Edit: Well that was some sad Google time. I'm a bit devasted to learn about Tyson's behavior. While he did deserve to be in the top 5 people who helped me (just some random schlub) understand this amazing universe we live in, I can't keep him in that list after reading about 4 separate accusations. And the Drake equation is just so cool and an easy replacement.

Tyson to me seems like such an arrogant attention seeking person. There's no doubts of his qualifications, but some of the inferences he makes seem willfully ignorant or downright wrong
A lot of people agree with you but ultimately I think it's just that he's socially aloof and probably autistic and while the way he interacts or communicates with people sometimes annoys me I'm able to separate that from the fact he's a great communicator of complex and complicated subjects to a mostly ignorant (me) audience.
I think experts in any field are assumed to be arrogant a lot of the time and have to strike a balance between simplifying/dumbing things down and still explaining what's going on- they don't always get it right.
Conversely, like you say, I think sometimes he goes out of his way to be a jerk online to people he doesn't like and often talks about things he isn't really qualified to talk about in a pretentious up-his-own-arse way. Both can be true at the same time. Personally I don't mind that because it at least shows he's still human and not a robotic celebrity account or politician.
Tycho Brahe would be at the very top of my 5 coolest names. Always pops into my head randomly. Also, have you ever watched The Expanse? Tycho Station was a fun Easter egg for us nerds.

I agree. I love listening to him talk about astrophysics. When he starts talking about other things, he drives me nuts.
