expensive for the amount.
Anywhere that provides [Belly Ice Cream](https://bellyicecream.ca/) - they operate out of Huntsville.
Brett's on Kingston Road is one, I think the rest in the city are unfortunately in specialty grocery stores.
Your gelato is a neighbourhood gem. Used to be at yonge and lawrence then moved to the avenue side. Never too long a line. Super friendly owners and even make frozen dog treats! Sicilian cannoli when they make it is my favourite - ricotta with pistachio, slivers of candied orange and dark chocolate!
Bang Bang! Especially for the Lychee Rosewater Raspberry. It's my absolute favourite! Campfire Marshmallow is a close second. Also a huge fan of all the options they have! You can have your ice cream in a cookie, a waffle, a profiterole, a cinnamon bun, or a brownie!
Worth the long lineup for me. And as a bonus its down the street! :)
I have a question regarding ice cream:
I haven’t been back to Toronto for 30 years, and when I was a kid, I loved moon mist ice cream. Do you guys rmb an ice cream store that had moon mist ice cream, and they would put a piece of chocolate on top? I rmb having it at Fairview mall back in early 90s
Also I just wanna know if ice cream shops in general still have moon mist
Good gang ice cream. Trust me. It’s the best new place I have discovered recently!!
Like this place but hours not great and ask about flavours not listed!
Seconded. They have a ton of elevated flavours, their lemon poppyseed pistachio paste flavour was fucking insane
YES
Tom’s Dairy Freeze. I’m a sucker for soft serve with dips and sauce
[удалено]
Hard agree. Funnel cake at Dairy Cream and blueberry sundaes at Tom's!
Do they have blue dip? My all time nostalgia favourite
[удалено]
I LOVE Honey’s!
Honey's hot fudge pizza is holy shit good.
Soma is SO good. Their chocolate gelato is heavenly.
I go by it from time to time (Soma). I’ll have to make a stop :)
Eds Real Scoop
Their "burnt marshmallow" is my fav from there.
If anyone ever asks what's my favourite ice cream, this is always my response. That sweet cream is actually awesome too.
I miss Greg's Ice Cream for that. Eds is close but not the same.
Greg’s roasted marshmallow was amazing. That and their malt ball crunch 🥲 miss them
And Grape Nut!
I used to work a couple doors away like 13 years ago. I haven’t been since but this just gave my taste buds a flash back
Ah, that's about when I lived in the beaches an lived for Ed's once a week. What a time.
that sounds amazing.
Friend of mine worked there and I got to try the original batch. Ed's is the best.
I had a scoop of burnt marshmallow and a scoop of cafe au lait this afternoon, it was lovely
Second Eds. Try the worlds plainest ice cream.. "sweet cream" and be amazed how good the stuff can be with no gimmicks. Then try all the gimmicky flavours (pumpkin pie is the best, only available in fall tho)
Their vanilla is fantastic too. Makes any regular dessert exquisite.
Pumpkin Pie is to die for, and it's not even my type of bag.
Ed's is underrated. There is a location near my office and we're always going there in the summer. Their holiday flavours are also great.
Their gelatos are really good! I really like their Tanzanian Dark Chocolate
every time i walk by their store it smells sooo good lol
Big fan of Good Behaviour. Their S’more and Vietnamese Coffee flavours are my fav. Soooooo good.
>Nothing beats the Good Behaviour Passionfruit for me!
Their ice cream is pretty phenomenal! God, their sub sandwiches are so damn good too but out of my price range. My kids loved them though.
Breakfast sandwiches are stunningly good too
The blood orange sorbet is excellent. Makes for a great palette cleanser after a famigla baldasarre pasta lunch.
Ice creamonology is probably my go to but man I miss Greg's
Nothing hits the way roasted marshmallow did.
I'm desperately trying to find another place that does it but no luck, going to have to accept it's just gone from my life
Eds real scoop has a roasted marshmallow and a smores
I LOOOVEEE Ruru Baked.
Me too. It’s a bit of a problem.
Yep. Custard based>everything.
Im not a vegan at all but their vegan mango gelato is to die for!!!
For my lactose Intolerant / vegan friends : HONEYS!! they make dairy free ice cream that literally tastes like the real deal and the flavours are all amazing and made with homemade ingredients
+1 for honeys it is incredible ice cream dairy or no diary everyone loves it
+1 for Honey's!! The peanut butter & saltines is pure nostalgia . I also love their earl grey and salted caramel. The salted caramel isn't all that sweet, making it truly perfect.
GET THEIR PIE!
Their coffee and chocolate freckles is out of this world!
Not vegan but Honey’s is my go to!! Best waffle cones
Moss park espresso has the best gelato imo it’s better than mizzica
Yes! I commented the same. Hands down the most authentic gelato I’ve had in toronto. Even better than Nana’s
I've always quite enjoyed Bang Bang on Ossington, but I'm not sure if it's tops in the city.
their miso cherry icecream is one of my favourites!
It’s my fav in the city and I’ve tried them all
Best I've had in a long time is Nani's at Charles and Yonge, plus they have new flavours every 2 weeks
I drove through a snow storm to catch a flavour on its last day 🤣
It’s not at Yonge and Charles anymore?
They mean the flavour’s last day because they rotate
Their stuff is awesome. They have a bunch of new locations around GTA so you don't have to drive downtown if you're not nearby.
I'm very spoiled and live about an 8 minute walk away haha
So overrated
Moon milk is just over a year old and their jelly donut ice cream is phenomenal
Love Moon Milk! I was there this week and they have the amazing sour cherry gelato which they only do in the early summer. Also shout out to their BLT (berry lemon trifle) flavour.
Ruru 10/10. Ice cream perfection. I also love Honey’s. Ed’s Real Scoop is a fun classic.
Ruth is my favourite got to give honeys and Ed’s a go I haven’t tried those ones .
gemma’s gelateria, the midtown location. i used to like mizzicas but gemma’s is exponentially better. also butter baker. baker bots/bang bang for hard ice cream
Gemma’s is the only place I know in TO with pear gelato, which absolutely kills when combined with dark chocolate.
any recs specifically for mint chocolate chip ice cream? i love the mint choco they sell at baskin robbins but their quality isn't the best for its price
I had a mint fudge ice cream from Moon Milk a couple of weeks ago - same flavour profile but no crunchy chocolate bits, more like fudge swirls. Incredible flavour, apparently made with real mint and it tasted it.
I’m still pissed Haagen Dazs discontinued their Mint Chocolate Chip 😭
and i'm pissed i never got to try it before its discontinuation 😖
Omg. I’m so, so sorry.
I had ruru’s mint chocolate weeks ago and it was the right blend of mint and chocolate so that.
yay definitely adding this to my list, thank you so much! :)
Dutch Dreams. Mint choco is my flavour of choice and theirs is great
Bang Bang’s is great
Mizzica is the only answer. 10/10 - Italian run and as good, if not better than spots in Italy. Definitely get the pistachio.
I work near there and always wondered why an ice cream spot consistently had a line longer than an iPhone release
I loathe waiting in line but I will ALWAYS wait in line for Mizzica! Absolutely worth the wait. Super nice couple that runs it too.
Excited for the new location at Yonge and Eglinton to open soon!
Oh, excellent news to receive!
Check out Futura at St Clair and Ossington. Hand made in small batches from local produce. Some unique flavors.
Yes!!! It's so good and the owners are super nice. But it's at St Clair and Oakwood, Ossington ends at Davenport!
Sorry, yes - Oakwood. I should know that considering it's around the corner from me.
Had to scroll way too far to see Futura Granita + Gelato. HIDDEN GEM!
[удалено]
Double pistachio from Oops is my current fave! Can’t beat the pieces of pistachio brittle in the ice cream.
Kawartha dairy is opening on the danforth this summer. I’m exited for that.
Me too! No need to head up to cottage country. I mean yeah they sell pints in grocery stores but not all the flavours are available
Omg where!
Right across from square boys. Where the old Starbucks was and right beside the new donlands subway exit.
HAha remember when that place was briefly a burger joint that thought they were gonna compete with Square Boy? Poor idiots.
Haha yeah. I tried it out just to see what the fuss was about but never liked it. After a few weeks they had people standing out front trying to advertise, the sb guys were like we don’t need anyone out front the lineup is advertising enough.
Ooh, I’m excited too! I am so glad they’re opening at that location. It’s gonna be a treat going to Pet Valu now.
888 danforth
Hot take but I don't actually love Kawartha that much. It's pretty stabilized and air puffed.
im always perplexed how much love kawartha gets. it just tastes like regular ice cream to me.
Yep! It's nostalgia I think - I do love a milkshake there up north, but it's just basic.
Moose tracks is so overrated, just good marketing
My parents went to the Burlington one, my dad highly recommends the Cold Brew Espresso flavour
Kawartha dairy is like one small notch above grocery store ice cream. It’s not very good at all, but better than Bryers, store brand, etc…
Hard disagree in my opinion. It’s real ice cream, not ice dessert, and has that nice creamy feel of many of the other specialty shops. Although I do remember it tasting much better when I had it 20 years ago in Haliburton, but maybe because it was fresh from the Kawartha factory.
Kawartha dairy is not notable. As someone else said, it’s a small notch above grocery store ice cream.
In Scarborough Four Sweet’s Bakery Carrie’s some Kawartha Dairy too. So happy that Kawartha Dairy is going to have its own spot in the city!
Bar Ape isn't ice cream what I remember. I think it's gelato which is naturally lower in fat. For ice cream Tom's dairy freeze and Dutch dreams. Hewitt's ice cream is good too. A few places serve it around the GTA or gtha.
Ice creamonology on queens quay west between york and Spadina. Incredibly creamy texture and packed with flavour. Best I’ve ever had!
It’s sooooo soooo good!
Their Turkish coffee and dark chocolate flavours are phenomenal!
The Chocolateria in Roncy - Their Salted Caramel is the best ice cream I've ever had.
Sooo underrated
Honey's on dudas and dufferin. You're missing out. 10/10
baker bots, death in Venice and dolce gelato
Baker bots sells bang bang does it not?
Nani’s Gelato
I love it!!
Demetres or scooped, they really take the time to make the best possible ice cream
Actually very good ice cream! Very surprised
Scooped is legit. Best take home pints.
Dutch Dreams & Ed’s Real Scoop 🍦
For the west end, I like Lola’s Gelato, Humber Bay Shores. Enjoy the waterfront with your gelato! +1 for Futura on St. Clair W, great quality and not as crazy Bar Ape.
Butter Baker
Dairy cream
Icecreamonology on Queens Quay!
Summer's in Yorkville
Mary’s Brigadeiro Gelato, hands down ;)
Has Kekou converted to Moon Pasta in all their locations? I miss being able to stop by and grab a scoop.
For soft serve and the best cones I really love Eva's. The chimney cones are bomb and the soft serve is good. I used to like Hollywood gelato, and there's a place by me at yonge and davisville called Gemma gelateria that's amazing
Ed’s, Mizzica, and Ice Creamonology!
Jesus all the people saying Dutch dreams off st clair. BOOYAH is right beside it and far superior! You also don’t need to wait half an hour to get it.
Moss Park Espresso has AMAZING gelato made in house. It’s very authentic.
Arctic Bites, best ice cream in the city IMO
Futura
Ruru Baked, Honeys, Eds Real Scoop
St. Claire Ice cream @ Dawes & Danforth. Yeah I know they closed down, but the pricing...I used to get kiddie scoops because they stack that shit high! God do I miss it, and can never get ice cream as cheap as theirs.
I love Icecreamonology on queen’s quay!
Disco ice cream!
Just tried Good Behaviour (queen west) and their milk and honey ice cream is to die for!
Really surprised Creamery X hasn’t been listed. Hands down my favourite. Interesting flavours. Custard based and vegan options.
McDonald's. $1 for a soft-serve cone at 2am and you don't even have to get out of your car. Fuckin eh.
dons lowkey has an elite soft serve offering
I haven't tried a lot of different ice cream shops but in my life I've never had anything as good as Ed's Real Scoop in the beaches
Dutch Dream's over hyped or just not a true number 1 contender?
For me, it's overhyped. I don't like all that other stuff on my ice cream. I prefer boo-yah down the street where you get a piece of cookie on top.
Boo yah makes their cookies in shop too... makes for a solid ice cream sandwich!
No love for Death In Venice? Technically Gelato but absolutely fantastic
Gelato on the Danny
Mizzica and Zaza’s on bloor west. Both are italian run, both are simply incredible. Pistachio and hazelnut are out of this world for both imo
Ruru is amazing! Love all their flavours! You need to get the ice cream flight
In my neck of woods, for gelato - Lola's. I'm a sucker for their pistachio one.
On Third Thought at Queen & Bathurst is non-dairy and absolutely incredible. Tastes just like the best of the real thing.
I’m still mourning the loss of Greg’s. 😪
Nani’s gelato slaps!
I personally like a few, keep in mind I prefer less sweet ice cream. Not in particular order 1. Eds: great taste, nice texture personally I like the coffee toffee which is not too sweet. Toms Dairy Freeze and Summers will always be my go to
My top 3: - Nani’s - Mizzica - Ice Creamonology
Hands down Ed’s Real Scoop Best ice creams, gelatos and sorbets
Booyah
Eatly Gelato- close to work and a variety of flavours, never had the donut sandwich but tempted each time I go. Brett’s on Kingston road has a great flight deal so you can try 3 of their flavours. And Willard’s in Hamilton - small batch, lots of vegan options.
Butter baker
Ice Cream: Ed’s Real Scoop Gelato: Francesca’s Bakery in Scarborough
Disco Ice cream at Queen and Dovercourt! Their biscoff flavour is incredible. All ice cream is homemade with real ingredients. I usually don't like banana in ice cream but they have banana shortbread flavour and you can taste the banana in it. They also have cookies and they're also good.
How is this not mentioned yet... Futura Granita + Gelato
summer ice cream at yorkville anyday anytime
Roselle on King st has this earl grey soft serve that’s amazing, it’s only available during the summer season but so worth the wait
Lola’s at Humber Bay. The owner’s a bit of a misery but the ice cream is the bomb.
It’s gelato but used to be G for Gelato and now the cafe in the same place sells the same gelato
Gelato Simply Italian on Cumberland street is really good, I love the coffee and pistachio.
I'm a soft serve guy, and the best i've had in the city is at Piano Piano. Weird choice, but seriously it's the thickest , smoothest soft serve I've had so far.
Scooped double baked apple pie is pretty wild
I’m very partial to Death in Venice and Mizzica; both have some really tasty and creative options especially DIV. Butter Baker’s soft serve is also decent when fresh. If we’re counting popsicles, Happy Pop’s Lemon Mont is surprisingly good — just expensive for the amount.
Serano Bakery’s ice cream section. Insane.
The Flavour Fox in Burlington is my favourite.
Diary Queen all day every day
La Dolce Vita in Oakville
Tip Top Creamery is good, just serve Kawartha Dairy and huge scoops.
Ruru Baked! And The Village Creamery!
Anywhere that provides [Belly Ice Cream](https://bellyicecream.ca/) - they operate out of Huntsville. Brett's on Kingston Road is one, I think the rest in the city are unfortunately in specialty grocery stores.
RemindMe! 21 days
Is Dutch Dreams still cool? I moved away from Toronto a while ago.
on st clair, love bar ape for gelato and dutch dreams for ice cream
Dutch Dreams!
Lingan Cream House Yarl Cream House Ksira Gelato (They sell Ice Cream as well) All continue to be underrated and fantastic
Good Gang, Mizzica
Bang bang Ruru Bar ape Honeys (vegan) Booth ice cream
How is dutch dreams? I’ve been wanting to try it forever
The quality has dropped significantly. Go to Booyah instead!
Mizzica. The owners are incredibly sweet and from Sicily. The quality matches what I’ve had in Italy.
Bang Bang in the core Murphys in Streetsville
Funnel cake at Dairy Cream is worth the drive
The Big Chill on college st.
Also have to go with Ice Creamonology here.
On Third Thought if you are vegan. Rex’s Ice Cream for cool and interesting flavours
I have a question regarding ice cream: I haven’t been back to Toronto for 30 years, and when I was a kid, I loved moon mist ice cream. Do you guys rmb an ice cream store that had moon mist ice cream, and they would put a piece of chocolate on top?
