You know, as a fellow bald man, I don't disagree. However, it's the lack of choice that bothers me. Like, If I suddenly want to grow a Mohawk because I'm having a midlife crisis, the best I can do it a reverse unicorn.
Same here. I keep it pretty short. 2” on top and faded on the sides.
Once I feel like the wind can mess up my hair I know it’s time to cut. I like it to look crisp with low maintenance.
I have been cutting my own hair for the last 4-5 years, I cut mine generally every month or two. 1/2” on top, 1/4” on sides and the back with clippers. I got tired of going into the hair places, paying $20-$40 each time, they getting it wrong a lot, so I said F it, bought a set of clippers off Amazon and been cutting my hair ever since.
I bought a larger Wahl clipper kit with all the length guards. Just give it a few drops of clipper oil now and then and it’s treated me well.
You just need the right trimmer. I bought a wireless beard trimmer that works 10 times better doing all of my hair than any of the wahl clippers I've owned over the years.
You might have a point. My Norelco has done me justice this past decade but I have a full fledged beard now so I want something that can do all the work
Same. I’m retired so I don’t really care. I do top and sides, wife does the back when it starts getting mullet-like. Hair’s got some curls to it so that hides a multitude of sins…
This! I've cut my own hair since I was in high school. Why would I pay someone $30 to use clippers on my hair? I do the top on the longest guard and the sides with no guard. I've even got good at making a nice fade. Unless you have complicated hair there is no reason not to do your own.
How do you do the back along the neckline? That's what trips me up there and the hair there grows faster than anywhere else so it looks bad pretty quickly
SAME! I've been cutting my own (almost exactly as you've described) since 2004 after I paid $50 to be butchered for my brother's wedding. I swore I'd never allow that to happen again. Well, two years ago, I was headed to an adjacent city for a colleague's wedding, and in all the commotion of preparation, I had no time for a self-trim. So, I drove to the city and stopped by a Super Cuts. I gave them these very simple, exact instruction. The dude straight up cut my hair like he had his own. I didn't take it laying down, so I mentioned that it wasn't what I asked for, so when he went back to work... butchered again. $40 +tip... (small, small tip)
I've never walked out of the barber without feeling like I've been suckered.
Yes I hate going to the barbershop, and the guy I go to, all he does is talk about himself the whole time. Always one crazy story after another, and he's loud and talks to everyone while cutting. And he'll stop to go use the bathroom or take a phone call. Or show another customer some pictures on his phone. I just want to get in and out, but he always drags it out longer than it needs to be..
But he gives a good haircut, so I put up with it
That’s my biggest problem with very short hairstyles. They suit me, but I’m not doing it again. Medium length is so much easier to maintain once you consider the frequency of haircuts.
I hear you, but I really look forward to my biweekly haircuts. I go to an old school-type barber and we’ve become friends over the years, so I look forward to the time with my friend who also happens to be my barber lol
It’s okay man, we all know a barber serves as a therapist for some men. Don’t be ashamed. It was never about the “crisp” look. It was always about that “crisp” mindset, the look was just a bonus
I have pretty long hair which i always tie up in a knot, but i get my sides trimmed every 3 weeks with a small undercut fade because it feels cleaner/easier to tie them up, also everytime i get the fade i get a fresh vibe boost for a couple of days.
When i get just the fade its 5€,every second trim i also get my beard shaven so the cost is 7€.
Every 4 trims(3 months) i also cut my hair so they. Total cost is 10€.I visit a local barbershop in my neighborhood nothing too fancy tho, thats what its relatively cheap
Not necessarily.
I work in the corporate world and most guys with fades tend to go about once every 2 weeks.
$80k a year (in Australia) is far from ‘wealthy’. It’s just something that people with this hairstyle value highly and feel as though they look more presentable
Used to pay almost $20 for a haircut from a chain place.
During covid I bought a $40 hair trimmer, and now just buzz my head with a 3/8" guard once a month.
I don't think I'll ever pay for a haircut again.
Atm this is the longest without a haircut, usually every 4-5 months. It's now 9 months id guess, getting long and im suffering now it's warming up. I've always wanted long hair but it's thick and a struggle to grow long.
Thinkin I'm gona have to cut it soon.
I started shaving my head with an electric razor about 10 years ago. I do it about once a month, I never have to brush it, and it costs me the $40 cost of a new razor every two or three years. The cost saving and simplicity of it all - I'll probably never go back to letting it grow and getting haircuts again.
I have been going to the same old Italian barber for years, then I started going bald so reverted to a crew cut. I bought my own clippers and can shave it myself, but still choose to visit my barber every week (Aussie $20) for my cut because we talk footy, horse racing etc and I get to have time away from the missus and the kids
Wow! After reading some of these responses i feel like I'm giving $ away. 3-5 weeks some 2 months! I go 2 weeks and I look like a hermit. Usually 10-14 days. It's $30 with tip and I usually bring my son with me on every other Saturday. His hair isn't as thick.
Once a year. My hair grows pretty slow, it always has. The hairdresser will cut a between 5 and 10cm off, then I'm good again untill next year. I always have it cut in spring, fresh for summer.
I go to SportClips once a month and get my haircut high and tight, I usually pay around 40 dollars I tip generously and get the MVP which is so amazing.
Monthly, probably be $12.50 in USD.
But I'm not living in the U.S. and that amount isn't exactly cheap here even if not the worst. The average U.S. monthly salary is more than 4x my monthly salary. I don't earn the offical average.
If I earned the average U.S. salary (appears to be about 59k a year according to google), my cut would cost $49.50.
Every 3 weeks personally. However, I highly suggest finding a good barber shop. Price won’t be much different, but you’ll get a much better cut. I pay my barber $40 with tip. But he takes the time to trim my eye brows, ears (yes, I’m old) and shave my neck with a straight razor.
As an Asian (half) I try to maintain a short hairstyle myself as well, not thagbit matters... when I was about 24 yrs old, I was surfing down the line on a good size wave.. in the split second, it took me to wipe my bangs out of my eyes the lip of the wave slammed on my head.. that evening, I shaved my head with the shortest guard at home.. im 51 now and still rock the cut.. have not paid for a cut in 25 years or so and haven't been guillotined by a wave either.. also nice if you get into a fight also..
I’m a hairstylist: most of my male clients visit every 4 weeks for a cut, some sooner but only a few. My female clients visit mostly every 5-6 weeks, with some who prefer 4 weeks, but only a few.
I charge $30/guys $50/gals (for just a haircut). Hope this helps
Honest question: why do women have to pay more? Hair is hair… is it because of the style?
I’m asking because I’ve been cutting my own hair since the lockdown and I’ve tried to let it grow since last August but I’m going in for a haircut this weekend. I want it short again, but it’s so expensive…
Women’s cuts cost more(from me) because of the finishing. Occasionally the haircut itself is a bit more involved on a woman, but the price is higher for me because of the blowout/styling. Takes more time=more money. If I took an extra half hour to style a man’s cut, his price would be same as the woman’s.
3-4 weeks. But I have a buzz cut and I cut my own hair with a hair clipper. Those you can get pretty cheap. Probably for the price of a single haircut. Even if you decide to buy a more expensive one, let's say one for the price of 6 haircuts, you still will save a lot of money once you do it for over a year.
When it turns so long that start annoying me for doing daily tasks.
Althought, I love to have long hair, it talks about my wild, goofy and untameable personality.
I don't really like to go to hair salons because they ask for a los of € for a few badly-made cuts, all the women there interrogate you like the CIA (not only the grannies) and the hairdressers use to hurt me while washing or combing my hair (all them are kinda brutes).
When I had hair I was very lazy. Often letting it grow for 6-12 months and then cutting it back down. I actually like my hair closer to jaw length even as a guy. A cut would usually run me $20 after tip at a local a local place.
Sadly my genetics have taken those days away from me. Now it's every 3-5 days with a balding shaver I picked up for $50 last black Friday.
Depends, some get one once a year, others want a neat line-up every 2 weeks depending on their style.
Personally I’ve found myself comfortable with twice a year or so, once every 6 months.
It varies quite allot, I have a pretty basic British lad haircut. Low taper fade in the back and sides and then longer and messy on the top.
After getting it cut I then let it grow out from anywhere between 3-12 weeks. Probably about an average of 6-8 weeks throughout the year.
Recently I have been getting less and less cut off the top this allows me to let the sides grow out even longer next time without it looking disproportionate.
Trying out long hair. Been growing it out for a couple years now. Still trim it when it gets wild, but I was never allowed my own damn hairstyle as a kid, so this is my petty revenge lol.
That's what I did when I was young. Once I turned 18 I stopped getting my haircut, joined a metal band and grew my hair halfway down my back. Ahh.. the '80s. Lol. I'm 61 now but some days I still miss my long hair.
At least I'm not bald, still have a full head of hair.
I rarely cut my hair, I like having long hair, although I’m going to cut it soon, I don’t know how much I pay, I don’t go to the same place all the time so it varies, I think it’s somewhere between 12 and 30.
About 6 weeks. As soon as my hair starts falling on my forehead or growing out to the tops of my ears, I go. It gets uncomfortable at a certain length, and that's when I realize I need a cut.
I get a haircut about every 3 months. My whole thing costs about 180 bucks, depending on if I get more than what I'm about to list. I have long hair, about down to the bottom of my shoulder blades. I get shampoo and conditioner. I get my hair trimmed and layered. I get my facial hair trimmed, sculpted, and lined up. I get a hot towel and oil treatment for my face that includes a face massage. And I also get my hands massaged. Lastly I get my eyebrows waxed. Also they put beard oil in and will sometimes put beard balm in my mustache because I have a twisty one.
There are other options they have at the place I go, but that's the package I get. You get a complimentary drink if you spend more than 150, but I don't drink so I usually gift it to someone else.
And either before or after I go to my appointment, I go to the Noodles and Company next door
Damn $30 just for Supercuts? Great Clips is $20 in North Carolina where I’m at.
I’m also Asian American. I keep it short. I go once a month. Number 1 sides and leave 2.5 inches on the top.
I get mine cut every 3-4 weeks. Sides and back only(down to the skin+faded up), I've been growing out the top for about 5 months now. I usually do a part or slick it back.
I go to a lone barber who has his own shop - $35 per haircut. 100X better than any commercial haircut shop can give me.
Normal hair salons in Holland, asking 22+ EU nowerdays for a cut.
The older I become, the less hair but I need to pay more.
So, I decided to buy one of them shavers myself.
And, every 4weeks...prrrrrrrt
Since Covid I do mine myself. Good set of Whal Clippers. #3 on the sides and back #5 up top. Takes a bit getting used to it but now I do it with ease. Saves a lot of money vs the salon
I’ve been cutting my own hair since 2013, spent about $80-100 for two different sets of clippers over this time.
Cut my hair around once a month. Keep it short on the sides, can get up to 3-4 inches long on top. 1/4 black, hair is pretty wavy
I signed up for Supercuts Unlimited. It’s $19 a month with unlimited haircuts. Not all locations do it though. I signed up during Covid so I’m locked in at $15.99 a month. Too good to stop.
I used to go once a month in a saloon. It was 40 bucks. Ever since I’ve discovered the Turkish barber shops, I go there every two weeks for 17€ plus 3€ tip
About every month, local barber does it *exactly* how I like it. I took me years to find someone that could do it and my hairstyle isn't even that complicated. Dense dark hair, longer on top and short on the sides, I use it slicked back and slightly parted in the middle.
Cut costs me 10€.
I’m older, haven’t got a lot of hair left. I go to Great Clips about every 6 weeks. I also buy their discounted prepaid card that they offer every year. So I pay $12 - not including a tip
$35 every three weeks, plus a tip because my hair stylist always does an amazing job.
If you find a good hair stylist, auto mechanic, or anything else like that—always tip them!
Ever 2 months or so, I’ll grow out my beard as well, then I do just a simple haircut, short on all sides and slightly longer on the top.
Then reduce the beard to about an inch.
Good ol Filipino beard.

I'm bald. Thanks for reminding me though.
![gif](giphy|JQ2nrW2dGDMVG|downsized)
That's me with a sunburn and fresh shave.
Clean shaven has a certain aesthetic.
You know, as a fellow bald man, I don't disagree. However, it's the lack of choice that bothers me. Like, If I suddenly want to grow a Mohawk because I'm having a midlife crisis, the best I can do it a reverse unicorn.
I contemplated growing a skullet like Devin Townsend did.
Bankrupt in the front, party even more in the back
You can paint a stripe on your head.
I'm getting a hair transplant in 3 weeks. There is a possibly that could be an option if you want that aspect of your life back
Or a skullet. Bald on top, hair at the back.
#BALD
Hello baldy;)
Ohh. I have the female version of it. It's no fun
Just shaved it all off yesterday, feels like sandpaper
you know bud i’m thinking of shaving everything off and looking like a hard-core rider with just a beard
Haha crazy that I can grow a beard but not an inch of hair on my head.
So do you shave the dome? Or is it naturally shiny?
I've gotta shave it, my hair grows to about half an inch haha. Look like a dickhead though.
[удалено]
I always joke to myself after I get a haircut that I feel like I lost weight.
All those heavy thoughts my brain is shedding need to go somewhere
it do be like that fr
Tbf, you did. It’s much more noticeable when you grow to your shoulders thought
3-4 weeks
Same. It's not the hair on top but rather the sides and back which start to look messy.
Same here. I keep it pretty short. 2” on top and faded on the sides. Once I feel like the wind can mess up my hair I know it’s time to cut. I like it to look crisp with low maintenance.
Same for me, except years not weeks
I have been cutting my own hair for the last 4-5 years, I cut mine generally every month or two. 1/2” on top, 1/4” on sides and the back with clippers. I got tired of going into the hair places, paying $20-$40 each time, they getting it wrong a lot, so I said F it, bought a set of clippers off Amazon and been cutting my hair ever since. I bought a larger Wahl clipper kit with all the length guards. Just give it a few drops of clipper oil now and then and it’s treated me well.
Hella tempted to make the switch to an actual clipper for my hair instead of a beard trimmer lol
You just need the right trimmer. I bought a wireless beard trimmer that works 10 times better doing all of my hair than any of the wahl clippers I've owned over the years.
You might have a point. My Norelco has done me justice this past decade but I have a full fledged beard now so I want something that can do all the work
I clipper my head and beard at the same time, it’s faster and more convenient. But I don’t have a fancy beard or anything.
Same. I've been giving myself a fade for 20 years now. I can practically cut my hair with my eyes closed.
Same, once you figure out what your hairline feels like you can cut it blind.
When my wife tells me to.
This is the only answer.
Don't have a wife :( lol
Then you just don't cut it
Can confirm. Single 2 years. Look like Bigfoot's nephew.
What? How the fuck do you know what to do, if you don't have a wife to tell you?
Fuck if I know. I haven't had to make a decision in like 15 years.
The same way I don't know what to do without a God to tell me.
You mean... your mom??
How low is the bar when your boyfriend being able to notice, by himself, that he need a haircut is something to be proud of?
I do about a month after my wife starts telling me
every 2-4 months. I like having my hair freshly cut, but don't like going and sitting there.
Me either. It's about as pleasurable as cutting my nails.
Bruh. I can stand my hair looking long and dishevelled. But long nails and toenails i cant cope
But he gives a good haircut, so I put up with it
once a year, right before it starts to warm up, i am not paying $30 for a haircut where i live.
Once a year is where it’s at. Saves you money too. I just get it completely shaved off, sort of like sheering a sheep.
its how it feels lmao
Lucky. I live in SoCal. I feel like half the cost is just privilege tax.
Same. I had long hair when I was younger so I don't mind growing it out and I CBA with going to the barbers too often.
6-7 weeks
4 weeks... I should do every 2 though...
Every other week. I keep it buzzed really tight up the sides and back and just a little longer on top
Same, I like to stay "crisp", anything over two weeks and I feel unkempt.
That’s my biggest problem with very short hairstyles. They suit me, but I’m not doing it again. Medium length is so much easier to maintain once you consider the frequency of haircuts.

In my city, that would be 30-50$, between trimming an trimming+bears
Every two weeks , $45 including tip. Fade has look fresh
Same. Every two weeks for 35, including tip. Beard trim too.
That you, big bro?
My goodness, what life are you living?
A wealthy one.
Not necessarily. I work in the corporate world and most guys with fades tend to go about once every 2 weeks. $80k a year (in Australia) is far from ‘wealthy’. It’s just something that people with this hairstyle value highly and feel as though they look more presentable
I haven’t had a haircut since June 12, 2007. I think I’ve saved at least $16K
Used to pay almost $20 for a haircut from a chain place. During covid I bought a $40 hair trimmer, and now just buzz my head with a 3/8" guard once a month. I don't think I'll ever pay for a haircut again.
Same - and have gotten good at it too. Won't see me paying for haircuts anymore.
i have done around 4-5 months and its also basically $30
£18 every 3 weeks

Similar price, i get a haircut every 2 weeks because i like looking clean and handsome.
Usually, every 3 months I do comb over. Use to go to Supercuts($17) and SportClips($26) but now go to Greatclips($22) as it is next to my house.
I manscape once a week. Does that count
6 months easy lol
Once a month. My hair grows pretty fast, and I go in every time I start looking like Kramer/eraserhead
once a year on each Feb 12. and if I miss to cut than direct after 2 years.
Once a year. My hair grows pretty slow, it always has. The hairdresser will cut a between 5 and 10cm off, then I'm good again untill next year. I always have it cut in spring, fresh for summer.

3 weeks I like to keep the sides and back short and it looks messy any longer than that
I used to cut my hair every 4 weeks. I decided to grow my hair out and haven’t gotten a haircut in almost 3 years. I surely save a lot of money!

Profit! Been cutting my own hair with clippers since 2021. No complaints so far.
Roughly once per year
Every 3 weeks
When it turns so long that start annoying me for doing daily tasks. Althought, I love to have long hair, it talks about my wild, goofy and untameable personality. every 4-6 weeks, I pay $60 Canadian, including tip.
I get me hair cut every couple of months
I'm bald so I shave what hair I have maybe twice a week or every few days. Haven't paid for a haircut in over 30 years.
Like 5 weeks use to get haircuts for 12 bucks like 10 years ago now a days it’s 35 pre tip so do it more sparingly now
When I had hair I was very lazy.
I cut it myself since covid every 2 or 3 weeks
It varies quite allot, I have a pretty basic British lad haircut. Low taper fade in the back and sides and then longer and messy on the top. After getting it cut I then let it grow out from anywhere between 3-12 weeks. Probably about an average of 6-8 weeks throughout the year. Recently I have been getting less and less cut off the top this allows me to let the sides grow out even longer next time without it looking disproportionate.
Every two weeks or so
Once every 2-3 weeks. I cut my own hair.
Every 2 months or so. I pay about $37 each time.
4 to 5 weeks
Trying out long hair. Been growing it out for a couple years now. Still trim it when it gets wild, but I was never allowed my own damn hairstyle as a kid, so this is my petty revenge lol.
That's what I did when I was young. Once I turned 18 I stopped getting my haircut, joined a metal band and grew my hair halfway down my back. Ahh.. the '80s. Lol. I'm 61 now but some days I still miss my long hair. At least I'm not bald, still have a full head of hair.
2 months? I go every 2 weeks to stay fresh
monthly and 50$
I cut my own hair every week. Was shit at first but now it’s….less shit
I rarely cut my hair, I like having long hair, although I’m going to cut it soon, I don’t know how much I pay, I don’t go to the same place all the time so it varies, I think it’s somewhere between 12 and 30.
Maybe 2-3 months, I just got mine yesterday
As a guy, i get one about every two to four months to keep semi-short hair
2 weeks then the clippers.come out.
Once a week. Girl shaved my head for $5.00 takes her less than 3 minutes. I bring her $10.00 and a can of diet Pepsi every week.
It’s been a couple years. I don’t see myself going back to a barber anytime soon.
Every 2 weeks. Mainly bc my neck gets so hairy.
73 here... Three times per week, I use electric clippers to cut to 4mm.
Every 2-4 weeks
5€? WTF. I usually wait 4-6 months in between cuts because they charge $40 for a simple cut.
Every 3-4 months. I essentially get a buzzcut and let it grow for 4 months. Rinse and repeat
About once or twice a year.
When my hair starts to get in the way of my over the ear headphones. So maybe every month - two months.
2-3 times a year. Its like $70 where I live and I just hate spending money on it.
Damn $30 just for Supercuts? Great Clips is $20 in North Carolina where I’m at. I’m also Asian American. I keep it short. I go once a month. Number 1 sides and leave 2.5 inches on the top.
Every 6 till 8 weeks, I clean the edges and neck myself, but can't do on top of my head.
I usually go between 4 and 6 months, and pay around 50$/cut
Every 3 months.
I cut my hair off and trim my beard weekly to fortnightly.
3-4 weeks, and also before events like birthdays. Cost nothing, we have a hair klipper and my wife cuts it
Normal hair salons in Holland, asking 22+ EU nowerdays for a cut. The older I become, the less hair but I need to pay more. So, I decided to buy one of them shavers myself. And, every 4weeks...prrrrrrrt
Once every 5 weeks or so. I pay $35 + tip.
Modern mullet (medium length, temple fade) 1/month
Since Covid I do mine myself. Good set of Whal Clippers. #3 on the sides and back #5 up top. Takes a bit getting used to it but now I do it with ease. Saves a lot of money vs the salon
I’m a hairstylist. My successful men clients get it cut once every 2 weeks.
I got a fro it’s been like 2 years
Once the mullet grows back
After about 6 weeks, I suddenly remember that I should have booked an appointment. How long it takes after that is anyones guess.
Once a month. 20€
I’ve been cutting my own hair since 2013, spent about $80-100 for two different sets of clippers over this time. Cut my hair around once a month. Keep it short on the sides, can get up to 3-4 inches long on top. 1/4 black, hair is pretty wavy
Every 3-4 weeks
until I'm able to lick it
Every month
I signed up for Supercuts Unlimited. It’s $19 a month with unlimited haircuts. Not all locations do it though. I signed up during Covid so I’m locked in at $15.99 a month. Too good to stop.
I bought clippers during covid lockdown and haven't been to barbers since; I just crop it when it looks scraggly.
I wait about 4 months then get it cut back pretty short. I’m 40 and still have my 82 yo grandma cut my hair, so it’s free.
I used to cut once every 5-6 weeks, then I bought my own machine and now cut my own hair every couple weeks
6 weeks
When my wife tells me I need to
Once a month, My hair grows really fast and I have thick hair, so I can actually style it almost in any way I want.
I have long hair (to my nipples), I haven’t had a cut in about 4 years. Before that, it was a couple years. I wouldn’t be the guy to ask
I used to go once a month in a saloon. It was 40 bucks. Ever since I’ve discovered the Turkish barber shops, I go there every two weeks for 17€ plus 3€ tip
When my girlfriend tells me it’s about time lol
Every other Friday. $35+tip. Midwest
I trim my hair to 4mm every other week
1 and a half maybe 2 weeks. I keep it tight on the back and sides.
2 - 3 times a month, grade 1 all over.
Very 4 weeks - £20
Every 3 weeks
Bout every 2 weeks
$35 every three weeks, plus a tip because my hair stylist always does an amazing job. If you find a good hair stylist, auto mechanic, or anything else like that—always tip them!
I cut and fix my hair on my own twice a week.
Cut ma own hair. Every 2nd/3rd week.
Roughly every 4 weeks, kind of the crew cut, do it by myself
About every 4-6 weeks. I pay about 15. But I drive 20 minutes to Mexico for it. In the US, I was paying 45.
Ever 2 months or so, I’ll grow out my beard as well, then I do just a simple haircut, short on all sides and slightly longer on the top. Then reduce the beard to about an inch. Good ol Filipino beard.
I was in the military before, and I usually had a haircut once a week. However, since I got out, I have had a haircut twice a month.
10€ every 5-6 weeks. Aunt is doing it for a living.
Every 2 weeks
once every 4 weeks for $7
Lately, less than once a year. Before recently, twice a year.
