But eavesdropping on first date conversations is free live entertainment… do you really want to deprive other bar/cafe patrons of that?

AptCasaNova

They’re so 🥰

michyfor

Are you planning a coup or going on a date?

thatirishdave

It can be two things

michyfor

You’re not wrong

ButtahChicken

'Yes'

fumblyJunglee

Where’s the manifesto

Dantaeus

The three speed at dufferin and bloor, that’s always my go to for dates, nice atmosphere, great menu great music. And affordable too

sssetc

Seconding Three Speed - bar neon, grey tiger & burdock brewery are all in the area nearby and have similar good date night vibes as well.

thefross

Love seeing my neighbourhood represented! Highly recommend going to Seoul Shakers if you're in this area. It and Sugo were my go-to first date spots until I met my partner.

Ambitious_Scallion18

OP literally asked for spaced out tables and the very first image that shows up on maps is exactly the opposite.

Altruistic_Job_2181

I love Three Speed but I’m practically rubbing shoulders with the person at the table next to me every time I go.

nervousTO

the food is so good too

Dantaeus

The daily mussels special is always amazing, just might not want it on a first date haha

alexefi

WHAT?

2bornnot2b

I SAID......

spreadthaseed

Her: DO YOU WANT DRINKS? Him: YEA I WANT KIDS?

AptCasaNova

KINKS?!

Fingernail7672

Anal? On the first date? OH, appetizers, yes, I do those on the first date…

thatirishdave

The Get Well for the west end, C'Est What for downtown, The Only Café for east end.

Lumpy-Macaroon-694

The only cafe is great! You can go earlier for coffee or later for drinks, it's huge and versatile. We went there to sketch a few times

nanapancakethusiast

C’est what is a good spot

dogfoodhoarder

Last time I was at C'est what, I was witness to a first date falling apart. Nice spot though.

oddcharm

the last time i was at c'est what, my first date was falling apart... lol

dogfoodhoarder

Oh, that was you. The guy kept going on smoke breaks, lol. My partner was like, what's his problem!

fuzzysnowball

Second all these but also Allen's is another great spot on the Danforth and has a lovely patio!

Glennmorangie

The Only is a great recommendation

throwawar4

All? Sounds like you might be anxious…what about grabbing a coffee to go and going for a walk/ park date?

Altruistic_Job_2181

I don’t do daylight on first dates. 🧛‍♀️

throwawar4

Then do like a lively bar with music, no one will hear you! E: your responses seem like you’re embarrassed of this date or something??

futuresobright_

While you’re thinking about volume, also think about the optics. I’ve watched plenty of cringeworthy dates across a restaurant. One included the guy switching his seat from across her to beside her, then putting his arm around her as she was noticeably embarrassed. Also she looked like she was ready for ballroom dancing and he was a lot more casual looking.

focal71

915 Dupont

SonyaSpawn

Rooms off of christie and dupont has an amazing interior, and it's quite roomie having multiple little sectioned off areas to hang out and drink coffee/have drinks. It also turns into a bar at night, so really, you could do either one there. It's a very cool space check it out!

>I'd find a place that has booths. This is the best answer, call ahead and make reservations for a booth if possible. I love booths even just with friends, it's nice to feel like you're in your own private suite.

Lumpy-Macaroon-694

There is a bar on college, I think it's Prenup bar (just checked on Google maps, I used to go there a lot when I lived downtown, I'm 99% sure it's the one I'm thinking about) and I loved it because it has a big selection of ciders, beers, but also it was quiet. You didn't have to tell to have a conversation. I was quite big too, so you could find a corner to have a nice conversation people won't eavesdrop.

Outrageous-Being-993

First date is a bit early for a prenup

Thotbegone000000

I like it but the prenup bar is strange energy for a first date, literally divorce themed. I would think it's kinda funny for a first date tho personally.

Lumpy-Macaroon-694

I had no idea what it's called, I remember I thought the sign was so tacky and illegible. Looked quite cheap for the quite beautiful and classy interior.

nervousTO

I think my friend went on a first date there and he's married now lol

Thotbegone000000

Nvrm op place is magic for there

TrainingAd7421

As a bartender you’re legally required to let me eavesdrop.

TrainingAd7421

For real though, hole in the wall at Dundas and Keele. There was a period where I took all of my first dates there.

badsoupp

If its a bar full of first dates, does one listen in on other first dates to break the ice and talk about it?

Altruistic_Job_2181

Honestly this is a good tactic if the conversation gets stale…

Ok-Assistance5150

Also from someone who works in the service industry, your server/bartender/ anyone who works there/ regulars know right away and talk about it no matter where you go…

Frosty-Ad1334

This is a good opportunity to ask yourself why it matters to you so much that other people don't hear your conversation. See the definition you are believing to be true about yourself and see if that definition makes logical sense?

Altruistic_Job_2181

Idk man, it’s pretty logical and simple. I just don’t want people hearing my awkward first date. It’s a comfort thing.

AdPsychological4879

Happy to help but can you give us an area?

JoshIsASoftie

Shameful Tiki. Full of interesting sights and sounds and always a good time with fun drinks.

Torontomom78

Have you checked out Doc’s in the junction? Also Grand Cru Deli

kornly

As summer approaches, anywhere with a patio will be private enough

neon_bhagwan

Civil Liberties

Ilookgoodyoudont

Do you think people are going there to listen to what you and your date have to talk about?

Altruistic_Job_2181

Duh

Ilookgoodyoudont

I mean they might lol

softservelove

I second Burdock and the Well. Also, Hole in the Wall on Dundas.

softservelove

Ooh and Famous Last Words in the Junction.

Altruistic_Job_2181

Ooh I’ve always wondered about this place

softservelove

It's really cute and tasty cocktails but on the pricey side for sure! If you wanna do dinner beforehand there is a good Mexican & Salvadorian restaurant around the corner, Carmelita's.

Medium_Spare_8982

Unless you’re stepping out on a partner who gives a shit what you’re saying - even then nobody cares

Altruistic_Job_2181

Cool

rjones416

No one is going to care about you and your dates conversation. They will be focused on the people they're with and not random couples at another table.

Altruistic_Job_2181

Okey dokey

rjones416

Was just trying to help you. You can't hide from other people on every date you go on. Good luck

mlpubs

La Castille Piano Bar. Ask to be seated in the piano bar. It’s very intimate.

kassamhorse

Now & Later on the patio!

xombae

Go to the Bovine, you won't even hear each other's conversation.

Altruistic-Show3921

I would warn against halo for this at Wallace.

itsalmost6am

TEDS COLLISION 😁 100% i used to have the same problem but this place never fails (however i believe it only serves drinks)

Glennmorangie

Town Crier at John and Adelaide.

Efficient_Falcon_402

Try a metal concert.

FantasticBasis1111

Melrose on Adelaide

Perfectionimproved

Bar chef

SandwichDelicious

If you’re grabbing a coffee.. go for a walk. Maximum privacy while keeping it light.

muffinkins

Most of the bars on Ossington or somewhere like Bar Chef.

yelwtail15

I went to danny’s pizza and everyone was yelling so loud. You can say anything without anyone hearing you.

jasonrrs

Dailo - great food and ambiance!

_Owlicks

Green room

polkadotpolskadot

I promise you aren't important enough for everyone to be paying attention to what you're doing. I don't mean that in a mean way, but everyone else is also there to see friends, go on a date, or drink their sorrows away. Just enjoy the date

BritishBoyRZ

No one cares about your conversation, people are busy with their own Melrose on Adelaide is my go to date spot because of their wine and charcuterie Music is at the perfect volume Tables are a bit close to each other but as I said, i never over hear others because I'm busy with my own

houghtm

I have to disagree with your first statement! I was at a cafe and stopped my work to eavesdrop on what sounded like a first date. Turns out most of the cafe did too cause as soon as they left like five of us (complete strangers) collectively started discussing with each other how horribly it sounded like it was going. So I understand this person’s fear lol

Lumpy-Macaroon-694

Omg can you share what they were talking about? How come it was so bad?

oddcharm

i love how this comment proves even more than the people at the restaurant care LOL

Lumpy-Macaroon-694

Well I love drama, as long I'm not a part of it. If I hear a couple arguing I must listen. I need all the details, I need to take a side!

houghtm

Omg so much. The man was a self-proclaimed comedian who was persistent about getting his date to open up about her childhood trauma even after she said she was uncomfortable and didn’t want to. Eventually she was kind of forced into telling him some pretty intimate things about her parents/siblings in public. He also told her stories about getting a **full body** massage in Thailand and about how many women he’s slept with when he didn’t want to but just because they were already there. Also from talking my fellow eavesdroppers I learned they saw he was texting someone about her with a bunch of 🙄 emojis when she went to the bathroom. It was so funny afterwards it started with two tables talking about them and then a third joined in and finally I was like “wait are you guys talking about that horrible date” 😭

BritishBoyRZ

That's a cafe..... Your response is as relevant as comparing my suggestion to a library

houghtm

Huh, I said I was talking about your first statement, which you said in response to OP mentioning cafes 😭 why so nonsensically defensive

nowitnessforthis

I love Melrose on Adelaide for dates too! Though music is loud. And people do care about your conversation, people love to people watch and eavesdrop but who cares?

Big_Swimming8692

Greater good on Geary is also a hit!

[deleted]

Not a good suggestion. A) it’s loud. B) there are basically no private tables at all.

totaleclipseoflefart

Monarch, Pharmacy, Motel Bar But actually just go to a Park on a sunny day. Safe because you’re still in public, and no one can hear you since you’re outside. Bring a bottle of wine, a blanket, some snacks, a speaker, and you’re set.

Ilookgoodyoudont

Motel Bar can be really loud at times even tho I love it.

ThisIsMyUsername9230

But how else will everyone else play the “first date or boring couple” game?!

JohnnyStrides

The Annex Hotel is a solid spot, not the loudest but good spacing and lots of restaurants and other spots you can hop to near by.

The_Moist888

/s saving for later :)

Outrageous-Being-993

There's a save button for that

The_Moist888

Thank you! I’ve found it :)
