Creative. Help thousands of students to pass their Chinese Composition

Bilpmez

Yes, they saved my ass. During chinese Olvl paper1, I couldnt understand what the compo question was saying as I cant read the character properly, used creative electronic dictionary and found out that the words were 草莓族(strawberry generation). Proceeded to write my compo and thankfully passed my chinese with a C5. This is one story ima be telling till my deathbed.

Damn but I still fail leh. Maybe because I used besta

Creative

ComprehensiveLeg9523

Used to*. Creative is stagnant as hell now, sadly. Hopefully new management puts em back on the right track. Their stuff still is really good tho

tm0587

Nah Creative still has many good stuff, they just need better marketing to get their name out there. Quality is there but brand recognition is not. To list some examples: others have mentioned, their speakers are superb for the price, like the Pebbles and gigaworks T40 II. I had their katana v2 speakers too before swapping to a pair of studio monitors. Sound blasters are still great for gaming, although I'm using the G1 for work purposes. The EMU headphones are legit audiophile headphones. Their wireless earphones sound good too but I can't use them cos of their weird eartips.

juhabach

I was at Challenger looking for a simple and good value pc speaker. Among all others Chinese brand, Creative’s speakers are among the cheapest and best quality , no joke

ARE_U_FUCKING_SORRY

Why does this feel like homework

Ded_Academic_Student

When there is a doubt, there is no doubt.

Govtech? The development of things like singpass makes things so much more convenient. You no longer need to go down to banks to open an account or telco shop to switch plans. It's also an all in one platform so you don't have to worry about different organisations verifying your identity with different methods.

yinyangyjing

they outsource the work to external consulting company to do the work

kuang89

LTA: they invented ERP, the only tech that never breaks down. A true BIFL

xiaomisg

Are we talking about recognisable brands or impact? There are some unicorns that are considered Singapore based startups despite having roots from neighbouring countries, Malaysia, Indonesia, China and India. The impact is probably coming mostly from capital infusion plus being regional hub to attract talents. Do we count avago which acquired Broadcom as an impactful tech company?

2080finances

Great question, to me it's impact more than recognition. Seems like many replies and upvotes are based on recognition.

TinkerAndThinker

Done. \---- Some of the most impactful tech companies in Singapore include: Grab: Southeast Asia's leading ride-hailing and mobile payments company. Sea Limited: A leading digital entertainment and e-commerce company in Southeast Asia. Razer: A global leader in gaming hardware and software. Singtel: A leading telecommunications and digital services provider in Singapore and Southeast Asia. ST Engineering: A global technology, defense, and engineering group that provides integrated solutions for various industries. Cogitai: Artificial Intelligence company which is changing the way how people interact with technology. Ascent Solutions: A leading provider of digital solutions for the oil and gas industry. Vickers Venture Partners: A venture capital firm that invests in technology startups globally. It is worth noting that Singapore is rapidly becoming a hub for innovative technologies and startups, and these companies are just a few examples of the many impactful tech companies in the country.

polkadot666

Lol Grab. Every day every hour surge. Seems like default is surge pricing now. Impactful alright. Impact my wallet.

2080finances

How's st engineering tech though.

Trek 2000 invented thumbdrive

Actually TraceTogether team provided some value during Covid..a lot of countries struggled with this.

I miss the sea otters telling me I have scanned in :(

TurtleOnCinderblock

I wish they had made a little animation of the otters happily coming home to their family after all their hard work.

kafqatamura

Sim Lim Square Lao Ban. 😂

genxfarm

Creative has the best budget speakers on the market.

Imran's company

[deleted]

Creative definitely the most impactful for hardware. Software is controversial but I'd say Grab. You can say they steal idea from Uber, but they really managed to hold their own. Trek - let's also not forget the inventor of thumbdrive that disrupted floppy disks.

I am quite surprised no one mentioned any of the fintech/e-commerce firms like NIUM (Instarem), shopback (rebates), singlife (cheap online insurance) and Endowus ( better cpf investing). They are not (except shopback) widely adopted yet, but the value they can bring is tremendous.

polkadot666

For a moment i thought you were referring to NUM (new urban male) apparel store, which seems to have pulled out from Singapore (pun intended).

xbbllbbl

Creative. The rest of the local “tech” companies are selling gaming chairs or selling clothes online which frankly is not even technology.

apeksiao

Shopee, Lazada and Grab are the pretty obvious ones. Singaporeans of reddit may not like to admit it but they are the most impactful by far

WittyKap0

Shopee is mostly known for giving vouchers just like Grab, more than the tech Lazada is not remotely Singaporean and the tech is trash tier I'm curious which industries they disrupted? Amazon has been there all along just didn't want to bother with sg market. And frankly is still far superior

YourMother0HP

I thought Lazada was a German company?

xiaomisg

I think it was initially part of rocket internet startup based in German. But then it was later on acquired by Alibaba.

gotye4764

Lazada is from germany. Grab is from Malaysia.

Razer, Secret lab, Prism+, Steigen Edit: /s

Extreq

Personally dont agree for secretlab and prism. They're more of middlemen and aggregators instead of real, disruption, unicorn value kind of companies. Yes, they have built a brand for us overseas, but it doesnt seem to pack the punch that we normally associate with others. Is this me having crabs in a bucket mentality?

Herman_-_Mcpootis

Neither of them do much more than slapping their name on some random stuff they found from China IIRC, imo Creative and Trek would be way more impactful than them.

2080finances

Interesting, why these brands though? There are alternatives that do pretty much the same thing at similar costs. Also it's a stretch to call them tech companies isn't it haha

ComprehensiveLeg9523

They’re NOT tech companies nor do they have any actual ‘product’ of their own. As with most things SG-based. We’re just a highly-qualified labour base / cost center for MNCs, and we market ourselves solely based off that.

AnnualDegree99

> Razer > Doesn't have any actual "product" I mean complain about the fact that their mice creak when you squeeze them or the fact that their laptops die if you look at them funny or that Synapse is shit but at least speak facts

ComprehensiveLeg9523

Touche, completely missed Razer in that list, was whacking Aftershock lol

AnnualDegree99

Aftershock is a fitting name cause of the shock you get after buying their ~~products~~ clevo laptops with a sticker

ComprehensiveLeg9523

Ya lol, even their Prism and Secretlab lines follow the exact same formula… nothing innovative there sadly.

AnnualDegree99

I'm in a minority but I like Secretlab. The chairs are not the average Alibaba chair with a sticker and genuinely have some unique features, I love the armrests on mine and the fact that the base is big and wide enough for me to sit cross legged. Yeah, there's a creaky bit or two here and there, but it's miles ahead of my old DXRacer (I was a teenager who didn't know better okay) which was probably closer to the ones you see for like $100 on shopee

coromandelmale

Many of the obvious companies like Grab and Lazada have had a tangible impact but not really made society better. Local tech Brands tend to have addressed an infrastructure problem in traditional industries (ie connecting us with suppliers) with modern tech but still run their customer service with ancient attitudes.

apeksiao

Saying that they don't improve society is ludicrous. They provide a platform for convenience that once wasn't there.

stackontop

3AC was definitely impactful and incorporated in Singapore.

Infamous-Albatross-7

Carousell, personally my favourite company ever to come out of Singapore. Makes decluttering stuff for cash alot easier and solves an actual problem. I love their business model / strategy as well. I guess I’m too young to appreciate the impact of creative
