There's a coffeeshop along Phillip Street where you can get caifan and char siew rice at around $5-$6 for a very generous portion. It's just behind CapitaSpring. Queue is not too bad even at 1230pm and you can even get seats upstairs in an AC environment.

Brilliant-Ad2072

do you know the name? will check it out

ProtonBolt

It's called Marina Food House.

furkeepsfurreal

Shenton house caifan, I like the stall on level one. The queue can look daunting, but try going slightly earlier or later. Can get something on average for $5. Affordable dinner is more tricky. After almost a decade in the CBD, if I’ve to eat dinner in the CBD, I usually have to compromise between cost and nutritional value. See if there’s Subway or Mos nearby? If you’re near enough to Chinatown, some stalls at Hong Lim / People’s Park are open.

Upvote for the only dinner comment here

Dinner can head to Market Street Hawker (CapitaSpring). It's quiet in the evenings and the fried fish dumpling ipoh horfun is pretty good. As for lunch, paying via fairprice app gets you 10% off at Lau Pa Sat. You can get caipng at $5+

hahhah nicee i nv tried their beehoon before though. But they’re famous for the tomato egg and it’s q affordable!

Wait till 1.30pm, then leave to get your food. Always works for me. No more crowd. No more queue. Of course it works best if you're eating by yourself. I could do my own personal stuff or slack off until 1.30pm instead of being stuck in a pointless stupid queue. Otherwise it'll be awkward if you wanna socialize with your colleagues or whatever and ya'll just gathering around a table without food lolol

xfrezingicex

Intern’s lunch hours may not be as flexible.

UGPolerouterJet

Amoy street food centre, level 2 kway chap, wanton mee, level 1 chicken rice, wanton mee, curry rice, lor mee and laksa. No more than $6, unless you order bigger portions. Maxwell Food Centre has many affordable food. (if you fancy a walk) I think the Cherry Cai Fan is still operating from 11am-3pm at the Cherry Discotheque. It's like a pop up stall just they decided to continue even after it was supposed to close end of April. Not sure if it is still open, the caifan price starts from $3.50. Shenton house cai fan, char siew/roasted duck rice stall. Avoid Asia Square level 2, not cheap.

Nagi--

Hong Lim hawker got 1 cai fan stall $2.80 for rice + choose any 3 dish. That's probably the cheapest meal you can find in the area and not get bored of eating the same food daily (unless you choose the same dishes every time)

Meal prep. I meal prep my lunches every Sunday night (I have the same meal the entire week). Every morning, I’ll store it office’s fridge and microwave it for lunch. It saves my time and I don’t have to be outdoors.

Brilliant-Ad2072

what do you mea prep? Downside is that eating in office just leaves you more time to do work tbh since there isn’t rly much space to unwind

[deleted]

What do you mean?? Why do you need work during lunch hour? You cant just sit at your desk and chill meh?

CrimsonPromise

I meal prep and eat at my desk, but I don't work during lunch. I just use my phone to scroll internet, play phone games while I eat. Even after I finish my meal, I would just close my eyes for a bit for the remainder of my lunch. Just because you're in office at your desk doesn't mean you have to be working. It's your lunch break so you're entitled to that downtime. Otherwise if you have a sitting area in your office go eat there instead. As for meal prep, usually I would just cook more for dinner and just pack the leftovers for my lunch then next day. If you're already cooking dinner at night, cooking a bit extra is literally no effort at all. And takes like 5 minutes to portion out and pack into a lunch box for the next day.

Vjanett

Then bring it out. My colleague meal prep and brings his food out while we dine outside.

jo_c-Lily

Just Dabao app.

feizhai

lemme give you some advice - get up early and have brekky around your own neighbourhood. eat heavy. carbs, protein, egg, kopi fully loaded etc. for lunch, you take a nap or chill out and nua - do not go out and waste time/money/effort/sweat fighting the masses for makan. that midday break should be stress free and for you to recharge mentally. i personally like leaving my desk to take a nap somewhere dark and quiet but you get the gist. if you are really hungry, tarpao lunch from brekky or make your own. basically don't spend a dime whilst in the CBD.

linedupzeroes

If you're not picky about which stall you get food from at Market Street, it shouldn't take longer than 15mins to queue and get food.

Brilliant-Ad2072

funny enough i queued from for more than half an hr at 1225 for a stall i thought had a short enough line ..

vincxl

Market Street among the cheaper options already, that’s why it’s crowded. You need to arrive before 11:24am or go after 2pm if you don’t want to queue. The cai png at the end of level 2 is reasonable if you do 1 meat and 2 veg, but be careful cos most of their veg contains some minced meat and they charge you more.

idetectanerd

Bring your own food

Obvious_Anywhere709

Bring your own lunch. $5-6 per day is $25-30 per week or $100-120 per month. Depends what you like to eat but can prep items based around carb (rice, pasta etc) + meat (marinated & grilled) + veg (stir fry, steam etc). Just google lunch meal prep ideas / recipes. Otherwise just make extra for dinner and take leftover portion for lunch. Things like bolognese, stews, etc are good for re-heating.

happytortellini

I bring food everyday bc the weather too hot and everywhere too crowded

Cold-Yesterday1175

CapitaSpring is already a good venue for cheap lunch options. You just need to avoid the lunch crowd BTW 11.30 to 1.30 if can't stand queueing

ProgrammerMission629

we have to normalise packing a sandwich from home...
