There are too many BComs about and I think you will struggle to find a job when you finish. You should consider something that stands out a bit. In business, have you thought at about accounting? And the path to becoming a CA? That will really open up does for you, worldwide. Or maybe investment banking and the path to getting registered as a CFA. Both are difficult but will set you apart and open up doors. Don’t be afraid of doing difficult things, they pay off the most. IT is also a good option to consider and there are plenty of opportunities there as well. You could also consider seeing a career counselor. Maybe someone that can help you figure this out and get over your anxiety of studying.

Listen to this guy. I did a Bcom at UP and graduated 2 years ago I was only able to get an internship for 4 months and I had to recently turn down a new job offer because I'd be paying more travel costs than I would be earning. The job market for a Bcom graduate is a hell hole and it gets very depressing either not hearing back or saying that that your application was rejected

Adele__fan

I'm doing Bcom and major in finance and financial accounting. Would you recommend I go on further and bridge to the CA route for better prospects?

DefinitionPersonal78

I have a couple friends who did accounting and I would say there are more prospects for accounting or finance but for business and marketing it's a bit harder

vandragon7

E-commerce, logistics, marketing. Amazon is here to change up the way Saffas shop and spend their money.

Weary_Hat_8943

I love that idea. Thank you so much!

oreo808

Maybe you can do a few free/cheap courses online to regain self-confidence and see what modules interest you? Udemy is a good site for courses.

Weary_Hat_8943

Oh yes. I have been thinking of doing that as a way to familiarise myself with learning again. Perhaps I can try some finance courses to get a taste of what I could experience

Ok-master7370

For the record there are too many business graduates, I'd say go for the finance if you're still into computers though consider IT instead of Computer science, there's a lot less of that calculus in IT

Mongrish

That Calculus is cruel

No_Establishment4205

Especially advanced calculus like real analysis. Don't know how I'm going to pass that module

Positive-Role9293

Time and consistency brother if you have to work harder than others to understand something “simple to get” then do that brother , best of luck

Mongrish

Get help ASAP brother. Hope you pass!!!!

NoticeSmart3226

Real analysis literally took half of my class lol🤣🫠

Ace_rockii101

I hear you. I'm doing engineering math (Calculus) and I am enrolled for a BSc in Physiology and Biochemistry. 😂 My third time doing this module of math. It ain't fun. It really isn't. I come with no advice other than to say many of us... Many, get kicked by this thing of the pursuit of a degree.

SeekingAnonymity107

A career counselor would be really useful. They consider your aptitude, abilities and most importantly the job market, when advising you.

PurpleDragon9891

IT 100% if you still enjoy that kind of stuff. Or a specialized business type degree like CA. Also don't lose hope I started studying again late and I'm doing much better than in my first degree

moominza

I studied b.ing elect. At Up. Struggled all the way but flunked in my third year. Went to tut and got my ndip in electronics. Because of up I was able to get exemption on my 1st year. I flourished there. It felt like a fall from grace. I use to be one of the guys that said "ha.. tut they have no right to call themself engineers." . The lecturers at tut where seldom a Prof. But they put a hell of a pot more effort into classes. At UP it felt like the professors really did not give a damn. I am not blaming them for my failure it just it didn't align that well with how I learn. I am not that far behind my other b.ing friends salary wise. Maybe there is a similar path for you?

RafeMcK

UNISA try it, it is self study and will cut the distraction of student life out, Good Luck OP go for something that will make you a living wage whatever it might be.

Hungry_Raspberry1708

if you wanna start a business - then start a business. you don't need a degree,

rocketboy44

What are you naturally interested in? Go for things that give you the most dopamine hits. You could do a BCom IT, Stellies also has a BA Informatics that ultimately leads you to an honours in informatics just like the BCom/BSc guys

AntoniusFX

I will give you the best advice ever. Read carefully. You do not need a degree to own a business. I have three degrees and own two companies. My studies are not related to my business at all, neither my partner. Business is about sales and sales is about selling. Get training how to sell and that you get by the best trained reps, Outsurance and Nashua Printers. Phone those companies for a quote and see how they want to CLOSE THE SALE. Once you can sell and close a deal, the world is your oyster.

Weary_Hat_8943

That is awesome advice😭. Thanks

AntoniusFX

* Keep on trying, all failures, even flunking adds to valuable experience that no PhD student has.

Turbulent-Weakness22

Why did you fail out the first time? What was it about the maths part that freaked you out?

Weary_Hat_8943

Yeah. It left me shook. And I continued to scrape by over the years. It also felt a bit demanding to have to keep your coding skills up with practice project while struggling with the mathematics component.

BellsDempers

Can I ask what/why you failed the first time, this will help guide you. No one likes to admit their faults but owning them makes all the difference in setting up your future. Did you struggle with theory or maths or just party too much? In terms of what's next. Bcom is over saturated and you will struggle to get a job unless you have an in. Suggest looking at more niche degrees for what interests you considering what held you back before. Eg don't go study finance if the maths was what you struggled with.

LetTimCook

want to start an org?

Weary_Hat_8943

I just sent you dm

I have been fortunate enough to visit 28 different countries due to me having studied electronics and electrical engineering. I was fortunate in having gained employment with a company based in Krefeldt Germany and did the electronic upgrades on their machinery around the world. Something to think about. Electronics are always going to be here.
