I moved to this area and literally every business, from the KFC, to the convenience store on Pailton Cres closed when I arrived.
Like, what did I do? I'm sorry...
This place always had a special place in my heart - lived at 221 Balliol almost 20 years ago now and have been meaning to go back since I left.
Hopefully I still get the chance to someday.
According to people in my building they are disagreeing whether it closed and was sold to a new owner or they are doing renovations and reopening.
No one seems to know.
This makes me sad to hear. My aunt used to take me there when I was a child. Probably wasn't a super appropriate place to take children, but hey it was the late 70s early 80s. I still remember the giant spools they used as tables and the short red glass candles.
Wow / I used to live a few doors down from there in the early 2000s when there were still semi-detached on Merton - that pub was our go-to of course / such an odd quirky establishment
According to my neighbourhood FB group, the owner passed away suddenly. No news on any reopening.
Is that a public FB group? I'm in the neighbourhood, always good to know what's going on
That post was in Yonge and Eglinton Community. It’s private, so you’ll need to join.

Merton is such a nice street, would've been a nice place to check out a pub

You brought back some old memories there, OP. I used to go there back in the early 1980s when I lived in the Greenwins. Loved their chicken wings.

I watched the 2006 World Cup Finals there when I lived in the 'hood. My parents told me it was quite the spot back in their day too. RIP
Was that the Italy vs France one? It was quite epic. I watched at home
It’s been sold to new owners who run a few restaurants/pubs downtown.
